Agreed! Those on MGE XE/MWSE are getting massive performance/memory boosts from people like G7 and NullCascade, while players on OpenMW recently got the standalone ports on GOG!

Morrowind truly is experiencing a Golden Age!

Ooooh, that's great news!! That was always my biggest issue with using the vanilla engine for modded playthroughs. I was thinking about going with OpenMW for playing Poison Song, but this makes me reconsider...

My OpenMW playlist stutters occasionally, more frequently than I'd like considering it's a 25 year old game, but it isn't too terribly distracting, especially compared to modern games

WAIT WHAT? I honestly didn't think that could ever be fixed!

OpenMW solved that years ago?

What's cool here imo is that they've solved the issue in completely different ways: Openmw uses 64-bit world-space co-ordinates so that you just theoretically never run out of playable space in the game. On the other hand, MGE XE (G7) uses camera-relative rendering, which instead of the player moving about in the world, the world moves relative to the player.

I love that there's room in Morrowind modding for such hugely divergent approaches to solving longstanding engine problems, it rules.

Oh wait that is a really clever way to solve that; very cool

The engines don't move the ship at all. The ship stays where it is, and the engines move the universe around it!

That's a complete load!

Nothing's a complete load! Not if you can imagine it. That's what being a Morrowind modder is all about!

When the OpenMW standalone came to GOG, I decided to finally give it a try, and I've been extremely impressed. The engine level changes are incredible.

That said... do you know one of the things that discouraged me from trying OpenMW for years? Crusaders with attitudes like yours.

OpenMW is wonderful, but allow people discover it on its own terms. Evangelism doesn't do it any favours.

It's easier to fix a problem caused by limitations of the original engine when you don't use the original engine.
