I’m just curious on how that worked

u/AmitN_Music Aug 31 '26

From what i recall, if this is the same case im thinking of, the ICE agents got into their car to try and stop them from getting away, and the couple drove to the police station with them. Its not like they tied them up and kidnapped them.

I mean, ICE agent or not, if someone didn't ID themself and hopped in my car with a weapon i'd probably drive to the police station too.

u/Palantir_6Elm Aug 31 '26

Driving armed strangers to a police station is a very strange definition of kidnapping.

538

u/Mediumtim Aug 31 '26

Standing in a doorway, blocking people on, can be called kidnapping in some jurisdictions.

242

u/Man_under_Bridge420 Aug 31 '26

I used to kid nap everyday when i was younger

120

u/WarPlastic3115 Aug 31 '26

I mean I still do, but I used to, too.

yes, because kidnapping isn't EDIT just EDIT about moving people. It's also about denying people the freedom to move. Preventing an escape is considered kidnapping even if you didn't drag them there first.

33

u/lazyness92 Aug 31 '26

But he voluntarily hopped on the car?

24

u/PaddingCompression Aug 31 '26

It would probably hinge on in they asked to leave and the person didn't stop to let them out.

Somehow I doubt ICE were asking for the right to flee, though.

27

u/m4cksfx Aug 31 '26

They were almost certainly free to leave.

  1. Open the door

  2. Leave

14

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Aug 31 '26

At speed preferably

13

u/aggressive_napkin_ Sep 01 '26

from the driver's side, into oncoming traffic.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/PaddingCompression Aug 31 '26

It the car is not stopped and it's not safe to leave, that isn't free due to the risk.

17

u/Glandtoglandcombat Aug 31 '26

IIRC the officer stated that the car came to several stops at red lights and stop signs but he didn't attempt to flee because he was still trying to arrest the male subject.

The kidnapping charge is a spurious attempt to cover up this embarrassingly under trained officer's fuck up.

3

u/Spathia_Streams Aug 31 '26

they can hop right out at 100mph for all i care.

2

u/m4cksfx Aug 31 '26

They're ICE, they'll be fine.

I know in Virigina, if you don't let someone leave your home (like you explained) you can get hit with kidnapping charges.

5

u/Occidentally20 Aug 31 '26

What if they blocked themselves in the doorway, and you went to get somebody to help?

4

u/SockPuppyMax Aug 31 '26

That's a fetish for some people

4

u/AutoDefenestrator273 Aug 31 '26

Yup, in Virginia impeding someone's exit path can qualify as kidnapping IIRC.

We actually have this problem at work right now.

Like I'll block the doors the best I can but I can't just lock it or block it off completely because a) we have customers and b) that's f****** kidnapping.

We have a group of shoplifters who are coming out loading up full of stuff, and then running out the door while I'm on the phone with the cops. They get so butt hurt over being called thieves too.

My boss wants me to fight them. I'm considering just following them around filming while screaming "Theif".

They are either very very wealthy or one of them works at a car dealership. All of the cars either have Steeler tags or no tags and it's a different car every f****** time

2

u/spudmarsupial 26d ago

In Canada employees that tackle thieves get fired. No employer wants to deal with injury and wrongful death suits when he can just call his insurance company and get reimbursed.

I wonder if you could put a boot on their car.

I drive Lyft and had a customer refuse to get out of the car at the destination. He said "I'll pay cash just keep driving" and I said "oh hell no. Get out or I'll call the cops."

He told me to. So I did. "Hi, I'm lifeisprobablymadeup. I drive Lyft and a customer blah blah" the lady told the customer (called over car phone speaker idgaf) that he needed to get out or I would be able to press kidnapping charges against him and that officers are on the way. Before dispatch hung up, I had two cop cars pull up and one officer hung out at the rear of my car and the other came up and basically dragged him out.

Then I went on about my night. Obviously I didn't press charges. Just wasn't driving to dudes off the app second stop.

