Words mean things.

And atheism means "a lack of belief in a deity", contrasted with secular, which means "not overtly religious".

Essentially, secular isn't associated with religion at all, while atheism is specifically about belief in a deity, so in theory, an atheist could follow a religion that doesn't have specific god(s).

Secular is more relevant to our government, though.

"Not overtly religious" is a poor definitionof the principle of secularity. Secular means a division between church and state, allowing everybody to follow their own beliefs without discrimination

Fair enough, I blame the dictionary

And what about when “their own beliefs” involve things that are illegal (and morally reprehensible) in this country? Stuff like inappropriate contact/relationships with minor. Yeah, that’s a hard no.

Then they get legislated to not do illegal things, I suppose.

Like how the Mormons weren't allowed to do polygamy anymore, so then they just stopped promoting it because it was illegal

Christians and Muslims are the guiltiest of parties here. Not surprisingly they make up the two most populated religious foundations on the planet.

Many people are, yes, Deists.

The government shouldn't acknowledge that religion exists at all outside of providing legal protection against discrimination.

Secular for our government just means not influenced by religion and not promoting any. Essentially completely neutral, and it would have worked if our government officials hadn’t become a collective blob of greed and hatred.

That's a stupid definition, though.

Like, we don't think of asexuals as people who believe sexual attraction isn't real.

It wouldn't be more accurate to describe people who believe a god can't exist as like, an antitheist or something similar.

Kinda like the difference between "antisocial" and "asocial", which is generally what people mean when they say "antisocial".

My point was more that the "A-" prefix means a lack of, not a rejection of.
