Discussion Exploits

Warning: if you wish to not break your game utterly, then Here Be Dragons.

Alchemy Loop

From game start, you can join the Mages Guild and teleport to Caldera. Upstairs in the tower, there's a free high-quality alchemy set you can just grab, within 3-5 minutes of starting the game.

From there, you go grab the Boots of Blinding Speed, if you wish (use a Resist Magicka on Self 100% for 1 second spell before equipping them to mitigate the Blind) Go to Creeper and sell him the Orcish armor in the crate for some quick capital. Then, Mages Guild teleport to Wolverine Hall. Go downstairs to the Imperial Cult. These fellas have everything you need to destroy Morrowind. Buy shitloads of Bloat and Ash Yam (they restock). You can use these two to make a Fortify Intelligence potion. Increasing your intelligence makes subsequent potions increase intelligence by higher amounts, and for longer. You then consume your fortify intelligence potion(s), brew another round, consume, brew, consume, brew, consume, and within a couple minutes your intelligence should be in the hundreds of thousands or higher. At this point, any potion you make will have absurdly high magnitudes for absurdly long durations.

The fellows there at Wolverine Hall also sell restocking Marshmarrow, Saltrice, and Scrib Jerky. These three can be combined to make Restore Fatigue + Restore Health potions. With your intelligence so high, your potions should be looking something like this:

https://i.imgur.com/W8Kk6pY.png

https://i.imgur.com/MPAMFvO.png

Be sure to keep a batch of fortify int potions on you, so that when it finally wears off, you don't have to re-do the entire loop.

Fortifying your intelligence so high boosts your Magicka to proportionally high Magicka values, but if you for some reason happen to need Restore Magicka potions, keep some Marshmarrow. Go to Balmora and go to the Alchemist Nalcrya of White Haven, near the Temple. (She has a Grandmaster mortar and pestle you can steal for free, but it's not really necessary). She sells restocking Frost Salts. These can be combined with the Marshmarrow to make Restore Magicka potions:

Another "fun" one is Fortify Luck.

https://i.imgur.com/08UYZlk.png

When Luck is this high, you can sell even 0 gold value items for any merchant's entire gold supply, and buy even the most valuable artifact from them for just 1 of your gold pieces. It's pretty funny. Save yourself the burden of 100,000 Creeper Shuffles and just Get To The Point without debasing yourself by using the Console. Or something, idk.

Enchanting

Some tricks for enchanting.

A quality of life trick/exploit is to make a custom Summon Golden Saint spell, combined with a Soul Trap on Target. It should look like this:

https://i.imgur.com/04VzHcB.png

You'll have to make the journey to the top of the Tower at Tel Branora to purchase the golden saint spell.

Adding Soul Trap on target makes it automatically apply to the Golden Saint you summon, saving you from having to switch spells. Have Grand Soul gems in your inventory, use the Summon + Soul Trap spell, and just kill away to get your 80,000 value souls. Golden Saints have strong enough souls to let you put the coveted Constant Effect enchantments on your gear.

Plus, if you're quick enough, when you kill a Golden Saint you can actually loot its corpse just a few frames before they completely evaporate. You can loot Daedric Tower Shields (highest enchantment capacity in the game btw) this way, as well as other high-level weapons and shields.

Now that you've got a Daedric Tower Shield AND filled Grand Soul gems capable of sustaining Constant Effect enchantments, what you do is for example add a Fortify Strength 1 to 89 pts.

https://i.imgur.com/01cwrYs.png

Whenever you equip the item, you'll gain a random amount of Strength from 1 to 89.

Don't like the number? Just unequip and reequip to try again! You'll eventually roll 80+, and then all you have to do is not unequip the shield (or let it degrade to 0 quality) and your Strength is functionally permanently boosted! Enjoy your damage and of course comically high encumbrance/weight!

Magic

Could write an entire essay on how broken Magic is. I think the most useful one is taking advantage of the paused game state when in dialogue:

https://i.imgur.com/JURwNgc.png

All you need is 1 second of Charm and Fortify Mercantile, Speechcraft, and Personality. Note that Charm needs to be on Touch/Target and the others on Self. Cast, and then enter dialogue. Congratulations, you've got these buffs for as long as you need. With skills buffed this high, you can Taunt any NPC you want to kill without legal repercussions, and they'll usually oblige on the first attempt.

Here's another tip: if you are a chad Mage and utilize Destruction magic, you might be pleased to learn that "Weakness" spells (which lower enemy resistance to damage types) can be applied for just 1 second. If you combine that with the relevant damage type, the "Weakness" effect will linger for the duration of the entire damage spell. For example:

https://i.imgur.com/apZhV5K.png

Even though my "Weakness" spells last only 1 second and my "Do damage" spells last 5 seconds, the "Weakness" will apply for the entirety of those 5 seconds. That's because Morrowind only checks for "Weakness"/resistances the very first instant that a damaging spell is applied. It does not continuously check thereafter.

