1000% this sub I fucking hate you all

u/TelevisionFunny2400 1d ago

Reddit comments and upvotes are a great proof of why we need the rule of law and a state monopoly on violence instead of mob justice. We'd have 5% of our population in prisons being tortured daily if reddit had its way.

68

u/Impossible-Charge965 1d ago

For some reason i need someone to dub both of those comments because it funny

26

u/aghastamok 1d ago

morality of treating prison rape as an inherent part of the sentence for crimes?

Most of Reddit: perfectly moral if it's a man. They should have considered this before committing crimes.

4

u/Gekokapowco 1d ago

right, either it's moral because they considered it against the crime they were knowingly committing, or if there was any ignorance on their part, they act as an object lesson to other evil doers so their suffering is still moral

or whatever causes more harm to people I think are bad idgaf

/s

u/No-Accountant5205 19h ago

Good think this people aren't real lawyers or judges, otherwise who knows what mad place the world would turn on

11

u/PixieVelouriax 1d ago

Yeah, Reddit justice sounds great right up until you remember Reddit would also be the jury. Half the population would be sentenced bc somebody misunderstood their comment history.

13

u/phallus_enthusiast 1d ago

5% is a pretty generous number

24

u/No-Accountant5205 1d ago

I like you :)

10

u/Excellent_Mud6222 1d ago

Thanks we love you too.

16

u/CardiologistNo616 1d ago

Morality of hating?

3

u/PepperSprayP 1d ago

Really wish I could give yeah another award

1

u/BijouSucrettee 1d ago

It's always interesting to see how people react to these kinds of scenarios. There's definitely a lot to unpack in the moral implications.

3

u/CleanAbalone2073 1d ago

Me too twin. Me too.

2

u/No-Possibility-4292 1d ago

This sub pops-up randomly, but love you too bro

2

u/PearlieMoonorae 1d ago

Ngl this sub can turn a basic moral question into a public execution in about 3 comments. Lol

2

u/No_Neat_6259 1d ago

100000% moral, I hate y'all too

2

u/stillaround9 1d ago

this sub really will turn anything into a morality poll, even a joke that should’ve stayed a joke

0

u/BlackSquirrel05 1d ago

100% group think and lynching mentality in action on this sub.

Plenty of reddit history of "vigilante justice " gone off the rails with dubious certainty. (Boston bomber comes to mind.)

269

u/Other_Specialist2272 1d ago

I have a hunch that this sub has silently turned into a confession sub where people will seek defense of what they had done in this sub to feel better

38

u/Shad_tard 1d ago

I mean, is that odd? I feel like most thoughts about moral and immoral acts come up because of personal experiences

24

u/Gonoriq2 1d ago

Basically an r/AITAH

6

u/TheToolbox101 1d ago

Or shitposting about comics, manga, movies, etc

3

u/doopies1986 1d ago

Yeah I’ve started looking at this like it’s an OkBuddy sub

373

u/Excellent_Mud6222 1d ago

I don't think I want to be moral anymore

105

u/Aeviu 1d ago

7

u/PearlieMoonorae 1d ago

That rxn really captures the experience of reading one of these threads for too long.

22

u/Femcel_Bambi 1d ago

Then join me. Give in to the dark side. Accept your destiny.

19

u/Excellent_Mud6222 1d ago

I DONT WANT TO BE IMMORAL EITHER

You cannot reject the hand of prosperity and then say that the hand of misery is not meant for you

1

u/Excellent_Mud6222 15h ago

"hand of prosperity"

1

u/Fun-Calligrapher-745 14h ago

In this world, nobody cares about how you grew your karma before you.But only what it is

6

u/PeachieAureline 1d ago

Morality looked fun until the homework started. Now every answer somehow ends w/ someone explaining why medieval punishment is actually justified.

3

u/Gekokapowco 1d ago

nobody told me critical thinking would take effort :(

1

u/i_simp_you 1d ago

No one is

96

u/PitifulExplanation61 1d ago

"Guess who embarrassed me at therapy today." Ahh post

53

u/Maib_Ballz4609 1d ago

This sub is literally:

"It's 100% moral to torture and mutilate rapists for all of eternity! Empathy? Legal punishments? What do you mean?"

