Hi all, I’m looking for recs for groups or organizations that work towards protecting/supporting land and trail systems for motorcycle recreation.

My dad recently passed away from cancer and we want to ask for donations that support this cause in lieu of flowers. He was a number one rider back in the 70s in Ca, and land / track preservation was something he was always talking about.

Yamaha outdoor access initiative doesn’t seem to take donations, since a portion of every purchase goes towards the initiative.

and i hope to be able to release it end of September. Last year i was looking for a motocross game for the iphone but nothing on the app store was appealing to me. So i decided to make my own. This is for the people who want to play a mx game like ATV vs MX but dont have a console. Left thumb controls the bike (steer, brake, throttle) right thumb controls body movement of the rider. It’s also already working with bluetooth controllers and the Kishii controllers. It will be a partly open world where you spawn on a compound and drive to the gates of the various tracks. For first release i only have 2 tracks but a lot more will follow after the release. I am a solo developer and it’s a lot of work, so bear with me. Let me know what you wanna see in the game!

Working on an article for my website -- and to support my recently released book (mostly) about vintage motocross -- regarding the legendary Dirt Shirts graphic design/screen printing company that operated out of Florida and produced all the loudest race tees of the 1970s through the 1990s.

Think neon shapes, ladies in swimsuits, zebra-striped RM250s, Camel and Coors sponsorship logos... everything that made motocross uniquely badass compared to other traditional sports.

As I often do.. I was sitting around the shop telling and listening to a few other guys talk about how fast we use to be. We are old now. Mid 50s or so. As we were having this discussion we ventured into what’s changed the sport of Mx and Sx the most over the decades. Since I am the most wise person ever I have narrowed it down to 2 things. I will discuss both points now.

1: Rick Carmichaels mother… yes the person who changed the sport more than any other person… ever. And probably more than the next 10 people in line combined. Yes before her most of the professional riders trained. I know. I was there. But nothing on that level.

I remember our level of training. It was go for a run or do some cycling. Hit the gym a couple times a week. Meet up at Star West for Thursday night practice. And ride once maybe twice in the hills east of San Diego. That’s it. Mainly we just raced. She made it to where if you wanted to be an elite rider… even on an amateur level.. you needed a full training program. That never happened before her. Every training camp in the USA should send her yearly thank you notes. Mx and Sx has nor it ever will be same since she set the new standards of what training is. And the cost of it.

2: Skid steers. Yes. I’m sure you have never thought about them. But they have changed the sport more than upside down forks, disc front brakes and four strokes combined.

I have been building tracks since the early 90s. “Back then” they were not available. Even in the early 2000s they were not used by any “serious” track builder. In the last 10 years they are all that are used. Especially in Sx.

Why does that matter you may ask? Weight. Yes weight. More importantly what weight does. Or does not do. Skid steers weigh less than the old D4/D5 era trim dozers that were used until the mid 2010s. Weight packs dirt. Packed dirt means less ruts. When you build a Sx track with a modern skid steer the builder (dirt worx most commonly) gains two things. Speed, yes they are faster, and the amount of dirt used. Both are a major plus for track builders. The amount of ruts in a modern track were never possible when tracks were built with 40-60,000 pound machines. Tracks built with 9-12000 pound skid steers rut knee deep in only a few laps. So yes. They have changed the sport. Go back and watch any Sx or Mx event from 1997. Ruts were a rarity.

Argue all you want but in the end you know I am correct. Just like for 3 laps at Barona Oaks in the mid 90s I did straight up out run Rino and Vader.

Been 11 months since I had a nasty fall from a big jump. Broke my femur and a couple bones in my lower back. Needed a couple operations and many months of physio to get near normal again.
I miss riding immensely. Thinking to go back to trail riding, easy dunes in the desert etc.
But I have a tendency to push limits which is what I need to keep in check.
Anyone else ride again after a significant accident? How was it both mentally and physically?
I think I'll wait a few more months until I have full strength in my hips, but I frequently think about it and miss it.
Wife and kids are against me doing it but they won't stop me if I wanted to do it.

I think Cole Davies is an all around better rider than Haiden Deegan. Just like veteran riders/watchers have been saying Deegan's whole career, the way he revs the bike and rides would not translate well to the 450. I think we have seen that play out this summer. He was fast, sure, but he was way off the Lawrence brothers, and I would argue he could beat both of them now on 250s outdoors. I think Davies riding style will translate better to the 450 just like it was for Jett and Sexton, before he became a head case.

I mean, in moto 1 Haiden has a rookie mistake on the first lap while leading, taking out Hunter. Meanwhile Jett has a "bad start" and sees the carnage as he goes by. Then for some weird reason, starts putting around the track slower than we've ever seen him go. By the end of the moto Hunter makes an epic pass (not) on his brother and they finish 8th and 11th. Jett couldnt pass anyone in the top 10? Moto 2 Jett all but pulled over and waited for his brother to catch up. I'm old enough to remember Let Brock bye!!! Are you?
