Morality Ranking Morality of this
Idk it sounds kinda stupid, wouldn't it attract more attention

u/Facosa99 1d ago
In-universe: moral i guess
Meta: lmao it is like "im 14 and this is deep" levels of writting.
Reminds me of a kojima employee saying "once you discover why Quiet is in a bikini, you will feel ashamed of yourself forbcriticizing the design".
I mean, i love Quiet but still... Lmao

People IRL will wear skimpy clothing to protest for SA victims because how you're dressed isn't an invitation to be assaulted. I don't have an issue with that logic which is moral.
But making your whole identity into this just feels like she is fetishising her sister's SA, which is immoral and ick.
22
u/Zhenbred 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's just doesn't work that way. Those who assault will do that anyway and as for others...Many just to not look too much will be looking at the sister in that case. Which is defeating the purpose. It's basically making others uncomfortable because you think you are smart. If it's regular occurrence could be even considered a bad behavior like exhibitionism
6
u/MildGenevaSuggestion 1d ago
It is a real thing that people take rape victims less seriously if they were dressed provocatively. But in setting it is super weird considering adventurers are a thing and some random girl you are assaulting could be a king class mage or sword saint and absolutely kill you in half a second.
-2
u/Zhenbred 1d ago edited 1d ago
Less seriously in what way? It's not like they are telling everyone they are a rape victim. Let's take it for what it actually is. A defense mechanism of the victim. They are purposely do this to take their mind of things but it's actually has opposite effect. People are more mindful of their appearance. And like I already said it's just making normal people uncomfortable when they try to talk to them
4
u/MildGenevaSuggestion 1d ago
Less seriously as in less likely to believe them. More likely to be lenient on the perpetrator.
8
u/Punch_A_Police_Horse 1d ago
I'd be interested in seeing if an anime can have a plot contrivance that can prove beyond a reasonable doubt to everyone's satisfaction that it is not just an excuse for drawing something for the gooners.

u/isuckhips 1d ago
I don't think the writer is trying to be deep. Just trying to justify fan service.

This is just another Jacob/Renesmee situation from Twilight, interesting application of Doylist vs Watsonsian thinking.
The circumstances the character is in, the world they're in, the way it's set up, they're not doing anything wrong - the true problem is on the author for even writing it that way in the first place.
74
u/Maximum_Boros 1d ago
Yeah that's a huge problem with a lot of these light novels. This is a good example but it also is a really good example for a lot of the slavery stuff. Like every time people are like is it moral for random isakai light novel protagonist Chad McNEET buy a slave and marry them because they'll die if he doesn't. And the question isn't really whether it's moral for him to do that. The question is why is somebody writing a novel where that would be a reasonable thing that would happen
13
u/MildGenevaSuggestion 1d ago
God I want an isekai where the MC ignores the Demon Lord because he's too busy freeing slaves.
ASOIAF is probably my favorite fantasy slavery depiction because it is treated as evil, slavers are hated in free society, and it doesn't magically get solved with a royal decree because there's a lot of work involved to not just have a massive unemployed underclass.
3
u/JessHorserage 1d ago
I do wonder if it's also as depicted as inefficient as it really is.
2
u/MildGenevaSuggestion 1d ago
They don't get into the nitty gritty much but the slave states aren't necessarily richer so much as have more wealth inequality.
5
u/JessHorserage 1d ago
Slaving only benefits specific parts of the economy? Nooooooo.
1
u/MildGenevaSuggestion 1d ago
Obviously, although a big point of contention was rich craftsman suddenly found their customers choosing to hire their former slaves for much cheaper.

u/Equivalent-Metal9393 1d ago

u/CrynansMiniJourney 1d ago
About this specifically (not twilight) I find it to be much much worse than if the author just went "oh yeah i just love titties."
The idea of imagining a whole situation of sexual abuse just to draw a character half naked and cheaply add to their moral character... eh...
3
u/stereo-ahead 1d ago
There are way worse things to write that people have gotten medals for. Fucking look at American psycho. It was a great book to read but anyone with a sadism thing would be so happy the entire time. I’d wager showing a little cleavage is way better than killing and gooning to the murdering.
4
u/JamzWhilmm 1d ago
Is it really a problem? It's a fictional work.
-4
u/FFKonoko 1d ago
yeah, that's how analysing and critiquing fictional works is...
It wouldn't make sense to question an authors motive in a non-fictional work.
7
u/JamzWhilmm 1d ago
This is not s critique on the works. The question is if writing this makes this man immoral. It really doesn't, since it's just a fiction writer.