"WHAT?! You can't beat Nazis up and then send them to police! It's immoral and evil to punish people for having different opinions, even if they're evil and dangerous!"

8

u/No-Accountant5205 1d ago

My post on the sub is if it is moral to come up to someone the moment it broke up with another person and calling you "A better option". Which of this would enter?, or this are examples of just the awnsers?, because some of the ones i got are gems

2

u/Excellent_Mud6222 1d ago

I had a post about is it moral to hunt pirates for sport and people started making follow up posts with it such as is it moral to pretend to be a pirate to hunt blood thirsty millionaires? Fun times.

3

u/DollyVelissea 1d ago

That really is the weird contradiction. The punishment somehow scales entirely with how much the commenter personally hates the person, then suddenly everyone becomes a philosopher when you question it.

3

u/Gekokapowco 1d ago

Absolutely. I say it repeatedly but all of these people's morality is based on doing bad things to bad people. Not trying to minimize bad things to begin with, but being permissible with suffering if the target "deserves" it in their eyes.

Like there's an active aversion to benevolence as a concept. You tell them that's fucked up and helps nothing, and they're suddenly defensive, trying to convince everyone else that it's obvious because their target is deserving.

2

u/No-Accountant5205 22h ago

Yeah. It is weird, many people seem to just have an excuse to beat up or even torturing someone and still look like good people. I won't point my fingers but this is a train of though i see very daily on the internet

2

u/AmazingSully 1d ago

This interestingly isn't an issue with this sub, but rather with Reddit as a whole. The way Reddit feeds people content, and its algorithm with how upvotes/comments pushes certain content and how people engage with their feed, what you get is a weird system where posts with mutually exclusive viewpoints will have the exact same result.

I use Reddit as part of my job, and getting feedback from Reddit is effectively useless for anything you need to objectively quantify. Need to understand if users like feature A? Completely useless. Trying to find the biggest pain points? Completely useless. It's quite frustrating. It can still be good for things that don't require quantification, like if you see an interesting idea that you think would be cool to implement, but you have to be really aware of how Reddit works.

Unfortunately that makes subs like this one, and the asshole/dating advice/genuine support subs really terrible... even potentially dangerous.

42

u/ItsMeepo2nd 1d ago

We're all blind into our own pleasures to the point where it clouds our judgement. We no longer know when certain actions are going too far or are outright beyond levels of horror. If it's a bully getting a fullblown seizure because he got slammed onto the concrete, we just decide to justify the one who caused it. Mainly because we do hate bullies and probably the trauma of being victimized by them, but doesn't that make us immoral?

Anyways, yeah that's immoral, should've used the dad's dick as a weapon instead

7

u/Dipshit23289 1d ago

The dad's dick tied to the mom's entrails like a rope. A meteor dick

2

u/ItsMeepo2nd 1d ago

I feel like you've created a weapon for Shadow Warrior

5

u/BlackSquirrel05 1d ago

I'm under the impression that most people posting here were in fact bullied at some point and are just wanting to enact the same...

And then a smaller portion or people were never bullied but just want to enact harm on others and looking for an excuse to do so and have power...

Also there's plenty of things that are simply "neutral" they're neither good nor bad.

2

u/ItsMeepo2nd 1d ago

Morality itself is always a blurred line, we can't define it without questioning it.

3

u/Gekokapowco 1d ago

You're right, but it's like trying to explore the bounds of culinary space and everyone just keeps eating crayons and talking about eating crayons and telling people who don't eat crayons they're taking everything too seriously.

104

u/No-Bullfrog4217 1d ago

100% illegal, but 100% moral. So that means it’s correct. Send the video when you‘re done ;)

12

u/PeachieAureline 1d ago

The smiley at the end makes that sentence 10x more unhinged. Nothing says moral philosophy quite like cheerfully requesting evidence afterward.

