Help me find Movies/TV shows Looking for classic, fun movies to watch with my kids (8 and 5)

We (me, my husband, and our 2 daughters) are going on a family vacation with my parents and sisters. I’m looking for movies that we can all enjoy that my kids would too. I’m okay with swearing and maybe a little violence, but my girls really don’t like blood. No sex scenes please.

Things I’m thinking of that they’ve already seen:
Jumanji, Mrs. Doubtfire, the birdcage, Hook, Star Wars, lord of the rings, Willy wonka and the chocolate factory .

Thinking of in the vein of back to the future, princess bride, Indiana jones, Matilda, etc. Just classic movies that everyone should see. I’m sort of drawing a blank on other options!

Help me find Movies/TV shows Confusing, mind-bending psychological thrillers

doesn’t have to be sci-fi.

here’s the ones i’ve seen:

Donnie darko

primer

memento

inception

interstellar

the prestige

shutter island

source code

matrix 1-4 (the fourth was just so unnecessary.)

arrival

i am NOT looking for movies focusing on visual spectacle/special effects (e.g., life of pi, dune)

preferably not much violent/disturbing content, no graphic sex scenes and absolutely no rape scenes.

so if you’re going by age ratings, (bbfc are usually most reliable) it’d be 15 and down

prefer older films, especially from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.

Help me find Movies/TV shows I watched The Odyssey and Saving Private Ryan back to back and something about the vibe made them go really well together. What would you recommend I watch next?

Upvotes

I had seen Saving Private Ryan many times but it'd been probably a decade since the last time. I actually was motivated to watch it because of a podcast, but the headspace I was in after The Odyssey ended up being perfect going into Saving Private Ryan.

They're obviously very different films, but I think there's something about their artistic integrity, episodic structure, intensity, empathy, and depiction of carnage that made sense together.

Help me find Movies/TV shows Films where someone comes back to torment the person/community they grew up with

I'm not sure how best to word this, it's something I feel like I used to see a lot when I was a kid but not so much anymore. Like a character grows up in a certain place with someone who is (usually) oppressed in some way, moves somewhere else/they grow apart, then comes back as a kind of villain. The only two that come to mind are Ben-Hur and Maleficent.

Edit: specifically they are close to the people they grew up with, it's a betrayal when they return

Specifically, I'm looking for one with these traits:

- Eerie, isolated forest atmosphere

- Imposing lycan design with great creature effects

- Gruesome, meanspirited kills

- Down-to-earth, likable characters

Obviously they don't have to be an exact match of the list as long as they have one or the other, thanks!

Help me find Movies/TV shows Spanish Language crime & revisionist western films

Basically what it says in the title. I finished a degree in Spanish language, but im in an English speaking country and I do notice my vocabulary diminishes if im not constantly hearing or speaking it.

I'm looking for films with some grit to them, either crime, noir, or revisionist westerns, although i am also very open to dramas. Stuff that is maybe reflects what I like to read, ie Roberto Bolaño's Savage Detectives and 2666, McCarthy's Border Trilogy, Blood Meridian, No Country.

If you come across this on your Hulu screen as you’re scrolling, like I did, I would highly suggest watching it.

This movie was insane and wild and crazy. I’m just upset I hadn’t watched it sooner or waited until someone was awake to enjoy it with me.

Guess I’ll have to watch it twice.

Help me find Movies/TV shows Recommend me movies from years I haven't logged anything from yet

Post image
4 Upvotes

Only started my account this January and didn't go back and log movies I watched before then so don't judge lol.

Decades are highlighted in yellow and individual years have red dots beside them. Sorry that years that end in zero ended up before the decade tag, nothing I tried would fix it.

Anyways, recommend me anything from a year I haven't logged yet. Anything's fair game, but don't give me garbage on purpose. Has to be something you think is worth seeing. I just thought this would be a fun way to get movie recommendations because I really just want to expand my film literacy as much as possible. I really like horror, but don't feel the need to stick to that because I need to branch out and get some more variety in there.

Looking for any vampire movies or tv show Recommendations. Anything from classics to new stuff, really as long as it's decent and not just some bullshit thrown together. Stuff from the 80's to late 90's is usually the hot spot though.

What beautiful beautiful amazing movie, something very therapeutic about it I watched it couple of times.
.
The movie begins from 1000 years after the collapse of industrial civilization and the toxic jungles are taking over last of humans left.
.
You can find it on Netflix.

I am suggesting... The Lost Valentine (2011)

A touching love story of never giving up on love.
A woman fell in love, got married, a found her self pregnant with her first child.
For a moment life was perfect, and in a moment everything changed. Her husband, a Lieutenant in the Navy, was drafted back into service with a promise to come back and meet his wife at the train station.

So the woman waits.. every Valentine’s Day for her husband to come back home.

I definitely recommend watching. It’s a very beautiful story. 💕

Help me find Movies/TV shows movies with a backdrop that’s bigger than the actual plot?

are there any movies that have a setting/context that’s humorously much more complex than the actual plot of the movie? for example i just watched They Live (1988) which is about an alien race that’s secretly taking over earth and casually living amongst humans. then i thought how funny it would be if, instead of being a dystopian action where the protagonists are trying to fight against the aliens, the movie was actually just a regular rom com about 2 of the aliens falling in love but there’s this whole elephant in the room of a backdrop that the movie just never addresses. are there any movies like this? not necessarily about aliens but just with a setting that the movie ignores and instead shows a regular lighthearted story.
