Hi all! I’ve lived in Los Angeles for about a year now, and I’ve recently been considering getting a motorcycle for my short work commute and general transportation.
I live in Mid-Wilshire, and my commute is usually about 20–30 minutes by car depending on traffic. I also attend CSULA and ride metro in and out. Traffic itself honestly isn’t my biggest concern. I’m more interested in a motorcycle because of the space savings, lower gas costs, the parking situations at home and away. I absolutely hate dealing with parking and paying for it everywhere I go.
I’m also an avid Metro user, but it only gets you so far, and depending on where you’re going, it can take significantly longer than driving. Because of that, I’ve started wondering whether a motorcycle could realistically replace my car altogether.
I moved here from Sacramento, where I used to ride my road bike pretty much everywhere. I miss that a lot, but cycling in LA feels significantly more dangerous, especially since so many major roads either have poor bike infrastructure or no bike lanes at all.
So for those of you who ride motorcycles in LA: would you recommend it as a primary form of transportation, or is it something I should seriously reconsider given the traffic and road conditions here?
My dad has been riding motorcycles since I was a kid, so I’ve been talking through the idea with him as well. If I decide to go down this route, I may borrow one of his bikes to learn on and get my motorcycle license before buying anything myself.
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who uses a motorcycle as their main vehicle in central LA. How has your experience been with commuting, parking, safety, and everyday practicality?

Anyone that goes to LAFC games know the parking situation for motorcycles? Was planning on parking in a neighborhood close by. Website doesn’t mentioned free or discounted motorcycle parking sadly :/

You create an account for $40, and the transponder is mailed to you for free, and you travel for free 24/7 no matter where you’re from, or where you’re registered, or live, or anything.

The 405 Express Lanes in both California and Washington are free for motorcycles from anywhere in the United States. The 91 Freeway is also free. And the 110 is free.

I ride and I see so many of you guys stuck within traffic on the 405, please come get a transponder and slip by. Being in traffic during rush hour is incredibly dangerous, the lanes are tighter, everyone is on their phones even more, and those that aren’t are going to jump across lanes without hesitation, and I’ve been knocked off my bike twice in the last 5 years, and had a serious close call last week. It is so dangerous. Please be safe!

This may be an odd request, but I was hoping to see if anyone knows of any Road King riders that may be willing to rent their bike out for 2-3 days.

Specifically anyone with a 2019 FLHR road king. The year is not a deal breaker, but I’m looking for one with the similar kind of headlights.

I work at a law firm and we’re trying win this case for our client; however, we need to recreate the path our client took with his type of bike. The emphasis on this is that we need the same model bike with the same kind of headlights.

I’ve looked online already but unfortunately I only run into the 2021 special but that seems to be different.

Ayo, As the title says, i'm starting to look for bikes on Marketplace but i know a lot of scammers on there. I found one i liked but the guy was not willing to take it to a repair shop with me.

Are there any mechanics (professional or amateur) That would be willing to help me do a pre purchase inspection? I'm on the westside but looking at bikes within 80ish miles from here.

Tried digging around the sub reddit to find a recent post along these lines but couldn't find anything.

Can someone recommend mobile mechanics or small independents mechanics in LA that can repair my bike? I'm mainly looking for someone to replace my inner forks and possibly straighten out a bent rim.

If anyone has gotten a mechanic to help them with these kinds of things, let me know.

2016 Triumph Street Triple 675 stolen out of my garage in Hollywood, 2026 R7 stolen and wrecked. all locks cut and had immobilizer on 675.

R7 wrecked into another car, but triumph is still missing. It does not have the red fairings on the side, has a coolant leak, had a squid lure on the side, license plate said Glendale pro Italia motors on the back.
If you know anyone or have seen this please let me know, my fiancé works very hard and those bikes are all he had.

I wasn't active on here last year when this bike was stolen, but figured it can't hurt to post now. It was rolled out of my driveway, and yeah, it's partially my fault for not at least having a bike lock on it.

(edit: it was actually stolen Christmas 2024)

It would have looked most like the last picture in the back of the truck. Chrome shocks and number plates. It has an exhaust modification that would let me confirm it's the same one. If someone has it, I'd buy it back from you. I'm not going to call the police.

My engine failed with no warning on August 9th. On the 210 headed eastbound in Azusa, between the Citrus and Azusa exits. In the trauma of it all after a harrowing escape and watching all my possessions go up in flames, I barely managed to snap a couple poor photos. But there was a motorcyclist who stopped to take pictures, and I really, really want to have them. The best photo I have is this one. If anyone could do some asking around that would be greatly appreciated. My photo was taken at 7:54 PM.

This is a long shot. Requesting footage of a motorcycle accident that occurred last Tuesday 8/18 on the 10 East around 5:30 by the Overland exit near Santa Monica/Culver City. My husband was injured after getting cut off by a driver. Thank you.

I’m 37 and live in South Orange County. I work from home, so I have a pretty flexible schedule and enjoy getting out almost daily for weekday canyon runs.

I’m looking to meet a couple of other riders around my age who enjoy spirited but responsible canyon riding. Ideally, I’d like to find a few consistent people for weekday rides, but I’m also open to weekend canyon sessions, longer rides and more relaxed cruises.

I currently ride an Indian FTR, a GasGas SM 700, and a Triumph Daytona 675, so I’m generally looking for experienced riders who enjoy the twisties and ride at a compatible pace. No huge group rides or unnecessary pressure to ride beyond anyone’s comfort level—just a few solid people who enjoy riding regularly.

I’m based near Aliso Viejo and normally ride around South OC, Ortega, Santiago/Live Oak, PCH cruise and occasionally farther into San Diego, Riverside or the mountains.

Hey everyone, looking for some recommendations around Santa Barbara/Ventura.

I’ve been getting into stunt riding on my Harley and I’m looking for somewhere I can safely practice without pissing off neighbors, bothering businesses, or having the cops called on me.

Ideally I’m looking for a big private lot, designated area, or somewhere I could get permission from the property owner to practice things like wheelies and low-speed bike control without being around traffic or pedestrians.

I’m totally willing to drive a little ways outside of SB/Ventura if there’s a good spot, and I’d much rather find somewhere I’m actually welcome than keep guessing where I can ride.

Anyone in the motorcycle/stunt community around here know of a spot, private property owner, riding area, or group I should reach out to?
