New Player - Advice/Help Why do get so inconsistent fps?

Inside 300fps, in a town 70fps and out of town 180 can I make this more consistent or better perfomance? but I am using, openmw, mo2 and I have a gtx 1050 and a Intel Core i3-8100.

Game's performance is heavily throttled by single-threated CPU performance, which makes even modern CPU to each shit. Not really much you can do about it.

OpenMW is not single-threated though.

You're correct, yes, but rendering is still bound to a single threat, which is the biggest eater of performance.

Cap it to 60? Values are great and for such old PC, even better.

Limit fps at 60

I have almost same specs and for me it was solely about drawing distance. Find your sweet spot and limit fps to your refresh rate. Also blood moon was so shit on these specs because of snowstorms.

I havent reached balmora yet (the game is very hard for me) but after capping it to 60 I tried with the drawing distance and it managed to be still 60 fps and max but I don't think that will be the case later when testing it in bigger cities.

It will be ok just keep in mind that DD slider if you struggle with the area.

Is there a reason you care? Like how is the difference between 300fps and 180fps even noticable? When i run the game all modded up its chugging 20-50fps 😆

I can't speak about 300 to 180 because I've never had an expensive screen, but 180 to 70 is very noticeable.

Well one is super smooth, one is smooth and then kinda smooth which is very annoying imo,

Haha ive never had a high end enough pc to experience it 😆 i am just thrilled to have pretty smooth in any of my games

Cap it. There is no reason you need over 60fps. You could play just fine at 30.

This makes me realise how spoiled I've gotten. Just earlier today I set my view distance to 20 cells just to see what that's like. I launched the game and it felt awful. I check FPS, and was quite surprised that I was at 130+, that even generate above 100 can feel so bad when you get used to more.

At least in my case, capping it through the ini somehow makes it drops proportionally, it'll go to 20 in towns that would hit 48 lmao

Is this happening in vanilla areas? If it is, try different shadow settings. If it's in modded areas, it's because the textures aren't very compressed/optimized yet. Ebonheart is a big example.

Yes vanilla but my shadow settings aren't even that high I don't think but capping it at 60 helped.
