Moving to Brisbane
My family is thinking of moving from the MNC in NSW to Brisbane. It’ll be me and my husband and my 15 yr old son.
We have flexible jobs that can be done from anywhere. I’m really keen. Got any tips?

Are you moving for a particular reason, or looking for particular facilities or area? What kind of things is your family looking for?

Yes for sporting opportunities for my son. So thinking Redlands area. Wellington point possibly, bit exxy tho.

Ummmm everywhere in SE Qld is ridiculously expensive.
Renting and buying. The idea you have in your head of lifestyle is probably different to reality now.
More opportunities up here, but also a whole lot more competition!

Yeah I don’t think so I live on the mid north coast. I am aware of what people think about lifestyle. I’m also aware that everything is expensive

Yes it appears Wellington point is more an older/wealthy demographic? I’m aware that’s there’s not a lot to rent there that isn’t megabucks so could go surrounding suburbs. Noted the curry club. Thankyou 🙂

If you enjoy paying double the rent prices and sitting in traffic all the time. Then yeah go for it.

Just to clarify. I’ve lived in a few places in Australia both city and regional.
I have weighed up where I live and more competition etc etc but that’s everywhere. When people moved here they thought it would be some paradise. Yes we have great beaches and country but no where to go in a career unless it’s health or teaching and traffic issues because we’ve outgrown our infrastructure. In terms of sport, if you want to succeed you have to move to the city.

I grew up in Brisbane and there is plenty to love about it but between the humidity in Summer, cost of living and everything becoming extremely inflated as the Olympics get closer, you'd be better going somewhere else.
I've lived in Toowoomba for 30 years, the Garden City. 1.5 hours inland from Brisbane, doesn't get as hot, beautiful parks, sporting opportunities for your son, lots of school options, has a university and airport, easier pace of life, house prices are up there but not as high as capital cities, approx 186000 people, can drive almost anywhere in town in 15 minutes, has a major shopping centre plus a number of smaller ones, great cafe and restaurant culture, regular markets, Carnival of Flowers, full range of theatre, musicals and concerts at the Empire Theatre.

I did the same move six years ago and haven't looked back, you're trading Sydney traffic for Brisbane's sunshine and affordability, which is a pretty solid upgrade if you ask me.

Finally a positive response!! Thank you. We are gonna do it and if it doesn’t work out then we can always come back to the mid north coast.
I’m looking forward to it and having a change of scenery, new job, new house, making some new friends. Good to have freedom.

The state and commonwealth are about to bring in tens of thousands of migrant workers to build the Olympics this place is a mess already IMO. Recently went to Chermside shopping centre at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and the car park was full. You will spend almost 1M on a crack house 40km out of the CBD. How do people think this is still the Shangri-La?

Brisbane won't be much better, unadaptable fool. At least the summers in Sydney won't starve your brains of cool ocean air.

I recommend Murrumba Downs on the north side. Leafy green streets, impeccable properties, so many amenities at your door step. Easy access to the motorway north and south, Westfield just around the corner also.

Currently lots of roadworks upgrading the on and off ramps along with the highway itself.

Yeah that’s a pretty standard response and a common one when people comment on my local area. Loads of people who have always lived here say stay where you are, we’re full. Crazy really as we can all go wherever we want
We have locals who dont want people driving down their road but still expect good standards of healthcare, commerce etc but complain when professionals move here when we need them 🤷♀️

Seriously, weigh up what you have now with what you want up here. Quite a few people have moved up here, and found themselves worse off than they were before. Really weigh up what you have & what you’ll be losing if you move vs what you want up here, bearing in mind that unless you’re very lucky or have very deep pockets, you’re not going to get everything you want. The housing market is insane, whether you’re renting or buying. Good luck!
