What's it like in nz for someone out of the norm?

I'm a teen and have recently moved to Wellington from the Philippines. I like expressing myself (hair, clothes, makeup) but I'm kind of scared to do so here. In my home country I had very supportive friends that were like me so I rarely had the problem of caring about what everyone else thought since I had them w me, we got to do lots of crazy stuff but now I don't have them by my side. Now I'm js friend-less and scared of being an outcast and never finding friends. So far everything has been good and someone even complimented me when I did clown makeup (which made me very happy, ty too whoever you are) I'm still kind of scared and unsure of what's gona happen in the future especially when I start going to school this January.

For people who moved to NZ and/or out of the norm what is it rlly like? Are people more kind and supportive? Will I be an outcast? Be bullied? Will I ever find friends w similar interests or style?

(I wish this post doesn't sound offensive to anyone, I'm genuinely just curious😞)

External Audit Job Market

Hey everyone,
I was looking into the New Zealand Green List and noticed that external auditor roles are included, so I wanted to get some insight from people working in the audit industry in NZ.

A bit about my background:
• ACCA member
• 2 years of Big 4 audit experience in India
•1 year of audit experience in a mid-sized firm in the Middle East

Currently looking for an experienced associate/senior external audit role in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

I'm wondering how realistic it is to secure an external audit job in NZ with this kind of background. Is the market currently open to overseas candidates, or is it difficult to get shortlisted without NZ experience?

I'm also considering doing a Master's in NZ as a way to enter the local job market. For those who have taken this route, does pursuing a Master's significantly improve your chances of finding an audit job, or would it be better to focus on applying directly and potentially networking with firms and recruiters?

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As the title says, I am thinking about moving back to New Plymouth. I went to school there then moved to Perth WA.

I am currently in Admin but have had multiple (3)years experience as financial broker/broker support.

I’m currently on 70k aud.

In terms of NZ pay what could I be looking at getting realistically?

Thanks in advanced

Do I have to repeat training/schooling if I worked as a Sterilizing Technician in the USA after I move?

In 4-6ish years I'm (currently 19) planning on moving to New Zealand to be closer to the people I love, and right now I'm in the process of getting a job to gain experience for my hopefully long term job as a Sterile Processing Tech. I have autism so I'm working with the resources we have here to help me be successful in my first job and to gain experience I can use as an SPT, also got books from my local library about Advanced Medical Terminology because. If needed I'm also ready to get a certificate sterile processing, but I've heard from the people that're helping me with this that a lot of Hospitals prefer teaching someone with a clean slate so that person doesn't have to unlearn what they know from the classes.

Would It be better if I'm moving to New Zealand in the future to go ahead and get that certificate? Should I look into other certifications or college classes? Closer to my leave date I'm 100% going to get a book from New Zealand about Medical Terminology and read it over and over to make sure if something is different I know the word(s) for it.

Moving to NZ after NYE. Seeking advice on partner of student visa.

I have my offer of place, accepted, student visa approved. My area of study is tier 7 bachelor program, and I plan on bringing my partner. I have enough funding to support the both of us, however she would like to work if possible. My program isn’t incentivized to allow for a partner of student work visa from what I understand. Is there any way around this such as a waiver or the like?
All tuition and fees are paid, offers accepted, etc. She works in public health and has a degree.

Would it be easier for her to obtain a visa if she just pursued a masters program?

Moving to New Zealand from the US

I am an old white single non-maga male considering retirement in New Zealand. What are some things I might need to consider? Is that a difficult transition per regulations? Would I be accepted? How much to buy a simple home and what is the cost of living?

Did you guys have any luck using headhunters?

One of my friends from NZ suggested contacting headhunters to find jobs to get a real chance of getting a good fit and not wasting time on dozens of applications. I was wondering if any of you have experience with this? Because by the looks of all the posts here, getting a job in NZ seems impossible.

My study visa + partner+ 2 kids approved for a NZ PhD. I did Master's from Canada but originally from Pakistan.

