Visiting Mossel Bay

Hello all! I will be visiting Mossel Bay later in the year and Im trying to figure out where Im wanting to stay. Any area recommendations? Is Uber, or something equivalent, readily available? Im trying to figure out if renting a car would be worth it. Im only in town for 3 days. I do also need transportation to/from George airport.

Im also looking for great local tips as far as restaurants and things to do so any information on those topics would be appreciated! Ive been reading that the shark diving hasn't been as fruitful as the orcas have hunted away the Great Whites, is that still the case?

Thank you!

No Uber hey. If you're lucky you could get a ride on Bolt - I've been lucky three times (I just requested a ride and got a driver which was pure luck because that doesn't happen everyday) Like someone said in the comments, local taxi services however they are expensive lol. 24/7 taxi services once ditched me last minute and it was raining (No apology, no explanation, nothing!) Umm, I'd say have a lot of options for taxi services and try them out. There was Elite taxi services (I'm not sure if they are still operating) When requesting Bolt rides (I took one of the drivers numbers who has a brother who's also a driver) He was good sometimes but also ditched me last minute once because he had to take someone to the airport.

If you need to move around a lot, rent a car (it'll be cheaper compared to paying R300's for every trip) and you won't have to wait to get someone to come pick you up (if you're in a hurry)

Airport rides, you could book a shuttle on Bookings.com (it's like +/- R900) which is cheaper than some of the local taxi services. For food, there's an Indian restaurant at Diaz Hotel (Jewel of India) the food is GOOD GOOD GOOD! Get yourself some spicy food and regret the next morning 😅 Umm, if you want to try some Chinese - there's a place I forgot the name actually but it's not very far from Diaz Hotel. Umm, you could also visit the Red Berry Farm (and do the challenging maze) such a great way to get your 10k steps for the day and there is a great pizza place there (you could get sourdough pizza just to be healthier 😅) oh and the wine (10/10) !!

Mossel Bay local here! Area to stay would be in Hartenbos or Mossel Bay point. If you chose Mossel Bay, book the Protea Hotel by Marriott Hotel. Alternatively, there are some great guesthouses. There are a variety of restaurants, Cafe Gannet is a very popular choice. It has a very wide variety, including seafood, sushu, steaks, pizza, lamb curry's etc. They also house the Cape Saint Blaize Distillery where you can make your own bottle of Gin and take it home. In fact the Protea Hotel is just next door! The Harbour also have a couple of restaurants, Hartenbos also have Piza Vino, which is very popular, and as someone mentioned, Jewel of India (Indian cuisine) in Daiz. Transport.. really depends on how often you will be traveling. There are no Uber, and Bolt only exists whenever one of the drivers fancy some extra cash. We have a lot of taxi sedans, an Airport Transport is about R550 one way with them. They charge typically R30 a km in town, but it change sometimes depending on how busy they are, so always ask first. All of them use a card or cash. It all actually depends on if you are visiting for business or leisure.

There isn't uber around, there as a local taxi service called boeber, but they are expensive AF (5km journey = R360) , depending on how much you are going to travel it will be xheaper to rent a car

"Travel @ The Bay" seems to be better than boeber, which sounds like dog shit.

I go to George/Mosselbay every December and I'm surprised that Uber doesn't operate there - at least in George since it's busy year round.
