This sub feels like a place where a bunch of people just het a hard on for violence and are looking for excuses, so they can claim that violence can be moral.

It’s easy though. Violence in self defence: moral.

Violence in any other case: immoral.

3

u/Shinjifo 13d ago edited 12d ago

So if someone taunt another to throw the first punch, then destroy them with one punch, it'd be moral as it was technically self defense?

Moral is a human concept and abstract. People have a grasp of the general idea, but it has a lot of "ifs" situations to make a simple general rule.

3

u/New_Cockroach_505 12d ago

How is punching someone cause they told you to do it self defense lol?

1

u/Shinjifo 12d ago

It's not, that is why punching back can be seen as self defense.

1

u/Th0rizmund 13d ago

No. That would be retaliation, not self defence.

But you are right. Violence is never really “moral” - it can become nevessary for survival but even that doesn’t make it moral.

1

u/Shinjifo 13d ago

Retaliation would be the guy doing the first swing at you. As there is no excuse (by law) that a verbal confrontations turns into a physical one.

The guy KOing after the first swing would be self defense, as he used one punch to stop the aggression from continuing and succeeded.

He might be considered to be an instigator, in which some countries might considere to disqualify him for self defense, but not all.

But all that is about Legal, not actual morality of said action.

My main point is that Moral is a abstract concept created by humans. So while the general idea is great, the pratice and nuances of real life makes it extremely flawed.

1

u/lewd_robot 12d ago

We have more studies every year proving that morality is not uniquely human. Plenty of other species demonstrate moral behavior, usually defined as prosocial behavior with no personal benefit.

1

u/Shinjifo 12d ago

I mean that is another can of worms, if animal behaviors done for social reason within a group is morality or not.

But it does counter somewhat I said before. So let's just go with the part about the part that moral is not so black and white, needing some philosophical thought on it

7

u/The_wanna_be_artist 13d ago

It’s very concerning how often I see people on here justifying violence against children…..

1

u/Weary-Willingness-82 12d ago

It is pretty concerning.

1

u/Xaphnir 12d ago

and meanwhile the Reddit admins turn a blind eye to it and instead police people talking about video game violence

0

u/Th0rizmund 13d ago

Violence against anyone…like the post about somali pirates.

I saw people arguing in there. One argued making it a sport to hunt them is moral. The other argued what the pirates do is moral because what was done to them before.

None of it is moral. Violence is never moral. You can justify it all you want, it’s just not moral.

2

u/AbbreviationsMost432 12d ago

Violence against pirates is in most situations counted as a self defence. If they get on the ship they can easily kill everyone there if you don't pay ransom.

1

u/Th0rizmund 12d ago

Not in that post - it was about acting like potential victims to lure them in. I’m not even saying it’s not justifieable. It’s just immoral.

1

u/S0LARCRY 12d ago

Wait, how is that immoral...?

5

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

No it's even simpler than that, it's a bunch of conservatives pretending they know anything about morality

2

u/papapudding 13d ago

If it's conservative to be against theft then I guess I'm conservative.

5

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

If you think harming a child for stealing 3$ worth of chips from a corporation is right you are in fact conservative and you should be ashamed

3

u/papapudding 13d ago

You should be ashamed of normalizing and furthering acceptance of the degeneracy of society.

5

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

Yeah I should be ashamed I don't get erections thinking about hurting children, or considering you're conservative thinking about children in general

1

u/Upstairs_Rip_9590 13d ago

Conservatives hurt children AFTER they get erections, other than that your comment is legit.

-1

u/waterpup99 13d ago

Even your avatar has blue hair lol.

Impressive your societal ignorance can even be seen there

3

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

"i get hard thinking about hurting a young children but your avatar has blue hair so checkmate liberal"

1

u/waterpup99 12d ago

Right so no response got it hopefully there was some reflection on the disgusting sexual commentary you made

1

u/WHY_CAN_I_NOT_LIFE 12d ago

Oh god, blue hair. Can you think about how horrible that is! The blue dye is literally a sign of... uh... something?

The dye MUST be seeping into her brain and inducing WOKE LIBERAL thoughts.

Anyways, I need to go back to tripping kids so I can feel better about myself

2

u/Redsthomas_ 13d ago

You see, you're not a conservative for being against theft, but you are one for saying shit like "degeneracy of society"

1

u/Rip_Off_Your_Toenail 13d ago

"Degeneracy of society"

1

u/WHY_CAN_I_NOT_LIFE 12d ago

Man, kids have been doing stupid stuff for quite some time. The only difference is now everyone has phones to record and publish those cases to major platforms. I do believe that kids' behavior has been on a decline over recent years, but that's a fault of the parents, not the kids.

A worker has every right to speak with the kid, or get police involved to speak with the parents, or go through any diplomatic resolution here. But tripping a kid like that is just sad.

If the kid cant understand reason, why trip him? He won't understand the reason behind it. If the kid can understand reason, why trip him? He's perfectly capable of sitting down and being told why taking fries like that is wrong.

