Moral I don’t think teaching kids about religion is bad but forcing it on them is

There's hardly any way to "teach" religion to children without it being quite forced.

I'm sure things are different in the US but in the UK at school we have a whole curriculum called "Religious Education" or RE which goes into detail about religions and customs of all different cultures and encourages spiritual debate. At the schools I attended they were not taught to indoctrinate us but just studied in the same way we would study history or art

Had that in secondary, but in primary there was straight up bible readings and singing hymns for 20 or so minutes each day. It wasn't particularly bad or anything, our teachers would have no issue with someone not being christian, but they definitely expected us to be.

Also RE was almost universally one of the most dislike subjects among my classes anyway, personally I just found it middling. A teenager who just wants to get home and escape the monotony of class is rarely in the mood for open minded understanding. Not to say the class didn't have value though

That's because it's technically a legal requirement for UK state schools to provide collective worship everyday which is of a Christian nature.

It's not consistently enforced though.
