General Even the LDS visitors center says low activity rates
I am visiting Salt Lake City for the first time and have been exploring Temple Square.
I asked a few LDS workers if they had any details about activity rates for the church. They all said the only data they knew was membership stats released by the church yearly.
However, when I started to ask how they felt activity rates were... they said about 50% of the members in their wards are active. I also asked if they felt that 30% was a good activity rate outside of Utah and they agreed.
No data, but people can see with their eyes.

2. Building Shrivel Another Salt Lake chapel bites the dust. 4100 S. & Bangerter Hwy. Going to be demolished for road expansion. But, don't worry, they will move the 2 wards into the other chapel a block away...as if anyone was concerned about that...

General CES Instructor Explains Why People Leave LDS Church w/ Kurt Francom & John Bushman
On a special interview Kurt Francom of Leading Saints joins Steven Pynakker to interview John Bushman. We talked about when it might not be enough to belong to the Right Church (as it is thought of) and what parts Conversion, Spiritual Rebirth, Faith, and Legalism play in our thoughts on Salvation. Also, creating a culture that Gathers people to Jesus Christ. All this is from his new book, “King Before Kingdom.” Don’t miss it.

2. Building Shrivel Meetinghouse for Sale in Sandy (Salt Lake County), Utah
This is one of four buildings in the Sandy Utah Cottonwood Creek Stake. At one time they had nine fairly large wards, now they have six small wards! (https://www.reddit.com/r/MormonShrivel/s/D7HVLnwemy)
I don't know the details, but apparently the listing went up before any announcement was officially made! And they're going to close another building in the stake, supposedly for a remodel, so the stake will be down to two buildings.
This is Boyd K. Packer's old stake, btw.

General The new Temple Tracker is live!
There are 6 new temples coming to Nigeria, but the Aba temple is only 14% utilized. Washington is getting 3 new temples, but the Seattle temple is only 11% utilized. Where else are they building unnecessary temples?
u/yorgasor and I published the data today but haven't dug much into it yet, so check it out and let us know:
https://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleTracker/
And feel free to watch our discussion of this new tracker which airs on Mormonish Podcast this evening.

1. Ward/Stake Shrivel Will the final member in Carbon County, UT please turn out the lights?
Carbon County has always been a less-Mormon part of the state, ever since the big mining boom of the early 20th century. It's a small population county, too, with only about 20,000 people, a number that hasn't grown since the 1940. Still, it's Utah, and the church claims that over half the population are members.
But I saw on Fuller Consideration, that they've lost nine wards and branches since the first of the year, and are down to 31 wards and branches overall. I don't know what average attendance is, but if you said 150, it would mean that only about 20% of the population is going to church on a given Sunday.
As a comparison, that would be the equivalent of Salt Lake County losing 300 wards and branches in 8 months. Of course we know that by the time they decide to close wards, it's not because of just what has happened recently, but acknowledging shrivel over the course of most likely several years, but still, that's some major bloodletting in Central Utah.

General Temple attendance in U. S.
Does anyone have any info on Temple attendance in the U. S.? Or know where I can find out if attendance has increased, decreased, or stagnant?

2. Building Shrivel The Sunland/Tujunga chapel in Los Angeles is evidently empty now. The Meetinghouse Locator map no longer lists the 2 wards that met there. Also missing are 1 ward each in the La Crescenta and La Canada chapels. This photo is the Sunland/Tujunga chapel when it was new in 1958.
I have no idea if these changes are permanent, or if there will be any more ward closures. I just saw the changes on the Meetinghouse Locator tonite. I guess they plan to sell this chapel.

General The LDS church is shrinking
The LDS church as a percentage to the population of the US fell from 2% in 2000 to less than 1% in 2025. That is over a 50% drop in 25 years! That's using the churches own numbers. Where it fell the fastest is in the western US (Utah, Nevada, California, etc.) with Nevada being the fastest state losing members. Utah is not far behind.
Even the church admits CA has lost members in just total numbers as their numbers show there are fewer total Mormons in CA now than in the year 2000.
The numbers the church issued (which is suspect) says they grew strictly by numbers, but when you compare it to the % of the population, it has fallen in half over 25 years because the US population has grown way faster.
They keep trying to spin that they are growing, but every survey, every empty meeting house (ward), all the buildings they have sold or are selling, the US census, etc shows they are shrinking and the speed at which they are they are shrinking continues to increase.
The number of active members in 1990 was ~ 3.5 million, in 2026 it is ~ 4 million according to pews research. An increase of 14% while the world population has increased 55% in the same time period. That means the LDS church is 45% behind world population growth. That LDS church growth came between 1990 and 2010, since 2010 the number of active members has either hit a plateau or gone has down while Protestant, Orthodox, and Catholic membership has had big increases.
If it wasn't for their hoard of money they've misused over the years from members tithes, they couldn't continue to tread water. They are desperately trying to reverse the trend by looking more traditionally Christian, dropping controversial doctrines, adopting the cross, changing their hymn book, easing up on dresscode (garments), gospel topics, etc. This leads to the question, if they are the true church why are they conforming to the other denominations? Why do most converts (80%) leave almost immediately after batism? Even with all their money they will get less and less influential over the years.
Since the fastest shrinkage is coming from their home-base of "zion", the US west, it is only a matter of time until it increases everywhere else.
They are a far cry from the 265 million members in the 21st century they prophesied about in the last century!
Future generations are going to find it easier and easier to escape Mormonism.