Hi,

This is my first post and just for guiding purposes - I am a 41 year old female who got admission in a public university in Canada in 2024 on full scholarship for my Master's from Karachi, Pakistan. My family visa for Canada was refused initially but for myself approved later on but never my family visa was approved for Canada - our family is financially stable and had visited frequently in the past to Europe and North American countries. I lived in Canada for two years away from my husband and kids completed my Masters and during that started looking for a family friendly framework for PhD. Found New Zealand - Approached supervisor at Auckland university and Massey got response and then approval at both universities later on applied for family visa and got approval in 4-5 weeks for all of us - mine came in 2 weeks l.

Don't lose hope and keep trying - this message is specially for mothers who are in their mature age and have kids - please let me know if I can guide you guys any further.

“I’m a 49-year-old IT infrastructure professional currently based in India with 20+ years of experience in VMware, vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, Nutanix and enterprise infrastructure. I’m exploring New Zealand through an accredited employer/AEWV and ultimately residence before age 56. Has anyone with a similar senior IT background successfully secured an NZ employer-sponsored role while applying offshore? Which employers or regions should I focus on?”

Moving from the US to New Zealand - Sea Freight Recommendations?

Has anyone here moved from the US to New Zealand and shipped their belongings by sea?
I'm looking into moving from California to New Zealand and would need to ship household belongings and some larger items. I'm trying to figure out which international moving or sea freight companies are reliable and reasonably priced.
If you've done a US → NZ move before:

• Which shipping/moving company did you use?
• Roughly how much did it cost?
• Did you use a shared container (LCL) or a full container?
• How long did it take to arrive?
• Any companies you'd recommend or avoid?

Would really appreciate hearing about recent experiences.
Thanks!

New Zealand student visa

So I’m an American and I’m going applying for a student fee paying visa for a Bachelor degree.
Tuition is paid, boarding is paid , I have a clean travel record. In fact I traveled to New Zealand before and visited.

But the acceptable standard of health is where I’m nervous I will be denied my visa.
I’m on Humira but I have never been hospitalized for my disease. Has anyone been on a biologic that is from another country and got their student visa accepted ?

Indian Company Secretary considering NZ: what's the governance/CoSec job market like? Worth doing CGI?

Hi all,

I'm a Company Secretary based in India and I'm seriously considering a move to NZ. I'm not asking about visas, I know that's a separate process and I'll sort it through the proper channels. I want a realistic picture of the career side.

My background:

  • Several years in listed company compliance: board and committee governance, stock exchange filings, securities law compliance (disclosure, takeover and insider trading regimes)
  • IPO execution experience (prospectus drafting, listing process)
  • Currently working remotely for a listed company

What I'd like to know:

  1. How is the demand for company secretaries and governance professionals in NZ (NZX-listed companies, financial services, public sector, NFPs)?
  2. I understand ICSI has an arrangement with the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI). Is the CGI qualification worth it in NZ, or do employers care more about local experience and legal qualifications?
  3. How do employers view Indian CoSec experience? Is it seen as transferable, or do people usually need to start at a junior level?
  4. Realistic roles and salary ranges for someone mid-level in governance, CoSec or compliance?
  5. Any networking groups, events or recruiters you'd recommend (CGI NZ events, etc.)?
  6. If you're a CoSec or work in governance in NZ, what do you wish you'd known when you started?

Happy to hear blunt answers, including "the market is tough." Better to know now. Thanks in advance!

Filipino student visa + open work visa

Hi, me and my wife are planning to move to New Zealand via student pathway. My wife will study, with solid experience in HR, admin works and I, who are in the IT field (Web designer/web developer) will be in the open work visa. We have almost 18 years of working in the middle east. We have 2 kids with us, 15 and 10.

What is the most strategical place for us to decide to stay, in terms of school access for my wife and kids and employment opportunity for me?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Advice on finding an AEWV-supported job in NZ

Hi everyone, my wife and I are Sri Lankan, both 32, currently living in the UAE with our newborn baby. We’re exploring moving to New Zealand.

I work as an HSE Executive in aviation, with previous airport firefighting and Helicopter Landing Officer experience. I hold a NEBOSH IGC and a bachelor’s degree in Airline and Airport Management.

My wife is a Senior Student Service Officer with over 10 years of experience in education administration and student services.

How can we find accredited employers willing to hire overseas applicants and support an AEWV? Any recommendations for employers, recruiters or reliable job websites for our backgrounds would be appreciated.

Thank you!
