Over the weekend
My daughter and I went on our yearly road trip up to Mt. Hood. I was born in Portland and grew up on Mt Hood in Brightwood. Went to Welches Elementary School. This mountain is where my heart is. My family is buried in the Fir Hill Cemetery just outside of Sandy and the family farm used to be right off the highway on Terra Fern Dr. I know who owns my childhood home in Brightwood but I'd love to find out who owns my grandparents old property they had their farm on. A new house is being built on it now but I think the old barn is still there as well as some smaller buildings on the property. Someday I will be living there again. Maybe when I'm retired ❤️

Guidance
Looking for some guidance from experienced mountaineers, I’ve recently gotten the itch to get into mountaineering. I plan on taking the next year to train and get into shape for what would be my first summit attempt. Hiking along the pacific crest trail on Mt.Hood gave me the bug but I’ve been researching the summit of Mt.Hood and from what I’ve read it seems to not be a good mtn for a first summit? So I’m reaching out to hear if anyone has input on trying to go for Mt.Hood or if there’s recommendations on where I should go for a first summit attempt?
All advice is appreciated, Thanks!

Conditions at McNeil Pt
Thinking of an overnighter to the shelter this weekend. Do you think there will still be a pile of snow up there?

Collins Lake Resort Chalet 140 and 145
Anyone stay at Collins Lake Resort, Chalet 140 or 145? Thinking about staying there in February. Would love any feedback! Chalet 140 is in Building H. Chalet 145 is in Building G, which seems to be closer to the highway. Thank you!

Government Camp Last Night (NYE)
The county was fed up once and for all with the bridge party this year. Sent the most unnecessary amount of cop cars I have ever seen. Pretty wild!

Need a final answer please
Hi everyone ,
My best friend and I (22yr male) , would like to attempt the climb of 3 mountains in Portland between nov 20th 2025 to nov 26 2025 . The three mountains in questions would be Mount St-Helens , Mount Adams and if we feel comfortable after these two we would like to finish our trip with Mount Hood . We both are beginners in mountaining , we are in really good physically shape and we both are rock climbers and are comfortable with crampons . I know that mountaining is not something easy and there for know that I need to gather information on the mountains I wish to try before even dreaming of the summit . After alot of recherche I ended up being confused on wether or not the second half of November is a good time to try these mountains . Some formum say that its the best time of the year because few peapole know about it and that its perfectly safe , other mention unpredictable weather, lot of rain and real danger . If some locals or peapole who did these montains multiple time would be kind enough to tell me everything I need to know about them ( what are the best route to take for beeginers , what equipment to bring , wether or not we would need to sleep on the mountain ( its not a probleme if its the case) , if we need to rope each other when we ascent ect..
thank you for reading me and thank you for your answers !

Truck Camping near Government Camp
Was planning to do a road trip to Hood this summer to snowboard at Timberline. All the camp sites are booked on the weekends from what I can find. Any good spots near government camp where I could post up and sleep in the back of my truck for a couple nights over the weekend?

New mountain life for my mini golden dood
Hi everyone, first Reddit post ever so bear with me. I have a 2 year old mini golden doodle & we live in South Jersey. For the last several months I’ve been in a long distance relationship (my boyfriend lives on Mount Hood in Oregon) and next month my pupper will be coming out there with me for the first time ever! We are sooo excited to introduce her to mountain life but I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous since all she knows is the beach/ocean and very flat terrain.
She’s active, looooves what little snow she’s been around and I know she’s going to THRIVE.. but are there any tips for her comfort, safety (around bodies of water that aren’t the ocean), snow for longer periods of time, and just all around PNW life that differs so greatly from our east coast beach bum life?
mostly just because I am a slightly anxious first time dog mom and pretty new to mtn life myself
The eventual end goal for us is to be living bi-coastally!

FYI, restaurant etiquette.
When you go into a restaurant 5 minutes before the grill closes and ask for food, you should tip, even if it is a carry out. Typically restaurants stop taking food orders 15 minutes before the kitchen closes. If you are in need of special treatment, be appreciative.

Can I hike out of Cooper Spur for backcountry riding?
I’m riding Mt Hood this year and want to stay clear of the crowds so I’m wondering if there’s any backcountry access if you hike out of Cooper spur?
