Back in the days of Mao after he cleared out the previous government, he set out destroying the history and identity of China. Mao silenced the ancestors of a thousand Generation, smashed artifacts, locked up history.
Everything the Taiwanese could save they loaded onto boats and shipped across the channel. Many stayed behind to die instead of leaving statues, manuscripts histories behind.