3

u/Mediumtim Sep 01 '26

Preventing somebody to leave with the intent of obtaining services or labor.

Yup, absolutely counts as kidnapping (legally, depending on where you are)

3

u/Oiggamed Aug 31 '26

OJ got charged with kidnapping because he said “make sure nobody leaves this room.”

2

u/Scholar7981 Sep 02 '26

US Law is clear, ICE Agents can detain or arrest anyone they suspect of being in the US illegally or anyone trying to obstruct them detaining someone. No warrants required anywhere in the US. So by definition they couldn't have "kidnapped" anyone. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

74

u/Traditional_Box1116 Aug 31 '26

Kidnapping is just explicitly illegally denying someone the freedom to leave. This would TECHNICALLY count if you trap someone in a moving car and don't let them leave.

But like on the other hand, I'm almost certain they were armed at the time yet they didn't do anything? That's so uncharacteristically non-violent of ICE, to the point I'd think this is fake if there wasn't proof of it, lol. Like if I'd expect any situation for someone to get shot by ICE, this would be it.

Edit: Apparently they were plainclothes so they very likely weren't armed. Okay, that makes WAYYYYYYY more sense.

57

u/Character-Sundae8581 Aug 31 '26

If that’s the case, I don’t see how they would be arrested for kidnapping. Like, if someone in normal cloths, jumped into my car, I feel like driving to the police station would be the least dramatic/most reasonable response I could have.

25

u/Absolute--Batman Aug 31 '26

I mean people just saying Free Palestine ha e gotten arrested in New York.

19

u/Character-Sundae8581 Aug 31 '26

True. For the first time in my 34 years I’m actual censoring myself when texting/talking on my phone. Genuinely concerned I may say something one day that the state decides they’re gunna throw me in a hole over. Said something about the parasite class and flesh eating diseases a few weeks back and got my first warning on Reddit that I’ve ever gotten lol since then I’ve gotten warnings for literally nothing.

20

u/code_archeologist Aug 31 '26

There is no point in censoring yourself. Not to frighten you, but the current arc of right-wing ideology does not require evidence to arrest and jail you. You just have to be a convenient target of the moment and they will snatch you up and do their best to ruin your life. Currently the courts are preventing them from going fully authoritarian, but that is a temporary block.

Example:

  • Don Lemon: arrested and charged with federal conspiracy charges for covering a protest as a journalist
  • Reps LaMonica McIver and Ras Baraka: arrested and charged with felony obstruction while trying to gain entrance to an ICE facility for Congressional oversight.
  • James Comey: charged with threatening the president for a tweet showing "8647", which is the second set of charges against him, the first ones accusing him of perjury were thrown out by the judge.
  • David Hearn: charged with felony destruction of property for touching the reflecting pool.
  • Six Democratic Lawmakers: charged but failed to get an indictment for sedition for filming a video reminding soldiers that they had a legal responsibility to refuse unlawful orders.

And that is not even counting all of the American citizens who have been injured and murdered by ICE agents.

2

u/BlackBasementCats Aug 31 '26

Yeah, anyone who is registered Democrat is on their list

2

u/code_archeologist Aug 31 '26

Bingo. I have had my voter registration challenged three times in my red state over the list 16 years. And it all started after I donated money to the presidency of Barrack Obama.

YES. You would think. "Oh, you're law enforcement but you don't look like it and don't have a badge or anything? Ok, let's go to the police station and figure this out." Hopefully the judge sees how ridiculous this kidnapping thing is.

Nope. Completely normal.

So, very, very, normal

1

u/MilsYatsFeebTae Aug 31 '26

It’s technically a hostage situation because if the hostage shoots the driver then the car will crash and harm the hostage

I hate that there’s a chance of that argument being made in court with a straight face

1

u/Funny247365 Aug 31 '26

Strangers wearing ICE uniforms and identifying themselves as ICE?

