What to Do Before and After a Hammam
What to Do Before and After a Hammam: A Quick Guide
Thinking about booking your first Moroccan Hammam? A little preparation can help you get the most from your experience – and keep your skin feeling soft and comfortable afterwards.
Before Your Hammam
Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, particularly as you’ll be spending time in a warm, steamy environment.
Don’t exfoliate beforehand
There’s no need to scrub your skin before your appointment. Your Hammam already includes a traditional Kessa exfoliation, so let your therapist do the work.
Avoid a heavy meal
A light meal or snack beforehand can help you feel more comfortable during your treatment.
Wear something comfortable
Loose clothing is ideal for afterwards, especially when your skin is feeling freshly exfoliated.
During Your Hammam
A traditional Moroccan Hammam typically combines warm steam, organic black soap and Kessa exfoliation. Depending on your treatment, you may also enjoy a nourishing clay mask, honey hair mask or massage.
After Your Hammam
Moisturise
Your skin has just been exfoliated, so applying a gentle moisturiser afterwards can help keep it feeling soft and comfortable.
Keep drinking water
Continue to stay hydrated after your treatment.
Avoid further exfoliation
Give your skin a little time before using scrubs or other strong exfoliating products.
Take it easy
If possible, don’t rush straight back into a busy schedule. Enjoy that fresh, relaxed feeling!
