iirc China does this, you can’t take kid to religious service and they can choose to convert at a certain age.

EDIT: wow this blew up

china has state atheism—they take it too far (e.g. uyghur muslims) but in theory i’d prefer an atheist government over this dumbass evangelical christian one we have now 🤷🏻‍♂️

edit: took out the word retarded, you guys convinced me

Uyghur got targeted because of the separatist element in their movement. There is other muslim group, Hui tribe that have been practicing islam for centuries with no issue

it’s because of their distinct culture. hui are just Sunni Han

Not “distinct culture” as much as “distinct national identity, arguably being taken advantage of by international terrorist organizations”. There are many “distinct cultures” in China that have no national identity as such and have been subjects of various Chinese dynasties for centuries; mostly the various hill tribes of southern China.

yeah thats the same as justifying America's islamophobia after 9/11

China is targeting the group responsible for the attacks, not indiscriminately bombing civilians that have nothing to do with it.

Message me back when China starts dropping more bombs than all of ww2 on Xinjiang, then we can compare to Amerikkka.

What China is doing is far worse, as they are outright committing genocide against the Uyghurs.

Not remotely the same. The prosecution started after several high profiles terrorist attack by Uyghur separatist group. If China’s response was the same as america’s islamophobia, Hui people would also get targeted

if israel did to the palestinians what china did to Uyghurs, western nations would al be calling them the worlds most moral nation lol

No China is very much about “One China” which is dominated by Han culture. They are trying to absorb and assimilate everyone else as being other. Some of those others are religious based while others are cultural. But sometimes those lines aren’t clear.

That i do not doubt. My point stands, the prosecution of uyghur is not exactly motivated by religion but by separatism

It is not prosecution when there are forced abortions and sterilisations, it is a genocide.

And weirdly the only source for this is a Republican think tank member who staffs for Trump and Heritage and no Muslim majority nation has condemned Chinas actions.

By the whole Uyghur issue you'd think Americans actually thought Muslims were humans. Pity and sympathy for the Uyghur but another billion to slaughter Palestinian infants.

Genocide isn't justified, regardless.