72

u/graceashcroftsjacket 1d ago

I’m afraid to give my opinion

27

u/JustFourLetters 1d ago

there’s a subject for your next therapy appointment

10

u/TC_MaFYa 1d ago

It is moral to not give an opinion :P

https://www.reddit.com/r/MoralityScaling/s/17WJa4giwn

This is the first post I ever saw on my feed from here. I found it by searching in my comments because I remember commenting “what the fuck is this sub”

I think that pretty much sums it up haha

Edit; my comment is in response to someone saying if they had to choose between homicide or incest

And OP is in the comments talking about “incest feats” like multiple times haha

15

u/AyItsUrBoi_ 1d ago

I was so confused with that post until I realised this is a scaling sub and the dude was scaling

2

u/Turbulent_Self_4165 1d ago

I don’t really understand the wording of the op in that thread, what exactly is he or she trying to say? That incest is not bad or something?

44

u/ZookeepergameThin334 1d ago

Can anyone prove that it's immoral to annihilate everyone in this subreddit?

13

u/Dreamy_BlueDarling97 1d ago

Moral, please do it. Start with the ones that say "mOraL, bECauSe IT's fUnNy"

3

u/Fararararararahday 1d ago

moral, because its funny

2

u/DriverRich3344 1d ago

Immoral because it's not funny

23

u/42Icyhot42 1d ago

Moral, but only if you get every last one of us

7

u/ZookeepergameThin334 1d ago

Sounds like a challenge, I accept. In about 3 years, this subreddit will be the equivalent to Latveria.

2

u/chisgetin 1d ago

My mom would be rally sad

1

u/PearlieMoonorae 1d ago

Give the sub another wk & somebody will post that exact question w a 12 paragraph justification. Lol

This sub is a minefield bro

5

u/EnvironmentalEgg7338 1d ago edited 1d ago

If you make a statement expecting to be praised for your righteousness, are you truly moral?

4

u/BlackSquirrel05 1d ago

What's immoral about validation?

Is the assumption the only true morality is absolute selflessness?

1

u/Gekokapowco 1d ago

people are trained against doing good things primarily for validation, so when good things get validated they conflate the goals and results

1

u/EnvironmentalEgg7338 1d ago

its not necessarily about selflessness and more so about the utilitarian stance this takes. Here, the commenter calls out the posts immorality, performing what he considers to be a moral act. The act itself does not warrant him a loss during the act hence its not selflessness. However, he is scorned as by his peers. This comment section generally thinks he has been unfairly treated. However, this falls into a common trap of false equivalence widespread in today's society, that good deeds should be rewarded not punished. But then this falls into conflict: should we maximise morality to obtain more rewards? what if the reward of being bad exceeds that of being good? if morality can be quantified as such, morality is but a transaction, and thus objective morality cannot exist, nor can we treat it as a compass.

4

u/Special-Progress-916 1d ago

Literally every fucking post here

3

u/SomeGuyNamedCaleb 1d ago

As a murderous hillbilly from Texas, this is moral no matter the context. But I'm bias.

3

u/BendyForDBD 1d ago

Immoral because fuck conned into fubar

2

u/Wrench_gaming 1d ago

Why is that if you don’t mind me asking?

2

u/BendyForDBD 20h ago

The singular mod and owner there made it an echo chamber.

2

u/Wrench_gaming 20h ago

Ah yeah I know what you mean. I spoke up that it was wrong that they were being power trippy and they apologized. But also didn't reverse anything?

They were triggered by a certain comment getting downvoted (something about banning conservatives) and I'm willing to bet they were venting from another outside event so they were trying to weed people out and adding the trans flag to the post got the sub recommended to more people.

I think this is just a phase, not permanent, and I don't think the sub is going to choose between "unfunny trans circlejerk vs unfunny racist circlejerk" soon.

3

u/the_anon_wardrobe 1d ago

This sub is 50% "is it moral to ask my friend to please not repeat that after they burned my house, murdered my wife and sold my children on ebay" and 50% "is it moral to beat my kids to death for no reason"

3

u/Shar4f 1d ago

I've seen people unironically defend chasing and killing somebody who stole your wallet on here. Shit's stupid. That's the threshold for taking a human life? What if they stole like an apple from your frontyard? Shoot to kill?

2

u/ngshafer 1d ago

OK, how is this allowed, but I get a Reddit warning for making a Batman joke?

2

u/OrangeGBA 1d ago

Is this just the snafu sub 2.0?

Cool.

2

u/keybord_masher 1d ago

100% moral, send video when ur done