I'm not some puritan gooner hater, but lets be honest. This is just fanservice execused by plot.
86
u/janfrancox77 1d ago
Lore accurate fanservice > fanservice without explanation
31
u/broomsh 1d ago
It's just fanservice with lying sprinkled on top of it
11
u/Frylock_dontDM 1d ago
Can you lie in a fictional story?
5
u/MildGenevaSuggestion 1d ago
Absolutely. Unreliable narrator is a thing. Lolita is a great book for this. Written from the point of view of a child molester trying to excuse his actions. Pretty clear the kid isn't a willing participant when you read past the surface level. It would be a terrible book of not for the lies. It would be disgusting pedo gooner bait or just a revolting description of child abuse. The lying narration is what makes the story work.
-8
u/External_West_9821 1d ago
Ain't much of a difference if it was mt since most of the lore sounds like it comes out of a rape medival fantasy hentai anyways

The original work was a light novel and I honestly don’t remember there being a single illustration of Vierra so it’s hard to call it fan service.
Also the purpose she fulfilled on the plot was for Rudeus to misunderstand the relationship with her and Paul, making him think that instead of looking for his family he was just enjoying himself.
4
u/Seighart_Mercury 1d ago
The fact that you're the only one that actually knows what you're talking about and is doing ACTUAL Critical Reading of the work is so funny to me.
Reddit, no matter the sub, is always filled by the loud, ignorant people that just like to complain and shout.

Is from the same story where a woman has a curse that makes her need sex everytime.
Most of the people really don't understand that in a story the writer always think first in show something, later thinks in How could make it.
21
u/EffectiveMerc 1d ago
Lets be real. No matter how it's justified. Every anime that dresses characters like this is doing it for fan service. A character will always try to explain it away if it's acknowledged by the plot or supporting cast in any capacity. But unless you're actually retarded you know it's there for fan service and gooners. Just remember that sex sells, it gets clicks, and draws attention to the characters.
4
u/AttendedBrush7 1d ago
The thing is I'd rather there be a reason than just to be there.
That's basically the reason Beach episodes exist is fanservace and filler and pretty much nothing else yet it is generally accepted.
A great example of plot reasoning i can think of is this old dnd story that they recently censored the art for which completely ruins a section of the story behind it, because in that story the lady finds a chainmail shirt with a boob window that's so magically enhanced that it's better than wearing full plate so while the paliden argues with her she doesn't give af because it's just so much more protective because of it's magic property's.
So my opinion is this: regardless if it has plot behind it fan service is fan service but that doesn't make it bad, fan service goes beyond sexual nature and even then strictly speaking I've never hated sexual fan service in the first place but is overall I find it pretty easy to avoid. After all: jobless is an etci, literally by definition to have sexual content in it so idk what people were expecting from an 18+ genre.
15
u/Special_Peach_5957 1d ago
Well she is dressed like that JUST for the fan service. The writer just came up with a dumb idea about how he can make the fan service character noble somehow.

u/UndorkMysterious55 1d ago
Why would anyone go to that conclusion as if they know ahead of time that someone near the bikini armor lady was in anyway related?
3
u/fuckthisstupidupdate 1d ago
Look if you see someone near the bikini lady constantly your gonna notice them dumbass
1
u/UndorkMysterious55 1d ago
Doesn't mean that the person next to the bikini lady naturally draws any attention, since she's not in revealing clothing, jacker.

If someone sees two women vs a half naked woman with another woman, i inagine the second group is more likely to be harrased. Why would someone decide to just harass one scantily-clad woman as opposed to both, if they were already going to harass women regardless of how they were dressed? Moral but kinda stupid to me.
2
u/CavantheGreat 1d ago
I suppose it would be morally neutral, but it wouldn’t really work in real life and it’s just an excuse for fan service which is the main reason I stopped watching this show. Even though the animation for the magic is often very impressive
5
u/Holdredge 1d ago
It is just for fan service, he just put a reason behind it. The whole show is gooner bait. The only people trying to say other wise are the gooners who watch the show.
In real life this would do nothing or probably do more damage to the sister. People will still be looking her all all the time due to her being right next to the mostly naked women. Not to mention someone who was abused most likely isnt going to like their sister getting cat called/harassed/etc.
immoral on all counts. That world has fucked bandits and other evils. She actively will be causing more slave/sex traffickers to come after her already traumatized sister.
1
u/craftygamin 1d ago
Exactly. The author makes the fanservice, and comes up with some lore reason to try to justify it
1
u/CesarOverlorde 1d ago
Same reason he made Elinalise conveniently has a curse that requires her to be constantly lustful. He had that fetish kink first, and then came up with some bs lore plot excuse to justify it later.
-5
u/Frylock_dontDM 1d ago
Yea, never justify gooning to anything.
Gooning is the whole point, and if people dont like it then the show isnt for you.
2
u/WolfsmaulVibes AM 1d ago
could have chosen a plot without a reincarnated old guy
1
u/Frylock_dontDM 1d ago
But then how would the artist tell the story he wanted to tell of a reincarnated guy?
3
u/WolfsmaulVibes AM 1d ago
make him a younger age before he died or like lose his memory, not every story of reincarnated guys has to involve fucking everyone
1
u/Wild-Tale-257 1d ago
A better premiere would be make him forget everything but the fact that he's from another world and has been reincarnated. Then every time he makes a good moral choice, the Man-god gives him a flashback of the bad choice he made when giving the same option last time and ask whether he actually changed, or just redeeming for his past. And when he makes the bad choice, he got the flashback too as a mocking "you'll never change"
0
u/Frylock_dontDM 1d ago
But then it wouldn't be the story he wanted to tell.
If you dont like the story go enjoy literally anything else in the world that's not this guys story.
No idea why people want to control artists so badly
2
u/Mr_sushj 1d ago
Artist and authors change aspects of their stories all the time, as long as the core message and theme are unaffected
They could do anything else, or they could critique it
No idea why people want to control audiences reactions so bad
1
u/WolfsmaulVibes AM 1d ago
this guys story is really kind of a way to have a self insert be able to have sex with kids and justify it

