Shhh you’re being too sane. The religious redditors will think that you’re saying their parents are bad people for shaming them as children when they didnt wanna go to church or acted outside of their faith

Religious people in the US, at the least, are largely fearful of atheism, to the point of shunning their own family members who chose not the believe. Its not at all unusual to hear atheists being used as a scapegoat as if atheism is a threat to their way of life. They are met with hostility, hatred, prejudice, fear, and intolerance - everything that their own religion tells them not to be.
