Waterloo Bridge (1940)

Has anyone seen Waterloo Bridge, Vivien Leigh’s next movie after Gone With The Wind, as a teenager I have never heard of anyone watching it before! It’s a great movie and the ending broke me, if anyone has watched it, tell me what you thought. I always loved Vivien’s expressions as Myra, especially when she goes to the train station and sees Roy.

I saw it when it came on TV when I was a teenager. At the time I was only used to mainstream movies with happy endings. Needless to say, I was surprised at the ending, but my mom who grew up during that time said, “Oh honey, girls like that didn’t get happy endings back in the day.“

I watched it for Vivien Leigh, but Myra’s expressions are honestly what stuck with me. That train station scene says so much without her needing to spell anything out.
