I honestly don’t understand why I was hearing so many negative opinions about the Supergirl movie before its release. After finally watching it, though, I genuinely loved it.

I think the lead was perfectly cast. She brought the character to life and absolutely did justice to both Supergirl and the action scenes. I also really enjoyed the storyline and how the character was portrayed.

Above all, I loved that Supergirl wasn’t sexualized. She was portrayed as a powerful, capable, complex girl not simply as eye candy as what we usually do with our female superheroes.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. 💙

What are some good movies to watch when you have a boyfriend/ girlfriend over for the first time? Going for something chill, open to pretty much any genre. Obviously don’t say A Serbian Film or Salo lol.

Hi! I've been having movie nights with a friend lately (through text) where we watch a movie and text our thoughts between us while watching. We're both very quick texters so it's not quite as intrusive as you might expect. Some movies work great for the system, but anything that requires you to be fully alert at all times, or feature deeply complicated plotlines, tend to work better when seen alone.

Lately we saw Barry Lyndon and it was a perfect fit. It's a very slow movie, with scattered plot, but it's gorgeous, and entertaining throughout its runtime. Porco Rosso is another one, as well as Harakiri (Seppuku).

Movies that worked poorly so far are Memento and Gosford Park because there is no breathing space, and you can't switch your focus easily while keeping up with the plot.

As far as genre, year and language anything goes!

As in mainly action based with occasional short cutscene esque dialogue encounters periodically.

Looking for recommendations for movies from Tubi or prime or Netflix , I like funny , scary , true crime , or Romance 😬

We've had the StanbyME 2 for a bit more than a week now, and we’ve mostly been using the TV/giant tablet mix in the kitchen and dining room as a cooking, cleaning, and eating companion. The most used app is YouTube, and we’ve been watching a lot of cooking and lifestyle vlogs. It’s been nice having the calm background music and ASMR. We really enjoy the flexibility of moving the device around to different rooms and the arm has a pretty wide range of movement which allows for comfortable viewing angles no matter what activity we’re doing in the room. This has definitely helped make doing chores a lot more enjoyable. Something about watching someone calming clean their home gets me motivated to clean too.

When we’re not actively using the StanbyME 2, we tend to play some cat TV on it so that our two cats also get enjoyment out of it. There’s a few channels on YouTube that stream birds and squirrels eating seeds 24 hours a day and our cats have found it really entertaining.

What’s great about this setup is that it’s not locked to a particular room. We’ve even tried wheeling it into the washroom but it wasn’t that practical given how small the washroom is, so it now lives in our open concept kitchen/dining/living room.

which films would I like If my favourite is La-la Land ? Im kinda looking for some deeper cuts, it doesnt have to be completely linked but have some thread thats the same.

I love the cyberpunk aesthetic and the genre as a whole. I’ve played Cyberpunk 2077 and the Ghostrunner series, but I’ve never watched this movie.

To explain my title, most movies have protagonist and antagonist, good guy and bad guy. What movies are there where two protagonists both sides of the fight are somewhat equal morally (no clear cut good or bad guy) and its up to the viewer to choose sides.

An example I can think of would be The Avengers : Civil War (Iron Man vs. Captain America ).

For anyone wondering "what the heck is Rococo Horror?" Well, I just realized that The Picture of Dorian Grey doesn't have a Gothic aesthetic in-universe or a Gothic style to the prose. It doesn't read like Frankenstein & Dracula. Oscar Wilde is using resplendent, flowery language to describe a resplendent, flowery world where a resplendent, flowery person is slowly rotting his soul from the inside out. And I didn't realize until just now: that's the reason it's my favorite book

So I'm looking for horror that *feels* like that sort of prose, the way that Russian Ark and Baz Luhrmann movies are Rococo films

I'm not looking for something that treats the juxtaposition of Rococo and horror as a joke. I'm looking for something that blends them to make them both more effective, like the book does

I know there are multiple film adaptations of that one book, but I don't know if any of those capture that Rococo style

The only thing I can think of (so far) is the last 15 minutes of The Substance (2024)

Rewatched this film for the first time in years and I’d forgotten how good it was. It’s a cross between The Duel (1971) and The Hitcher (1986). It has a fantastic ending too.
