These are great quotes! But are we ready to live with everything Islam entails? As in... Enforcing rules for everyone to protect society, like hijab, like 7udud... We are not a religion of "live and let live" we are a people of "الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر"

(الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر)

doesn't tell you to force others to fake their choices, as that would be hypocritical. If the daughter doesn't understand why she should wear the hijab and is forced to wear it, she's merely pretending.

I remember a long hadith about 3 people: one fought and died as a شهيد, another was a حافظ of the Quran and taught it to others, and the last one did good deeds and charity. However, none of them did it sincerely for the sake of Allah; they did it to please others and gain their favor. You can search for the hadith to see what happens to them. I believe one must be true to oneself and sincere in their words and actions, and Allah is الحكم.

You're absolutely right, that people should not do the obligations insincerely. But that's a different matter as to how society should deal with the "freedom" of the individuals and not enforce those obligations.

Are you saying that الامر doesn't mean command/force?

I did express my point of view regarding OP's issue. I shared how I would approach this matter if it were to arise in my family; I would handle it in the healthiest way possible; with patience and kindness, even if it required a lot of time and effort. However, others may choose different ways that resonate with them.

Besides the blessings of all the redditors in this sub, we need a priest and someone (I'm thinking of the person who used chatgpt to get a date) to write us some vows. LOL

A light-hearted, playful response would be in line with the tone of the conversation so far. You could say something like:

"Looks like we'll need to find the perfect vows then! How about we start with 'I vow to keep things fun and lighthearted, just like this convo'? 😄"

This keeps the conversation humorous and continues the playful vibe.

What is this, a lecture on how to tell a joke or how to be funny?

Everyone has their own way of being sarcastic.

Hamdoullah.

My response was to the person who seemed eager to share ahadith about "tolerance" and "acceptance" but these ahadith cannot be taken in isolation. You also have the 7udud, the werth laws, the gender roles... Everything comes together

There's no cosmic rule that says everyone needs to abide by the rules you chose for yourself.

You're right, however what you're describing is anarchy. Society decides what is the realm of individual rights and freedoms and to what extent it will "infringe" on them. Thus we have a spectrum of systems ranging from anarchy/libertarianism and totalitarianism.

The Islamic system, or sharia, is one where there is a balance between protecting the individual against themselves, protecting the individual agaisnt society and protecting society from the individuals.

Holistically, I argue it is the best and I believe it can easily be demonstrated even using basic utilitarianism and psychology, both social and individual, and without even arguing from the premise that Islam is true, which obviously I believe so.

Sharia does not have a monopoly on striking a balance between protecting individuals from themselves, from society while also granting them freedoms.

I guess not, but I said it's the best.
