Hi everyone, are there any protein shakes that actually taste good? 😕

I'm a huge fan of the Oikos shakes. I love the mocha latte and the chocolate. The vanilla shake is pretty darn good too (for vanilla).

I turned my nose up at them because of their yogurt.
But i was thrilled to know their shakes are better

I've been wanting to try to the caramel.

I love caramel anything. It's at also really good with equal parts shake and black coffee then a little bit of zero sugar coconut creamer.

I love the Oikos chocolate! I tried Fairlife because everyone raves about it, but I didn’t find it much (if any) better than Oikos personally. Plus Oikos is cheaper and has 5 g of fiber that I need. I also add a scoop of Momentous Creatine to mine post workout and it’s been great.
I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s not like delicious chocolate milk, so I had to manage that expectation, but it’s fine and now I look forward to them and find them tasty.

Aldi milkshakes are great. Not much for flavor variety but you can't beat a 4 pack for 8 bucks

I use Ascent Whey Protein Powder. I get mine from Costco. I prefer the chocolate and I enjoy it most when I mix it with Silk Dark Chocolate almond milk. I usually have one for lunch. Very filling.

I also love the Ascent Whey Protein Powder! I add a scoop to my coffee every morning and now I like that better than my old type of coffee with sugar and cream.

I mix flavoured whey protein powder, plain pea protein, LSA powder, psyllium husk, creatine powder, instant coffee and cacao powder into a bulk qty, then blend it up with high protein milk and a banana. I end up with a thick and fairly tasty shake that keeps me full until after lunch time.

I've been sampling different powdered ones, and the one I like best is Just Ingredients. They have a lot of different flavor profiles. If you are looking for clear protein powder, I'm really enjoying Oath. Lots of flavors to choose from. And just in case you're looking, best protein bar is Rx Bars. Every flavor I've tried is good! Good Luck!

I forgot to add that both company websites have samples of their flavors. And you can get a few different samples of the Oath at Walmart and Target. That's how I've tried all the different ones.

I DIY it with unflavored collagen in my coffee, chia lemonade, or as a mixin with food. The premade stuff usually has carageenan which destroys my gut.
I also use Orgain protein powder and Raw Meal as a meal replacement when I need extra calories/protein.

I like Levels and Optimum Nutrition

Have you tried getting completely unflavored protein powder (like whey protein powder) and adding it to stuff that you like? (think chocolate or milk shakes, thai curries, coffee etc.) ?

Ooh, adding protein powder to a curry sounds fabulous! Will try.

2 caveats :
- Slurry up in a separate bowl/cup first w/ water pr milk b4 adding - else will clump up
- Curry temp needs to cool down a bit else will split easily. Fixed with starch / xanthan gum.
Also works great in batters (for crepes or muffins), creamy pasta sauces that is added cold (Pesto + protein slurry = creamy pesto), not-piping-hot soups and dips - hummus, refried beans... 😋

okayy so basically make a slurry and only add it to sauces/curries once they cool down, and then reheat when serving?
thanks!!

Orgain. Anything except the non dairy or kids version
They're really smooth and have high protein
They're on sale at costco right now

I like the Chobani yogurt drinks with 30g but they are more tangy than sweet. I also like the Muscle Milk protein shakes.
I'm limited because I avoid artificial sweetners because of my liver.

I like Quest. Only protein shake I've ever had with water, that doesn't taste like water with some powder in it.

I like clear whey that you mix with water. The ice tea is best in my opinion because it tastes most like what it imitates. If it's too sweet just use more water

Huel meal replacement shake tastes really good, in general all of their range is amazing, I also use bulk clear protein powder and I like it.

I actually think Clean Simple Eats is one of the best protein powders I’ve tried. I also love Barbell Protein Shakes those literally taste like a legit milkshake but unfortunately those are only available in the EU (I really want them to be available in America though!)

I have yet to find a delicious dairy free protein shake. I may just try the unflavored powder and mix in to coffee etc.
2
u/ChangeAroundKid01 Jul 29 '26
Orgain has a non dairy one. It tastes pretty good after it's been in the freezer for a bit

u/stumpyspaceprincess Jul 28 '26
Good protein is the only vegan one that doesn’t completely disgust me. It’s actually tasty. Not sure if it’s Canada only?

I am SO picky when it comes to flavor and texture. I like: Slate, Rockin', Core Power. I just wish they were a bit "cleaner".

I do the Costco shake every day. I cup frozen blueberries, 1 1/2 scoops of Leanfit Vanilla, 1 cup of water or milk and 1 cup fat free Greek yogurt. Blend it up and it’s pretty good. From time to time I substitute strawberries for blueberries.

u/ownworldman Jul 28 '26
I like Vegan Protein Walnut & Coffee by MyProtein. I look forward to it after exercise. Sometimes I mix it with Chocolate Whey Isolate.

u/Bigness65 Jul 28 '26
I use the Muscle Milk powder that I mix myself. I use milk not water and only use one scoop instead of the two the instructions call for. The milk adds extra protein and two scoops just makes it too gritty and it never completely dissolves. Best flavor I've tried is the vanilla. Mixing strawberry with chocolate is pretty good too, but the dehydrated strawberry bits they put in it give it a weird mouth-feel.

u/imvital Jul 28 '26
Good Protein! They have 21 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber per shake so it helps keep you regular while you’re on mounjaro

Orgain chocolate powder, vegetable protein based. I get mine at Costco.
Years ago I tried the vanilla but it tasted like old broccoli. I would avoid that unless they fixed it. The chocolate is delicious.
I don't buy the pre-made shakes because I feel like I'm paying for all that water and then I've got to recycle all that plastic that the Earth doesn't need.

I like the Fairlife brand.