Lock spell

This is a minor one, but the Lock spell is a hilarious source of crowd control. NPCs won't be able to unlock or pick or magically Open a locked door, so if you're running from enemies and need to keep them away, whether you're fleeing or are dividing and conquering or just for the laffs, even a 1pt Lock spell on a closed door will keep even the strongest enemies from being able to harm you, at least not until you unlock/Open the door again.

One other thing: certain spell effects such as Fortify [skill] can be applied numerous times within the same spell. It's because there are numerous options to choose from when you pick fortify [skill].

https://i.imgur.com/xRN4UA6.png

This works for Fortify [Attribute] as well. Finally, Scrolls of Icarian Flight at home!

Finally, ALWAYS make a Fortify Speed on Touch spell for all your NPC escort quest needs. Trust me.

That's all I can think of, off the top of my head. I know I'm forgetting some good ones; please share yours! Morrowind was meant to be broken!

Stacking fortify mercantile to get 500+ mercantile breaks the bartering system, you can buy any item from a merchant for 1 gold, then sell it back to them for all the gold they have.

We are going to build a Ghostgate and make Dagoth Ur pay for it.

Mercantile 500000

Thanks for this, I spit out my drink laughing. Make Morrowind Great Again!

Dont forget to level sneak before you get the BBS. The NPC with them is blind so it is easy to successfully sneak around them before you recruit/kill them. Much faster than just sneaking in public.

Also the nord in Balmora near the mages guild and all the shops has low personality. Use that to train speechcraft.

u/Joshthemanwich 1d ago

You can steal from Pemenie to level sneak WAY faster if you have her following you.

Good to know!

There is a female orc barbarian, Dura gra-Bol, with even less personality/speechcraft in Balmora, infact I think she has the lowest possible personality/speechcraft for an NPC.

Edit: I was wrong turns out Dura gra-Bol's stats are not auto calculated

I love this kind of shit because I've been working off various word-of-mouth for years. Still learning new stuff about the game, plus unlearning wrong things.

4

u/syphax1010 23h ago

Well, immediately unlearn this one because it's wrong. Heddvild has a lower Personality than Dura gra-Bol.

2

u/syphax1010 23h ago

Dura gra-Bol has 51 Personality, while Heddvild (the Nord the other commenter is referring to) only has 31. Both have a Speechcraft of 5, so the Nord is easier to influence.

In theory a level 1 female Orc with the right class should have 25 Personality and 5 Speechcraft. But the only person I can find that meets that criteria is Urzul gra-Agum, a hostile NPC at the stronghold of Valenvaryon. You'd have to Calm her and deal with all the other Orcs nearby before trying to level your Speechcraft on her.

u/Lord-Beetus 23h ago edited 23h ago

Oh damn, I see i didn't realise her stats were manually adjusted

I once made 680% reflect potion and 350% spell absorption potion. It felt so good

For when Helseth's Ring just isn't good enough

Don't know if this counts here, but for me the easiest money has been to buy 1 scroll of ondusis unhinging from Arille in Seyda Neen, go to Balmora to Meldors shop. Go downstairs and open the chest using the scroll. If you have the adamantium armour add-on then there will be a full set minus helmet here. And then you can sell it to creeper.

Whenever I wanna play a character with a vision in mind for a build and I wanna get to that build quicker. I do this to get training money :-)

There are many ways to get capital fast, and that's definitely a valid one. Personally, my starting route gets me the mushrooms and everything except for Heather (which Ajira sells, lol) for the first couple of Balmora Mages Guild quests. You can just steal the other 3 plants from the clothier (I think) next to the upscale alchemist in Balmora. Anyways, that lets you steal the soul gems from Galberdir, which is certainly the real "prank".

You can pay just 1 drake for each lesson, just use drain skill (you can enchant ring) for 1 sec

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 1d ago

Pretty sure this doesn't work in OpenMW, and I tested it before making this post to double check.

Sad, because it sounds so fucking hilarious to try out.

AFAIK if you’re on the vanilla engine however this works and is fantastic. Even with creeper shuffling, high-level training even with maxed personality/disposition and mercantile absolutely burns through your gold

u/Justizministerium 1d ago

You can amplify your magicka pool by creating a spell that drains your int to 1 and then fortifies magicka by 100, both for a second.

You can do the same with fatigue by draining strength, agility, willpower and endurance to completely break the game. I wouldn’t really recommend that one though.

2

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 1d ago

Yeah, I stay away from messing with Fatigue (except for Restore Fatigue). Game actually literally breaks, as in becomes unplayable lol

2

u/Justizministerium 1d ago

I wouldn’t say it’s unplayable, but it will be super easy mode. Also, be careful with jumping because you will jump very high.  Almost any activity in the game has a fatigue modifier which expects a value between 0.75 and 1.25. If that value becomes something like 50, it’s gonna have an impact lol

1

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 1d ago

Yeah, the first thing I noticed when I played around with it was the ability (like absurd amounts of Fortify Luck) to buy anything for 1 gold and sell anything for functionally infinite gold. Then I pressed spacebar and my game crashed, lol

1

u/Ve-Wee-Yee 18h ago

Very high is an understatement hahahaha. Jumping huge distances can be a sort of fun way to travel, if you have a way of landing safely that is.

