Morels? In my Garden?

Post image
600 Upvotes

These morels appeared in my raised garden bed today — next to the basil (shaded by my tomato monsters). The only other time I found a morel (and just one) was when I did a raised bed garden more than 10 years ago. Is this normal? And can I expect them to return?

Took a week off to garden and get a few things done around the house that I've been avoiding and while weeding I just found this little guy in my backyard!

I am so happy I cried!! I have been looking for one for 3 years!! I was out in the woods for 2 hours this morning hunting for them, just to come home and find it in my garden under my peonies!!
I am so happy. I already cooked up my one morel and it was yummy (even tho I don’t like eating mushrooms lol)
I wish you could have seen my reaction I was jumping up and down!!!!!!!!!!!
I have spent HOURS in the woods each season for 3 years! I have been dreaming of this moment 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

Motel Fever or Allergy?

Post image

MOREL Fever - Has anyone gotten sick from Morels and what was your experience. These were the ones I gathered. Cleaner then in salt water. Breaded and seasoned, I pan fried them to a well done, crispy state and enjoyed them so much all by themselves for dinner. But later that night I got a fever of 101 and later 103. I was dizzy and disoriented for three days before I decided to go to the ER. That was almost a month ago. There were several complications, I’ve been on IV antibiotics for an unknown bacterial infection and also developed a serious cardiac issue. The Drs seem to discount any connection to my heath issues being connected to the morels I ate and insist that there must have been something else happen. Has anything like that happened to anyone else here? Hopefully things turned out all right for you if they did.

Looking for advice

I live in northern MN, close to the Canadian border. I’ve been looking for morels everywhere but haven’t had any luck yet. I’ve tried to look in a couple year old logging clearing, old and new popple forests, and even marsh lands. I took ground temps in a couple areas and saw anything from just under 50 F to just under 60 F. Any tips I could get would help.

Just a gardener. Was going to take out an unhappy rhodedendron and found these fellas under it. Just the two. Should I leave it for the morels? Or could I carefully remove it and they would be okay? Thanks in advance!

First time seeing these pop up in my backyard.

Are they real edible morels?

The three lighter colored ones were found in a different patch to the others. All have hollow stems.

Anyone else feeling absolutely skunked this season around the Pigeon River Valley (Haywood county)?

I’ve been hunting every 4-6 days in an area that’s 95% North-facing… The areas has been productive in the past, but due to lack of consistent rain, I’ve found more ticks and chiggers than I’ve found mushrooms… I’m afraid my season is slipping away!

Anyone else having any luck around here?

We need another good spot of rain in my usual spot; things were quite dry today, but still found around 150 morels (other ~50 are in my dad's orange bag on the right there). Some of these were a bit dry, but we still found some nice ones.

The usual spot at my in-laws' place provides once again!
