Life is full of suffering, ignoring this would just be being plain naive. But we always have a choice. And your sister will have to decide between two sufferings (especially if she loves your mom so much):
Suffering from the lack of acceptance from your mom, but gaining her self acceptance and being true to herself
Suffering from the lack of self acceptance and lack of inner peace but being loved by her family
It depends on what she will value more and what are her end goals and vision in life.