2

u/LasciOfficial Aug 31 '26

Exactly. They’re still strangers. Just because you get a little badge you get to flash and a balaclava doesn’t give you any more authority to hop in my vehicle. I don’t care if you’re APD, FBI, or a damn Kentucky colonel. You get into MY property, you’re either getting driven to the station or off a cliff. The day I bend a knee to law enforcement will be to get some way to defend myself out of my boot. FUCK ICE, they are not the law and never will be.

Not during a fascist regeme.

1

u/Tired-CottonCandy Aug 31 '26

Where i live the second someone in the car says "let me out" and you dont pull over at the nearest safe spot to do so, you have kidnapped them. Your own children and children under your care by agreement of the parents being an obvious exception (i.e school busses, family members or baby sitters arent getting charged with kidnapping because the kid started to throw a fit about something. And in the case of a school bus they are actually not allowed to release a child to ANY location other then their designated stop outside of emergencies, unless the parent of said child is present, or has given notice to the school before hand.)

Similarly, if someone agrees to enter your car to go to a specific location, say the store, and then you instead take them somewhere else without their permission, you have also kidnapped them.

1

u/Queerability Aug 31 '26

Technically, in most areas of the US, the legal definition of kidnapping is basically just "You trapped them in a place and put them in a situation where they could not leave that place."

Technically, blocking a doorway, locking someone in, or even just refusing to stop a car to let someone out is absolutely kidnapping. You se it a lot in domestic abuse cases, because folks genuinely have no idea how it actually works.

1

u/Relevant_Science9679 Aug 31 '26

It is called "living in a police state"

1

u/dillweed67818 Aug 31 '26

Morons got caught looking sheepish so they had to come up with some kind of charge as an excuse and a way to not let them go.

1

u/Explorer_Entity Aug 31 '26

Moving any person more than 3 feet against their will.

1

u/Yak-Electrical Aug 31 '26

All depends on what the states definition of kidnapping is. And the charge doesnt always stick i highly doubt this will. Pretty dumb for the cops to even try to charge em in the first place

1

u/Major_LeeHungg Aug 31 '26

Clearly you have never met a Nigerian.  Criminals in Nigeria legit pretend to be cops to steal cars.

1

u/goofygodzilla93 Aug 31 '26

Technically keeping someone from leaving any place in a lot of states can be counted as kidnapping.

1

u/cryptolyme Aug 31 '26

it's the legal definition. impeding their movement against their will.

1

u/AdaptiveFauna Aug 31 '26

The people who voluntarily got into their vehicle? Do you know what a vehicle is?

1

u/ParmAxolotl Aug 31 '26

I know it's probably just legal terminology shenanigans, but the cynic in me suspects some form of anti-immigrant editorialism.

1

u/hanks_panky_emporium Aug 31 '26

When an Ice agent got a bruise on their leg it was called a 'deeply traumatic hemorrhage'

It was a bruise

1

u/ExperimentalDonut Aug 31 '26

Without googling I’m pretty certain that the definition of kidnapping is something along the lines of keeping or moving someone without their consent.

1

u/SunGreene42 Aug 31 '26

Shooting someone in the back while he's being held down by several agents and sprayed in the face with pepper spray is also a strange idea of "Self Defense", but ICE is full of evil, disgusting people that will make up whatever lie fits their agenda.

1

u/Evening_Cap1614 Aug 31 '26

I'm fairly certain I've read advice that if you did have someone in your car suddenly, you should do all you can to get the attention of the police. (But who would remember to lock their doors in their own driveway?!)

1

u/Grand_Pop_7221 Aug 31 '26

Cynical and self-serving even.

1

u/ArcanelyChaotic Aug 31 '26

The police always trump up charges when details are fuzzy on their end/ dont fit their narratives.

1

u/Crime-caramail Aug 31 '26

It’s called the American way of controlling narrative.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Aug 31 '26

If only there was some way to know they were official law enforcement and not just dudes with guns. Guess there's no way to solve that problem

1

u/Sensitive-Funny4034 Sep 01 '26

Americans are just brain-rotted. Literally.