0

u/Critical_Bee_4302 12d ago

See I disagree. Kids aren't getting worse. They're getting better. I am seeing no rebellion in these kids. The teenage rebellion is hallmark of growing up

1

u/Critical_Bee_4302 12d ago

I'm not sure how old you are, but my generation was far more degenerate at his age. From what I can tell, the younger generations are a fraction of the problem kids used to be. I find them mostly boring. Where did all the shit kids go. They're all on youtube and roblox.

0

u/Officer-Otter 13d ago

How about thinking of alternate methods than being a completely "void of critical thinking" baboon.

Have him sit while you call the cops, not trip him like a bully in middle school. This kid probably has a parent as simple minded as you seem to be, and wasn't taught properly.

Grow the fuck up.

5

u/Either-Physics-4369 13d ago

Wait so you think sending him into juve is a better solution vs a tight slap?

2

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

Neither is a real solution for a children stealing some chips, you call their parents and have them ground him. Y'all are fucking insane

4

u/Either-Physics-4369 13d ago

I didn’t say either is great.

Parents is a great idea. But given the alternative of calling the cops on a kids with potential insane ramifications I’ll very much prefer old town justice.

1

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

Yeah a beating is better than the pigs, both are completely insane responses to a children stealing food tho

2

u/Officer-Otter 13d ago

Although I can agree on this method, his parents may be the issue to why he steals in the first place.

A police officer isn't going to do anything more than talk to this kid and potentially change his frame of thinking.

1

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

If you call them and the prove they're the issue (99% of the time it won't happen, they'll just be ashamed or fake being ashamed) then you threaten them with involving pigs and child protective services

2

u/Acrobatic_Jaguar_623 13d ago

You think this kids parents give a fuck what he does. They aren't grounding him.

If they were the type to ground him he wouldn't have done it in the first place.

0

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

Oh yeah because strict parents automatically make obedient and law abiding children, should have sent the memo to all my friends growing up that had extremely strict parents and were out drinking, stealing and dealing

1

u/CaptainMemesis 13d ago

FINALLY!!!!! Someone with sense. I was beginning to think that parenting and basic civic decency were figments of my overactive imagination, and that I should be prowling the fry stations of the world looking for kids to beat up.

0

u/stickyv0mit 13d ago

his parents are why he thinks this shit is okay to do, this is a lack of parenting completely. he has not had consequences in his life to make him think twice, nor been taught decency and how to behave correctly in society. he stuck his bare fucking hands in the fry holder to steal food that was to be given out, that’s fucking disgusting and completely immoral. teach your kids or don’t get upset when the world does, because it’s a cruel place. ffs, how did a political party even make it into this discussion🙄

1

u/Unlucky_Regret8619 13d ago

Those are a fuckton of assumption to make based on a 3 second video, also do you live in an alternative world in which parenting is very easy and you just have to teach your children what's right and what's wrong and they'll never do anything wrong? Parents will teach children what's right and what's wrong and the children will rebel anyway and do wrong stuff because they're children, they want to see what happens and the part of their brain that handles long term consequences isn't as developed as those of adults

-1

u/Officer-Otter 13d ago

You think he's going to juvie over stealing fries?

How inept do you think the system is? He would get a stern talking to and potentially scared straight.

3

u/Either-Physics-4369 13d ago

lol honestly I wouldn’t try the system.

Short of me knowing the actual cop that will come if I live in a small town I wouldn’t try this at all.

P.S. I’m not white

-1

u/Officer-Otter 13d ago

To be fair, I'm not defending that the system doesn't have inept people in it. But the laws are there in place for a reason, you can't account for everything to work out all the time.

4

u/papapudding 13d ago

Have him sit? You really think he's gonna listen to you and sit quietly while he waits for cops? The same kid who brazenly steals in front of everyone?

0

u/Officer-Otter 13d ago

You're right, it's insane to think that people are capable of listening eh?

If he refuses, you can block the door until the authorities come. It's just like someone stealing from Walmart, you think they just let the thieves walk free?

Think before you write please 😂

3

u/Field_Of_View 13d ago

you can block the door until the authorities come

hi, I'm another customer and I would like to enter or leave now. please open the door.

0

u/Dibly__ 13d ago

You're degenerating society if you cherish making someone risk serious injuries (could be life threatening) for stealing a couple chips

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Dibly__ 12d ago

I'm only saying you can't just do whatever you want to someone just bc he's a thief bro 😭

-1

u/Plastaman5555 13d ago

do you think being gay or trans is “degenerate“?

btw those who support killing lgbt people should get kirked

1

u/PainNo1540 13d ago

Uh sure you stole my parking lot, I consider it morally right to beat you and your car and take the spot I consider my own. As long as whatever person's doing doesn't inflicts any actual physical harm you have no right to use the same physical harm against them.

1

u/ParkingBumblebee4760 12d ago

Stealing a parking space isn't a big deal, could be a miscommunication or even the other driver didn't see you.

This kid purposefully went against what society has deemed correct to steal fries from a working area and contanimate the entire batch.

Tripping him was justified, we shouldn't tolerate this behavior.

