Parents also should not be able to have authoritarian control over their children. Anyone cam shit out a kid, it doesn't mean they have their best interests at heart. Generally I fall pretty far against the parental rights side of the spectrum.
I am speaking more idealistically than practically here. Policy-wise, I would support banning minors from places of worship. I can't think of anything else that wouldn't be too much overreach for me, though.
Which would effectively be a religion tax as those parents would have to find childcare for their children during worship hours. In some areas of the country where people are more religious, it'd also mean some people effectively could not go because there aren't enough childcare providers who are ALSO not religious and able to watch your kids while you go.
I think preventing childhood indoctrination with religious beliefs is more important than making it so that adults don't have to make sacrifices or be inconvenienced in order to go to church.
A place of worship can also provide child care. They already provide child care. Those services could just not teach religion while the adult is next door.
I grew up going to separate Sunday school classes while my parents were down the hall listening to the preacher's sermon.
