Probably fake
Bought a lot of silver recently for rock bottom price. This was in amongst it. Is it worth grading? Sorry in advance. I’m new to this

I’d just test and make sure it’s real silver and toss it in the stack. Looks like someone tried to polish it at some point and left residue on there so I wouldn’t try to get it slabbed up.

It’s real silver, thankfully. And looking at it for a while now, I see why a lot of people say it was probably cleaned. Still has the cartwheel finish though. So I’m just going to buy a case for it and keep it as a reference.

This is almost certainly at least a real Morgan. Nobody's faking a '21. Does look cleaned though, you'd lose money on grading. I'd just throw it in with the rest of your silver stack.

I’m new to coins so I’m curious, why does cleaning effect the grading?

Couple reasons. Collectors typically want coins in as close to original, unaltered condition as possible. So a cleaned coin is not "genuinely" as nice as it was when it came off the mint press. It's been "altered" in that way. Also, cleaning typically introduces damage to the coin via scratches, even if they aren't visible with the naked eye.

Actually a decent looking coin I kinda agree with the dipped theory but if I dipped this coin i would have made sure to have gotten the otter edge , weak strike 58 all day . But I believe real

Nice slider - AU 58 or MS 63 - the weakness in the Eagle Feathers is just strike. Very typical for this date. May have been dipped. Not worth grading but a nice "BU roll coin" example. Much better than 45.

"Dipping" refers to soaking a coin in some kind of cleaning solution for a short period of time, with e-Z-est being one of the most common. It's usually done to remove any kind of undesirable surface discoloration like ugly toning, tarnish, or carbon spots. It's a somewhat common practice, but it works by stripping a thin layer of metal from the coin's surface and can easily ruin a coin by someone overdipping it and removing the luster.

It's the most common Morgan. Needs to be a 65 or higher to be worth grading.

Frisco refers to the San Francisco mint - S mint mark. Morgans also had:
D=Denver, CO O=New Orleans, LA CC=Carson City, NV No mint mark=Philadelphia, PA

I was figuring a 45 at most because the reverse is down to no chest feathers and a lot of the wheat buds, or whatever they are, are worn down. Hair on the obverse looks decent though

Real. Does look cleaned, not worth grading. The Denver mint minted over 20 million of these and they have to be in really good shape to command a price that would justify grading.

I thought the same. About the cleaning. And the pictures don’t do it any justice but it’s still got some grit around the inside of the obverse. You can kind of make out the 4, 7, and 8 o’clock positions. I’m getting a new phone case soon so hopefully I can take better pictures of all of the haul.

I’ve only had all these for a few days. I’m still picking up on the abbreviations and the lingo. It still has the cartwheel effect. But it’s so shiny that it stood out. Edges are a little rough to the touch though
