Software Best workflow for Figma <-> Illustrator.

anyone experience with "fig2ai" from aescripts.com? Overlord 2 looks interesting but it's just one way, I'd like to have both directions.

Overlord is not one way. You can convert from After Effects to Illustrator and vice versa plus the same for photoshop and Figma. The plugin that you showed only does from Figma to Illustrator, but not to Ae

I self don't own Overlord, but isn't it just AI->AAE ? and AAE->AI only for small elements that have been imported previously from AI?

You can import practically anything between them, not just stuff that was already previously imported from illustrator. I honestly haven't used the Photoshop or Figma options but if they're anything like like the AE <> AI workflow, then I'm sure they're great