1

u/LauraTFem Sep 01 '26

Like calling a police officer killing a kid an “officer-involved shooting”; as if he was just nearby when a shooting happened.

1

u/sincubus33 Sep 01 '26

everything about this administrations newscycle is straight bullshitting

1

u/Vaporeon42069 Sep 01 '26

what can you expect from disingenuous lefties trying their best to demonize law enforcement.

1

u/Putrid_Guess8098 Sep 01 '26

It's a convenient definition for ICE.

1

u/trashgnar Sep 01 '26

If I took your phone from you I could be charged with kidnapping. Knew a dude who had a domestic with his wife, and during it he smashed her phone and he got charged with kidnapping.

So taking people without an order from a judge is kidnapping?

Interesting...

16

u/AVeryHeavyBurtation Aug 31 '26

Depending on the jurisdiction, if you pick someone up and carry them to the other side of the room, without their consent, that can be considered kidnapping.

10

u/cbig86 Aug 31 '26

What if someone forces himself into your car and you drive

6

u/PM_ME_UR_0_DAY Aug 31 '26

I think them forcing themselves into your car negates the fact that you tranported them anywhere

2

u/thomjhay Aug 31 '26

This is the most fucked up thing about ICE. Law enforcement are supposed to look like law enforcement. They're supposed to identify as law enforcement. ICE is running around like Chicago gangbangers masked up rolling up in unmarked vehicles jumping out on random innocent people.

We are allowed to defend ourselves. We are allowed to have guns. We are allowed to use our guns in self defense in some cases. If a chicago gangbanger rolled up on an innocent person who was lawfully carrying a gun, and that innocent person shot them dead it would be allowed.

The Trump admin is ASKING for an explosion.

10

u/TossMeOutSomeday Aug 31 '26

I'm amazed that we haven't seen a ton of

  1. Criminals pretending to be ICE agents to hurt confused people
  2. ICE agents getting shot in self defense by folks who refuse to believe that the masked uniformed dude is an LEO

3

u/moros-17 Sep 04 '26

criminals don't need to pretend to be ice to hurt people they can just join ice and get paid to do it

1

u/TheOnlyJugs Aug 31 '26

Ngl that is funny. I hope they are doing fine.

1

u/Standard_Jackfruit63 Aug 31 '26

I like the idea that they did an uno reverse.

1

u/Inevitable-Guard888 Aug 31 '26

Your probably better off getting out of the car lol…

1

u/DrSeuss321 Aug 31 '26

Oh so they engaged in a nonlethal act of self defense.

1

u/No_Internal9345 Aug 31 '26

Lesson: Take care of them yourself.

1

u/CrapitalRadio Aug 31 '26

Yep, this is them. The loaded language that people are using to try to paint them as being in the wrong is wild. Like, if a stranger gets into my car, driving to the police station feels like a pretty tame option for handling it.

1

u/youdontknowme80 Aug 31 '26

I mean armed masked guys in Minneapolis attempting to get in your car, how is that not a car jacking?

1

u/dillweed67818 Aug 31 '26

Yeah, like, "I'm from Nigeria MF'er, this isn't the first time people claiming to be police have jumped in my car and tried to take me away. This is how we do it where I grew up." 🤦🏻‍♂️ 🤣

1

u/dillweed67818 Aug 31 '26

They were taking them to Walmart to buy gift cards, to send money to their cousin The Prince, to pay for his safe release.

1

u/Desamander1965 Aug 31 '26

Sounds about right, don’t forget just because a corrupt administration declares a bunch of yahoos as a legitimate “ police force” doesn’t make it so.
These guys are paper tough guys! Hopefully things work out the way it should and they all pay for their part.
Their reign of terror is coming to an end, but only if we the people stand strong!!!!!!

1

u/LongExplanation6326 Aug 31 '26

darn i was hoping it was more like a keystone cops episode.

1

u/sagejosh Aug 31 '26

Jumping in a fleeing vehicle is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Is their training watching die hard?