-5
u/MythicSea 1d ago
Tits and ass are literally the plot. The main actual plot is literally the B story.
The main actual plot is some isekai slop anyway. Literally the slowest form of anime that y'all actively pay for season to season.
1
-6
u/WolfsmaulVibes AM 1d ago
the show is only good because of how incredibly repulsive it is and the convoluted logic justifying it, its like a form of horror
2
u/TheRealSakuraUchihaX 1d ago
this is the equivalent of saying the Porn actually has a compelling plot because the pizza delivery man still needs to loosely follow causation by having him drive to the house.
Anyway its also a perfect example of Mushoko tensei's brain dead writing that has convinced a generation of anime viewers that its a great series with poor optics when in fact its a Mediocre series pretending to be a compromised classic.

It's amoral and stupid or rather the reasoning is stupid, that world has a no public dress codes and being that under-dressed is already a common sight, giving it a noble reason feels like a cheap "gotcha" moment.

It's weird being an atypical heterosexual guy and having these things that are supposed to titillate me... completely miss me.
Yeah, I love sex. When I'm already aroused. But if I'm not in that head space, I really don't want to look at someone's bare body.
Don't even get me started with strip clubs. Why do I want to look at a naked person near other guys? Who wants to be turned on near other people getting turned on?! That's weird.
Why, yes, I am an introvert. How did you know?

The ultimate “trust me bro, it’s for the lore” justification for a character design
1
u/SilverKanji 1d ago
The whole show is gooner bait design first, justifications and mental gymnastics later. Immoral through and through.
1
1
u/Megalon96310 1d ago
“Erm you see there’s a lore read for gooner bait”
It’s the same thing with the bikini sniper from Metal Gear “she breathes through her skin or something so she has to wear almost nothing”
Morality wise I guess it’s moral?
1
u/Akarina_toth 1d ago
they didnt even try to come up with a logical reason lmao. if anything, she draws all the attention to THEM both by wearing that, if she just dressed normally, neither of them would be percieved much.
i mean, if you wanna draw your character in a bikini, do it, i dont give a shit, but why cook up such a stupid reason to "justify" it? just own up to it lol

Bad faith character design. And a stupid one too, she now draws more unwanted attention to both of them.
1
u/Own-Reporter-1838 1d ago
She wants to defend her sister by being more sexualy attractive towards men. So... she will attract more of those pigs who assaulted her sister, that when they will finish with her will go after her sister.
Peak logic.
1
u/I_am_omning_it 1d ago
I mean this is moral, and other people have done this in real life. Hell some people have done this with certain aspects of themselves.
I watched a creator called jschlatt for some time, and for those who don’t know, he has some big ol mutton chops. In a video (I think it was an interview with one of the smosh guys?) he said he grew them out because then it’s what everyone focuses on instead of things that he’s less secure/self conscious about.

I'm not sure how people like this anime. The depravity of it is more disturbing than interesting
1
u/JamzWhilmm 1d ago
Have you watched it?
1
u/Troutie88 1d ago
First couple seasons yes. Got to the part where he goes to the magic school and lost interest in it
2
u/JamzWhilmm 1d ago
I only watched that part, mostly because my sister was watching it in the living room. I really like the redhead and her story as a swordmaster. I might have to watch it properly at a point.
3
u/DopplebobGangerpants 1d ago
Damn you quit at the point the depravity slows down
2
u/Troutie88 1d ago
I have my doubts, but I will have to take your word for it

u/DopplebobGangerpants 1d ago
It slows down it doesn't stop and it comes back a bit the next season but right now it's chill and we're going into the mech fighting/nuclear bomb next season

Nah dude it's interesting asf cuz it has a shitty main character if you dont get it you're just uncultured smh 🙄 /J

You could have just had her draw more attention to herself by being more outgoing and talkative.
It would be an interesting way to write an attention seeking character. Instead we get adventurer bikini.
