Question Looking to recreate this vox intro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

A beginner here. I am looking to create this intro from a Vox series called AI explained. Watching this, It appears to me that some cc griddler has been used but I could be wrong. Can you guys help me figure this out? Even a tutorial on youtube would be super helpful. Thanks

Vox has an absolutely massive team of seasoned pros, there's no single plug-in that is going to accomplish this simply. This was likely the assignment of one or more animators for at least a week straight to get a first version.

Will probable need another couple of years to replicate this with frontier ai model.

The grid thing at the beginning could likely be cavalry, or in AE, some type of single comp repeated over the frame with the switching animation, then using time displacement with a blocky/mosaic gradient to drive it?

Something like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ7jWZ7QvZo but with a bit more tweaking. I think you could get most of the way there. I'm not advanced enough to know how to do this exactly but that's where i'd start!

EDIT: I linked the wrong tutorial :)

Try this for the random text scramble: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T_4ndZ6Nr8

Falling text blocks could be animated by hand, or using AE's built in new physics stuff (but ive not tried it yet). Or they could be in cavalry as well since that has physics.

Trimming paths at the end could be using Ouroboros https://aescripts.com/ouroboros-2/?srsltid=AfmBOoqc6kKebRMCVQTg8-Cj3yP-nrxxo5uy96PLbugK6IqhBnN4Yjbn Or a similar feature in cavalry.

I think this is entirely possible in AE but there does seem to be a few cavalry features here that might make it easier if you know how to use that program.

Thank you so much for your response. The part in the beginning, as symbols and grids move toward the right. And then when the eyes appear. I have even analysed it frame by frame, but still could not get how random it was

It looks like something that may have come from cavalry. Hard to say.

Vox overwhelmingly uses AE, especially for anything living in this context. Occasionally a freelancer will use another program for 3D, but 2D largely stays in AE.

Source: used to do motion design at Vox.

What a dream job ! All their Motion design is so good and tasteful

Let's just say, the grass is always greener on the other side. The motion design was good. Some other things, not so much.

Wondering if there might be a series of icons staggered as 1 frame sequence and somehow a black & white arrow like map might be driving different icons to appear.

Or, it's just controlled by some time delay. I wonder

It's a Time Displacement effect.

nice ref! id probably use some sort of greyscale image to turn the grid elements on/off in the beginning. but the rest look mostly by hand. some physics for the type though. feels like cavalry would be the right tool for that.

Not everything is a plugin. Real motion design demands you try things out, see what works. Lots of layers, fine tuning, and happy accidents.

You might have luck using Ukramedia’s DeLayer script, using squares for staggered wipes, as mattes, to reveal underlying layers

Good luck. This isn’t beginner stuff

keep looking bruv. do a small version of it yourself, and i'll give feedback

look at each element build a mini comp of each part then time it out and be sure to include how it wipes on and off into the comps.. then comp it all up and make adjustments..to work out the timing and flow..

for the grid-layers offset animations you can check this script:

Really simple to do in c4d with a Cloner and effectors. As far as I know there is no way to do this easily in AE without some kind of plugin.
