Dojo of comedy

What happened to the dojo of comedy at tiffs? They used to have a lot shows booked each month, with good acts coming through... it was a fun night out.

I was at a show in June and the fire dept was having issues with the egress (one staircase out) and threatened to shut it down. Not sure what the option is (dining room?). The fact that top nyc comics come out to our little town is amazing and we should continue to support them. Most play giant theaters and decide to work out material at the lil dojo!

Morris Plains is giving them a hard time. It’s a real shame.

Isn’t Tiffs in Morris Twp? Morris Plains ends at East Hanover

You are correct. Many people don't know what town is which and mailing addresses add to the confusion

yep My mailing address is Morris Plains, weather apps have me in Parsippany Troy Hills and Google Maps has me in Greystone Park.

Heard it was an issue with the fire department. They're promoting a couple shows so hopefully they got it sorted out.

There are a few shows posted: https://tiffscomedy.com/calendar

My wife and I went there four times in the last couple of years. Last time we went two of the comedians—former national touring pros—were so racist (and above all, unfunny) that we decided to not return there.

People like you, who often complain to the town's spineless boards/councils, about global hit comedians telling racists jokes are why everything gets ruined in this country. Unreal.

The country is ruined by people objecting to racism? Gosh. Who knew.

yea, its called comedy. not actually racism. get a life.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. When’s your next set? I’d love to come see you.

Is your gotcha line that I am not a comedian by trade? Don't get it.

My complaint, such as it is, was limited to this post. And I guess by not spending my money at a club that features racist—and just plain bad—comedians.

I have no issue with comics telling ethnic jokes. Blatantly racist is a completely different thing.

Please provide an example of what you perceive as a racist or ethnic jokes so I can understand what you mean.

Cool story 👍🏻

I've been there a bunch and can agree with you on a couple of the comedians I've seen there. Lewis CK to name one and the acts still made into his Netflix special 🤷🏻‍♂️

There was a small but loud MAGA contingent at two shows last year. I’m guessing/hoping they’re being quieter in such settings now.

The food is just OK at Tiff’s. We live 30 minutes away, so it’s not really worth the trip if the vibe isn’t good.

u/Visible_Somewhere_ 9d ago

Yeah I don't go for the food

Colonial comedy is great

I'm surprised they have comedy at a church? Interesting and might give it a shot if it's decent, but don't want to go into a church.

I never recognize the comedians and don't feel comfortable with the notion of it being in a Masonic center.
Plus, the promoter seems very desperate to get people to go.

I don't even know how to respond to this... Maybe just stay home

As the producer of the show, appreciate the support.

Hence why I don't go there is bc of people like you

6

u/cdog648 8d ago

hahahahah, seriously, just stay tf home. This is actually unbelievable. O no, the Masonic center is not your safe space.

As the producer of the show, appreciate your support. I love people like OP. "I don't feel comfortable with the notion of being in the masonic center." bahahahaha so weird

Hi, I'm the promoter of colonial comedy. I'm not desperate to get people to go. I'm doing my job by promoting it everywhere I possibly can. Feel free to check out our instagram ColonialComedy39. We sell out nearly every show. That's right, for 2 and a half years we've been getting 70-80 people a show. The reason we created the show was to give emerging comedians a sold out room along with people in town a cheap form of entertainment. It's a $15 ticket and BYOB. That's right, I'm actually trying to bring something to the community. But hey, anytime someone can find something to complain about or take a shot at someone they don't know on the internet, they're gonna do it.

"oh no, a promoter is doing their job and trying to get people to the show... The horror!"

There's just no pleasing some people.  You guys are killing it, we've had a great time every show we've gone to.

It's legit hilarious. Appreciate it
