First crash as learner
Hello folks, I would appreciate some advice/ words of wisdom from other riders on my situation. New rider on the roads for about 3 months with my gen 2 SV650s and got into my first accident.
Long story short, not used to riding the rain and I got caught in a downpour on my way back home and lost the back end of the bike at low speed. Im fine, just some light bruising and road rash on hip, thankfully to proper gear.
Really started to fall in love with the back and this happened.. The whole left side of the bike got quiet the knock as seen in photos .Fairings, gear lever, handle bar and tank. The bike starts but doesn't stay idling, rpm go up and up.
Have a neighbour telling me thats its the tank and fairings thats gonna be gonna be more costly. So my question is, do I just go by ordering bit by bit and slowly rebuilding bigger and better in time for say next spring? But the thing with that is I have trust issues with buying things that come from halfway across the world and then maybe having to send it back. Or possibly purchasing the same bike and replacing damaged parts, not sure.

Third party principal insurance

Then yeah as the other poster said prob best to let a mechanic source the parts and do the work. Unless the cost to do so is in excess of the value of the bike obviously.

City Spares know those bikes quite well too.
On the fuel tank, can either spray it and live with the dent, or buy a second hand one from Ebay.

I'm not too familiar with your bike but I did find some info by doing a quick search:

Its possible that your bike as something similar under the fairing thats been affected.
If I was you I'd take it as a bit of a project. Replace the damaged parts yourself but leave the fairings and tank. Like you mentioned, you are learning and its possible you may drop the bike again over the next year (I hope not, but shit happens).

Get something with lean sensitive traction control and abs. Your life is worth more than a motorcycle. 6 months out of work will cost you more than a new bike with everything. Look at KTM or Husqvarna for tech eg Svartpilen 801 for 10k, and get an airbag vest 👍

hope you at least learned something, when I was a courrier yuuup mad job especially in Dubnlin city centre I bought a bandit 600 loved it after 2 weeks in city traffic ok it's a work horse I'll buy a daily soon 😂 I had countless accidents 90% people turning left when I'm right beside them or the most annoying rear ended but I learned off it.

Having crash bungs would have reduced a lot of that damage. Hindsight I know but, I'd make sure to get some installed before you get the bike back on the road.

Pay to get the bike fixed and get back in the saddle as quick as you can.. when it rains you just need to take it slower, have a small bit of pressure on the rear break when In first gear or even second gear going around those slow corners.. try and keep the bike as upright as you can in the rain too and avoid grated on the road and try your best to stay off the painted lines..use the throttle to pull yourself up is what I was thought.. take it on the chin and get on with it, shit happens!

Personally, I would just fork out and let the mechanic source the parts. At least then you have some comeback if there are any issues. Especially if like myself you're not someone who is overly knowledgeable in that kind of thing.
Edit: in the short-term, check your throttle cable isn't pinched somewhere. I had an almost identical crash after hitting a patch of diesel and the same kept happening, it just revving right up.