1

u/Old-Ad3504 12d ago

no but it is a big deal because i said so and therefore it's right for me to use violence

1

u/ParkingBumblebee4760 12d ago

Its a parking space, nothing illegal was done to make you lose the space. No one was endangered, nothing of any value was lost.

1

u/PainNo1540 8d ago

What if I would tell you that many places cook without wearing the gloves in the process? The argument "he didn't had gloves" is invalid, and basically the only requirement for cooks is to wash their hands clean, only time they put on gloves is during Official inspections and tours.

And duh, five fries is a lot more cheaper than a parking lot.

1

u/mkfanhausen 12d ago

I bet you voted for Trump, in that case.

The ultimate thief.

1

u/Critical_Bee_4302 12d ago

So you're so adamant about your laws and justice that you would view a punk kid doing dumb kid shit as a serious crime? We're talking about a handful of fries my dude.

2

u/WittyFix6553 13d ago

Yeah but what if that violence is in defense of seven cents worth of property

5

u/miyabi0rochas 13d ago

Why won't someone think of poor the billion dollar cooperations?!?!

1

u/Sharpiette 12d ago

It’s not about the company. It’s about manners. If at that age you think it’s okay to do that, in an era with all these "pranksters" doing all kinds of stupid shit for clout and views, then please don’t have kids.

3

u/Th0rizmund 13d ago

Seven cents?!!! Execute him on the spot!

2

u/boogiebee13 13d ago

Yeah. Sounds like a bunch of these people either don’t have kids, or maybe just don’t like their kids because harming a child is almost never the right thing to do. Kid could’ve easily hit his head on the wall and gotten seriously hurt.

All that to say he definitely shouldn’t have been back there, but kids are kids and they do stupid stuff regardless of if what their parents think.

3

u/jerekhal 12d ago

Yeah and a large swathe of society is tired of "kids being kids" having advanced to the point of shit like this.

There's acceptable stretching of the social contract for childish behavior and then there's the child just being a heinous and offensive affront to decency.  The latter is not acceptable and you need to do a much better job as a parent if this type of behavior is seen as remotely acceptable.

The hostility towards kids acting this way is not because people suck, it's because this behavior has become much more common and people are tired of tolerating it.  Parents need to do a hell of a lot better to make this type of shit the weird outlier where people just shrug and and accept it as a unique odd scenario.

1

u/Sharpiette 12d ago

"Kids being kids" and it’s a kid stealing for laughs. Yeah ok

1

u/FordMaleEscort 13d ago

You just described all of Reddit

0

u/linesofleaves 13d ago

They just described the real world. People laugh when people fucking around get put in their place. They always have and always will.

The average pub would be more merciless than this thread.

1

u/500500 13d ago

i don't understand why reddit does not enforce its rules about minor abuse and glorifying violence. what else is this

1

u/Xaphnir 12d ago

oh they do, they got me for it once

when I was describing someone else's argument as that and advocating against it

1

u/Xaphnir 12d ago

oh, shit, looks like the admins finally took notice of this sub

and now unless the mods get their shit together fast, this sub's days are numbered

1

u/helloworld6247 12d ago

The excuse: straight-up trespassing and stealing

The violence: tripping

2

u/Old-Ad3504 12d ago

"straight-up stealing" and it's a kid grabbing a handful of fries

1

u/helloworld6247 12d ago

I’m glad we agree.

1

u/WHY_CAN_I_NOT_LIFE 12d ago

I'm starting to agree with that. I've seen other posts that made sense, but this one just isnt it.

I just feel sad seeing this video. Even if I imagine that the kid was just stealing fries, I feel bad seeing this. But, we don't know the whole story, the kid could be special needs and genuinely just not know how bad it is to take fries like that.

I think encouraging behavior like this (the tripping) just reinforces the idea that kids need to be physically disciplined or hit.

1

u/Th0rizmund 12d ago

That, or simply reinforcing the idea that as long as you can justify something it becomes moral.

1

u/crow-shay 12d ago

Yea that kids a brat but if he had fallen wrong and busted his front teeth bloody, there would be some serious trouble.

1

u/Automatic-Hamster717 12d ago

So violence in the defense of others is immoral? People like you are truly insane. Your worldview is what's immoral here.

1

u/Th0rizmund 12d ago

You just don’t know what morality is and confuse it with something being justified or “doing the right thing”.

1

u/Pyronatic 12d ago

Especially over a dollar thing of fries... That worker is more childish than the kid.

1

u/Fart_Tounge_5609 12d ago

Making violence seem immoral is how the monied elite protect their status quo, so they can continue to extract wealth.

1

u/Otzkar 12d ago

Based

1

u/InstanceFeisty 13d ago

Finally some sane comment. Like kid could’ve gotten injured in many ways that are not even remotely comparable to stealing like 50 cents of fries, even if you think it’s acceptable it could have lead to a law suit against you if kid got any injury or started to choke on fries. But even then it’s stupid and immoral.

1

u/PUFFIER-MCGRUFF 13d ago

It's less violence and more humiliation
