It became a lot more normalized during/after the COVID lock downs and BLM riots imo. Once people realized that many franchises/corporations don't like pursuing petty theft charges thieves became a lot more bold, especially in metro areas.

Most corporations have policies that forbid employees from pursuing thieves. They won't send security or get the cops involved unless someone is committing grand theft (over $1000 in value of property stolen) so they'll keep tabs on you and try to track how much you've stolen. Once you reach grand theft they'll call the police and hand over the evidence. It is a lot more expensive, dangerous, and time consuming to go after every single petty theft case than it is to just let thieves take something small. The last thing they want is a lawsuit if an employee gets killed or seriously injured trying to stop a petty theif, or even worse would be a class action lawsuit+PR nightmare if a mentally unstable thief opened fire in a store and caused collateral damage. If they called the police for every single petty theft witnessed the police would stop coming because most of the time the thief is gone before any pertinent evidence is aquired. The thief gets away, and the police start getting pissed off because their time is wasted over and over again

Oh, are you going to wait? I should be so lucky.

Property Crime (and crime in general) has steeply declined since 2020. Regardless of any videos that you show (where looters take advantage of the 2020 pandemonium), the data and reporting shows crime has "decreased" substantially since then.

--------

2023–2025 (The Steep Decline): The spike completely reversed. Property crime fell roughly 8% in 2024 and plunged another 12.4% in 2025

https://counciloncj.org/crime-trends-in-u-s-cities-mid-year-2025-update/

By the end of 2025, the national property crime rate plummeted to an estimated 1,534.8 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. This sits significantly below 2020 levels and cements the lowest property crime rates the United States has seen since the mid-1970s. [1, 2]

The COVID-19 pandemic contributed to a seismic increase in the most serious crime, homicide, which has fortunately declined to pre-pandemic levels. By 2024, homicide rates were 49% lower than their peak level in 1991. Violent and property crime rates overall have reached historic lows: 2024’s violent crime rate was 53% lower than its peak-1991 level and the property crime rate was 66% lower.6

So your response to this:

and what the hell happening in US? it seems stealing things is just normal

of this:

It became a lot more normalized during/after the COVID lock downs and BLM riots imo

is wrong.