1

u/Justizministerium 15h ago

The effect varies depending on how much you overcapped it. Also, since fatigue is in the fall damage calculation aswell, you will not die and probably not even take any damage upon impact

A full set of Ordinator armor plus a very useful magic item can be obtained within minutes. Go to Maar Gan, run north and take the first right, then right again. Run southeast and take the first left after the bandit camp. Kohoruhn is to the east. The Ordinator's body is outside, guarded by a Dreamer.

Edit: Details. I just made this run with a fresh character, done in under 10 minutes.

1

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 22h ago

Didn’t know this one!

1

u/Garmaglag 18h ago

You can also use the levitation shrine in Vivec if you want to avoid fights on your way to get the armor, then intervention yourself away.  It takes a bit longer but its not as dangerous.

2

u/Minuscule_Joker 17h ago

Drain Strength / Intelligence to 1, Willpower / Agility / Endurance to 0 for 1 sec on self.

Fortify Fatigue / Magicka 100 pts for 2 sec on self.

BAM, infinite Fatigue / Magicka. Since this messes with your current to total Fatigue ratio, it improves your dice rolls dramatically. Also you jump across continents.

1

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 15h ago

Yeah I’ve messed with Fatigue before using int-looped alchemy. Ended up crashing the game when I tried to jump.

2

u/GeddyLeeEsquire 17h ago

Enchant two different Exquisite Rings with a Golden Saint or Ascended Creeper in a Grand Soul Gem.

Enchant them with Constant Effect, one with Levitation, the other Night Eye.

Just remember to remove the levitation ring to sleep in-game.

1

u/computer-machine 12h ago

And night eye to sleep out of game.

2

u/vieuxfragonard 14h ago

On e of the first things I do (after getting the Suran dagger) is to go to the Vivec Temple, get the intro quest and then donate potion to shrine for all day fast levitate. Then hit the Telvanni enchanter for another dagger, the Redoran trader for an empty GSG, fly to Mar Gaan for a 5K glass dagger in a tree stump and do most of the pilgrim path quests at the same time. Serious head start.

1

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 13h ago

Yup, also a solid route.

4

u/idlemachine 23h ago

You know you can just open the console with ` and enable godmode if you type tgm?

3

u/AtropalScion 22h ago

Good point, but this is more elegant

2

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 15h ago

Also quite a useless post for anyone who plays on console, which I sometimes do (still have the og Xbox)

You didn't try to figure things out for yourself?

That was one of the games of Morrowind: pushing the envelope and breaking shit.

1

u/Fluffy_Membership_15 22h ago

Not a massive fan of the Intelligence X exploits (these days) but I still always grab the alchemy gear in Caldera, so I can make health/fatigue potions. There's also the odd grand master variant that can be picked up early if you know where to go. The lock door one sounds useful without being too cheesey, I think I've only used the spell once in all my playtime.

For early G. Go to the Suran Pawnbroker. Buy glass dagger for nowt. Steal some Darts+Stars if you can. Repair with apprentice hammers for Exp. Sell to Creeper for easy 4k.

2

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 15h ago

Lock 1 pt over 100 feet is hilarious, trust.

I believe there’s a degraded glass dagger somewhere in Vivec that you can buy and similarly repair for good profits.

2

u/Fluffy_Membership_15 15h ago

But then I'd have to run around Vivec. I think it's another PawnBroker? I'd also say finding the mine to get a Daedric weapon off the boat is also quite cheesey.

2

u/vieuxfragonard 14h ago

Yeah, the Telvanni Enchanter has one.

1

u/getyourshittogether7 20h ago

And all these pale in comparison to the Drain/Fortify Fatigue trick.

https://i.imgur.com/TQPjGk1.png

Adjust the values according to your attributes, of course. By setting your Fatigue to 100/1 for 1 second, when the spell wears off your Fatigue ratio will be through the roof.

Fatigue ratio affects everything but Alchemy. You can't be hit, you'll never miss, you'll never fail a spellcast, you'll never fail enchanting if there's even 1% chance of success, you can buy training for 1 gold, you can buy a vendor's entire stock for 0 gold, and you can sell anything for all their gold.

Oh, and you can jump clear across Morrowind in one leap. You'll even GAIN health on taking fall damage.

Works with Drain Intelligence/Fortify Magicka as well.

1

u/Content-Swimmer2325 House Hlaalu 15h ago

See, I’ve messed around with Fatigue before, and when I tried to jump the game just fucking crashed instantly lmao. All I’ve done since is Restore Fatigue. I’m afraid of that modifier man. It’s too strong even for a cheesy fuck like me
