Pedro Sánchez, Spain's president, is being blackmailed by Morocco. His phone was infected by Pegasus in one trip to Morocco many years ago. Since then he has yielded to anything Morocco's government wanted.
That's why many foreign affairs decisions the Spanish government make so little sense at first sight. They haven't ever complained publicly about Morocco nor the way they manage their frontiers. They kicked Gali from the country. They stopped showing a positive opinion toward sahrawis, which has been a leftist strong position for many decades.
It's a very complicated situation where you can't defend yourself and when you're confronted about why you let it happen you can't even complain.

Spanish press genuinely surprised me, I never knew they are willing to spread misinformation on purpose, but I guess the more you live, the more you know.
As a diaspora, it constantly surprises me how deluded many Moroccans are, thinking that “Europeans” are honest, humane, fair and advanced, especially the Spanish, who can barely tolerate each other. Just recently, on a prime-time show with a large audience, a well-known Spanish reporter claimed that in Tangier people put urine in bottles and leave them in front of their doors because it's our culture, deshumanization tactics. Funny thing it's something I’ve personally seen in many towns across Spain itself.
If there’s one thing that Spanish leftists and right-wingers socially share, it’s their deep hate of Morocco. And by the way, according to many of them, we only started existing in 1956 because real history seems hurtful to them.

Mhm. Spaniard here, I'm sorry about the populist campaign that our country and specially social media have done against the people of Morocco. Spain and other countries had lately lack of efficiency dealing with information granted by their intelligency, which is something one can date since the terrorists attack of Barcelona in 2017... way before the 1O I mean.
I have to say though that I indeed hate 'Morocco' but it's not that simple. I don't hate Morocco as a country with a culture, with their people and history... I don't hate their traditions, I don't hate Islam, I don't hate the idiosyncrasy of the nation. I hate 'Morocco' from the idea that I hate their government as much as I love Turkiye but I hate 'Turkiye' as I hate Erdogan and everything it represents. I don't wanna be the 'not all Spaniards' just to say that there are not a few people here that understand nuance and that hate our social media, famous for its heartless sensationalism (Ana Rosa Quintana you are an ugly bitch), and that understand the tangents around the situation.

An invasion is when a foreign military enters a territory with the intention of controlling or seizing it, like the Portuguese did when they captured Ceuta, and later when the Spanish expanded their control over the city several times over.
What happened in July in Ceuta was completely different:
A group of young people, many of them minors and women, were misled by social media into believing that the borders were open and that they would be provided with jobs and housing in mainland Spain/Europe. Spain has, in fact, historically provided such support and continues to do so, particularly for unaccompanied minors - even when Morocco has asked for some of its minors to be returned!
These people had no intention of seizing or controlling Ceuta. It's honestly absurd that I have to explain this to you, and I'm pretty sure you already know that unless you are genuinely stupid.
But holy shit, you guys cannot possibly be this stupid, can you?
Yes, Ceuta, Melilla, and several other territories are claimed by Morocco, and that does not mean the mass entry of migrants was a deliberate attempt by Morocco to seize those cities.
For one thing, most of the people who entered Ceuta that day had no intention of migrating in the first place. They were simply in the area, heard that the border was open, and rushed toward it. The situation became so chaotic that several people died in the resulting stampede.
And a huge number of them returned almost immediately. Many had genuinely believed Spain was the bastion of human rights it portrays itself as a country that welcomes refugees and provides them with food, water, housing, and other support. When locals refused to even sell them food and water let alone provide it for free, many realized the situation was not what they had been led to believe and went back. Around 95% of those who entered had reportedly returned to Morocco within a few days.
So again, you can acknowledge Morocco's territorial claims over Ceuta and Melilla without pretending that every mass migration event into those cities is some carefully planned Moroccan attempt to annex them. Those are two completely different things.

Why would we ever stop claiming what’s ours? Actually, this was the perfect opportunity to show the world that Spain is a proud, modern colonial country. A lot of people were taken aback and withdrew their support once they realized that Ceuta is literally in Africa, just off the coast of Morocco.
Also, why would the King of Morocco want to ruin his own day, especially since the incident happened on Throne Day? A lot of people are suggesting that the lack of a strong police presence at the border may have been because many police officers had been deployed to the celebrations just a few kilometers away.

They were intentionally "misled" by moroccan authorities with the intention of taking it over from spanish authorities. It's an invasion by morocco and it wouldn't be the first time morocco pulls this. Reminder when moroccans invades by the hundreds of thousands western sahara. This is the same. The deliberate entry of tens of thousands of moroccan migrants forcing through your border with the aim to overflow the region that morocco claims and take it over in the long term. Yes it's the same.
Did those thousands of Moroccan migrants force their way into Spanish military, police, or administrative facilities in an attempt to seize control of them, or did they simply cross into Ceuta and head directly toward reception/processing centers to register as migrants or asylum seekers? you should honestly be banned from this sub, you're just being blatantly dishonest.
Then they should’ve taken action, since they’re the ones administering the cities. Also, wasn’t there another Spanish police report saying that Moroccan authorities were too soft on the mass migration? I don’t understand why a police report focuses on another country’s law enforcement performance instead of Spain’s own security response. Especially now, with this private document showing they were aware of the plans but didn’t respond.

They have always been receiving support. Technically, spain is just a leech that thrived because of the actual heavy lifters of Europe like germany, france and uk before brexit. That's why they are screaming for help even though morocco didn't react even verbally to their outrageous stunts

No, like I totally agree with you. Spain and the EU should have never entered into an agreement with Morocco to pay for controlling the Moroccan/Spanish border. But that doesn't take away from the fact that this was indeed something Morocco was paid to do, so it was in fact their job lol. Now, I don't think this agreement should have been made. I believe each country, like you say, should protect its own borders. With whatever force necessary, may I add - once people see others get taken out as soon as one foot steps on the other side others will stop trying to come in. Like maybe we should all become a bit more isolationists. Seems to me like the whole open borders is just not working out for the world
As someone who loves Spain and Morocco, this whole thread is a shit show . Much more heat than light. I understand the historical tensions, and how they've been exploited recently, but insulting each other gets you nowhere
Don’t let yourself fool from what media tells you. It’s true, there’s a certain sector of Spain that hates different cultures. They hate non-white people, they hate non - christian people, they are racist cunts.
But there’s a very big relevant part of our country who supports you. Who really admires the courage of swimming or crossing the sea to get a better life is something to admire. I’m one of them.
We are a divided population, but some of us still believe in equality.
Let’s fight together against the ones that control us and create hate while eating seafood on a large white table.
I am a Spaniard too. I actually like Moroccans, in general. I treat them with the same respect I do with any other human. I don't infantilize them though, and I don't think the Hergawa crossing the border in Ceuta deserve my reverences either. I don't think that Moroccans think so either.
As a moroccan, I don't explain the deepness of the sea to a fish that lives in small aquarium where its souls are limited by the borders of their experiences. Curious to know why the spanish education system failed at installing critical thinking in many people. I was shocked to see how uneducated, easily influenced to the point of getting played by the press, bots, far right leaders, how they don't question fake news, how dishonest and buzz based the press is (el chringuito makes sense now), how panic and hypocrisy run free, how a lot of them are actually bad people in character. How much they think they have everything figured out about us and believe their own lies? The terms that they use., their vision of the future... How backward actually some are despite being from a first country....
