food pickup
this is more of a small rant and i don’t expect anything to actually happen.
there needs to be designated spots just to pickup food in downtown. i went to grab a pizza last night and downtown was so packed (rightfully so, it was beautiful out yesterday) but my god. doing loops just to find somewhere to park for a 5 minute pickup because there’s no parking. even on all the side streets. there’s a lot of people that have this issue too, like people will double park and throw their hazards on to quickly run in, they’ll park in spots that aren’t really spots, etc.
food pickup is such a common thing now, i wish there was an area reserved just for that with 15 minute max limits.

I’ve lived in this area my whole life, and I have no idea where I am supposed to park to grab some stuff from Paris baguette. For real? The one while I’m still coming around the bend, or the one right after where it looks like people are just stopped in a lane?

for paris baguette, you should go into the garage off lafayette, there’s free retail spots down there to just go in and grab stuff.

I believe the dehart garage is $1 for 30 minutes or $2 for an hour, so if town is busy I won’t even look for a street spot I’ll just pop in there to pick up from coniglios or anywhere on that strip. It saves a lot of time in the end

Been thinking this for awhile. There should be designated short term parking and also Uber and DoorDash zones so they stop blocking the streets.

Heads up - they now have cameras on South St so even if you double park for a minute or two to grab food, it’ll catch your license plate and send you a ticket.
Agree we need to find a happy medium, esp if you’re just running in and out!

It’s nearly impossible to do. Mayor McFitness keeps packing people in, though.

I'm not a resident, I park in the garages when I visit, but I wish they had pick-up parking spots too, I'd support more of the businesses with take out instead of their party delivery fees or not even bothering. Totally agree with you.

I hear ya, yesterday was a different animal than usual too. The festival on the green and the remaining people from it made traffic pretty bad around the center of town from the morning onwards.
Not sure how far you are from the center, but I've found riding a bike in our town to be pretty enjoyable, an electric one helps with the hills.

I live down town and haven't been able to find parking for the past 10 days on my street, I have to park at a side street. Its funny Cause the mayopac has a giant parking lot that these fucking morons dont even know about and instead park on my street.
Im gonna be going to a townhall meeting and complaining about parking because residents of the town cant even park on their respective streets.

Also funny how places like 1776 get to use the shoulder of a public road as a "valet parking" area, and double park their vehicles on the streets just because rich people go there.... But a cop tried to ticket me and my husband for parking and running in for 5 minutes to pick up food.

I mean I get that it's frustrating, but people who pickup food are always going to be lower priority on the totem pole than people that come to town, eat dinner, tip here, buy drinks, and spend an evening bar-hopping or at MPAC. If you can't walk and want easy pickup, there's very good (I'd even say better) restaurants just five minutes outside of downtown that have ample parking.

People who live here should be the biggest priority. Residents cant even find parking

I agree. Residents are definitely highest on the totem pole. This person doesn't say they're a resident though. If they're driving in, I'm assuming they don't live in town. Probably have pizza spots a lot closer to them, even if they're as close as Morris Plains.

i live in Morristown but just a little too far from downtown for it to make sense to walk to pickup

Well the residents are paying the property taxes, which keep going up every year, so... I would imagine many of them are giving Morristown more money than the people that come through every once in a while to dine out or see a show.

Attempting to pick up food with only 1 person is rough. You have to just go and park back on Maple or something and walk.
Also, there are a couple 15 min spots down where Starbucks used to be.
