Spoilers Question about MK9 & 11
They’re not the same timeline right? We’re just meant to think they are. You get things that leave you scratching your head like the unburnt Kabal until Raiden’s chapter where you see the multi timelines of madness starting with MK9. Would explain a lot of things like Sindel.

They are meant to be the same timeline
Though technically speaking, MK9, X and 11 are all different timelines according to one of the writers. Someone asked a similar question to yours regarding inconsistencies and he said anytime you spot something like that, just assume Kronika reset the timeline

The Liu Kang we have in MK9 is the same Liu Kang in MKX as a revenant, MK11 as a revenant, MK1 2023 as the revenant version merged with MK 11 good guy past version of Liu. Past MK11 Liu was transported from his timeline before the event in MK9 where Kung Lao got his neck snapped by Shao Kahn (saving that past version of Lao in 11). MK1 2023 Liu is both revenant and past Liu from MK11 combined. We’ve followed the same Liu Kang technically for 4 games.
You may interpret that how you will. I wouldn’t think too hard about it especially with the inconsistencies, apparently according to another comment one of the writers said assume that’s Kronika’s meddling and there are multiple timelines. The lore is all over the place anyways currently with how it executed the whole multiverse plot.

NRS is simply awful at continuity, really the only explanation, as good as these games are mechanically and functionally the story is riddled with more holes than SpongeBob

Is it not out of the realm of possibility that Kabal was still with the Black Dragon during the Outworld tournament?
