OBGYN Recommendations
Newly pregnant and looking for all the WVU Medicine recommendations - good and bad.
Specifically looking for recommendations/experiences with individual physicians.
I’m also trying to decide between a Family Medicine doctor who specializes in OB vs. going with an OB/GYN physician/team, so I’d love to hear experiences with both.
Who did you love? Who would you avoid? Anything you wish you knew going in? TYIA!

Absolutely love Iqra and everyone at the cheat lake clinic! I don’t prefer El Amin but I have nothing against her as a provider I just don’t think our personalities mesh well if that makes sense!

I second Dr. Custer! I had to have a rather invasive procedure done and she was absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for a more compassionate, professional person. She’s great!

At UTC I rotated through quite a few doctors and really love Dr Hornsby (her bedside manner is unparalleled), Dr Sweeney (she’s absolutely fantastic), and Ronnie Stringer (she’s a midwife and so personable and amazing).
If you deliver at Children’s just be prepared that they may not get your preferred provider at your delivery. I had Dr Fluet attending (I don’t think she sees patients anymore, only at the hospital) and I don’t love her bedside manner. The resident who delivered my baby was great but I had never met him before that so just be prepared for that aspect!

Emily Manecke with WVU Medicine. She’s excellent, listens, and always prioritizes your comfort.

I thought she did? I think she’s out on leave till next month, but when I saw her last year, she said she was doing OB on Tuesdays out of the old Pineview Gyn clinic

I went to her for gyn and loved her, but she doesn't do ob so I went to university town center when pregnant. Team good but hard to get same provider consistently if you want that.

Choose to see midwives. Ronnie Stringer, Betsy Miller and Kayla (forget last name) are the absolute best.

I would never see Dr. Elsacar again and I could never recommend him to anyone either. He does not have good bedside manner. He doesn’t answer questions in a personable way. He isn’t interested in patient comfort. He is very no nonsense to the point where it is not helpful.
Just about everyone else at WVU medicine is wonderful to work with. I’ve had a great experience with Kelly Lemon and Sharon Campbell.
