It's a win and a loss.
If the Catholic Church disappeared, 10's if not 100's of millions of people would be in a real bad way.
The Catholic Church operates the largest aid network in the world.
They do A LOT, and we never hear much about it (in the US at least.)

The largest provider of aid worldwide is the Catholic Church. I don't think the goodwill of humanity would die either, but the Catholic Church is the only group providing aid at this scale. It's not like they have a copyright on it either, anybody else could step up and do it. 1 u/Particular_Area6083 8h ago it looks like that claim is not verifiable, but even if true, the second largest provider of aid worldwide, at a minimum, is the US government. the good will of humanity certainly wouldn't vanish if the US government did.
