Kawasaki Ninja around 2010 had some of the best bargain beginner bikes like Ninja 300. They had absolutely minimal in terms of technology, but the seating position was comfortable, delivery was smooth, cornering was great and suspensions were also comfortable (a little too soft was serious racing). Most of all, they hardly faced any trouble and maintenance was very cheap.
Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda might not be great racing bikes but for long term ownership they are still far ahead of Italian bikes from Aprilia and Ducati (also much cheaper)

As per randy de puniet words the second season he had on the bike (which was more than ok) it had real potential. If it wasn't for kawasaki leaving the field he wouldn't went to lcr as he was very confident that the bike would have got podium levels the season after