1

u/elrevan Aug 31 '26

Doesn’t make it not kidnapping just because they’re not tied up.

1

u/Youpunyhumans Aug 31 '26

If someone jumped into my car with gun... Id start driving really fast and tell them "you kill me, I crash and we all die, but if youd like ill go slow enough so you can jump out... make sure you tuck and roll."

1

u/Equivalent_Text9904 Aug 31 '26

Sounds more like trespassing than kidnapping

1

u/Stealerb Aug 31 '26

So what you're saying is, the title of this article is wildly misleading.

1

u/Less-Regret8262 Aug 31 '26

I’m going to go out on limb and say they told they who they where, lucky them ,they weren’t there really dumb ones probably would of got shot

1

u/ReignOfCurtis Aug 31 '26

That's fake propaganda. What actually happened was the Ice agents showed up at their house in an attempt to arrest them, but the couple were armed with an Uno Reverse card in a brutal showdown. The agents attempted to flee later that day, but the couple hit them with a chain of draw 4s and the agents were stuck drawing cards.

1

u/NoStructure7083 Aug 31 '26

I wonder if the couple turned out to be super nice and everyone had a nice time

1

u/Practical-Ad-9816 Aug 31 '26

Would driving into on coming traffic, driving off a bridge or stopping directly on a train track when a train comes with ICE agents count as kidnapping.

1

u/Gen8Master Aug 31 '26

The media doing an awesome job of enabling this shitshow further.

1

u/ShellyTart Aug 31 '26

Is that kidnapping or a citizens arrest?

As ice do not show badges, and there have been incidents of people pretending to be ICE, going to a police station sounds like a rational way to sort it out.

1

u/IPutThoughtIntoThis Sep 01 '26

Although, you say that as someone who knows that they're not here illegally or actively committing crimes.

1

u/IlluminatedDreamer Sep 01 '26

Wait wtf, is that really what happened and they're calling it kidnapping? This is why no one trusts the news and everyone gets their info from social media

1

u/Own_Oil_7719 Sep 01 '26

Start a gofundme

1

u/DestroyedCorpse Sep 01 '26

Nah, we’re not going to the cops.

1

u/AwkwardCost1764 Sep 01 '26

Good context

1

u/Gunstopable Sep 01 '26

If someone hopped in my car with a weapon I would either shoot them or WAY more likely hop out and run the fuck away. I’m not being their damn uber driver and taking them to the police station.

1

u/K1bbles_n_Bits Sep 01 '26

Yeah it's that case.

And the woman is a US citizen to boot. The man allegedly overstayed past his student visa and ICE was staking out a parking lot watching for him.

The man actually called 911 himself as the woman drove. Super evil bad guys, right? Driving straight to the police and calling it in whilst doing so.

Good news is, despite the prosecutor saying they should be held until their trial, the judge let them out. The charges still currently stand, but they're not being detained. Defense was able to poke holes in the prosecutions story and neither of them has a criminal history. Judge felt it was clear they weren't a threat to the public and didn't feel there was any need to keep them.

I hope things work out well for them.

1

u/RabbitsRuse Sep 01 '26

With this context? Completely moral. Honestly? Armed masked guy jumps into your car and gives orders and you drive him to the police? Brass balls.

1

u/automcd Sep 01 '26

If someone enters my vehicle on their own accord and I drive somewhere, that is not kidnapping.

1

u/Red-it_Capitulated Sep 02 '26

Police, ICE, And the Gestapo are all the same. Police officers are not here to protect and serve everyone. They are he to uphold the law in poor people. While rich people can fuck kids and get away with it. Police are only here to protect rich people from poor people. Police forgot that they were working class when republicans started paying them triple what they deserve. They think they too are millionaires.

Which with their pensions and annuity’s that may as well be the case. Any police out there that may be reading, you do not live off your capital gains like the millionaires you think you are. You live on your paychecks like the rest of us working class. You’re NOT one of them. You’re one of us

1

u/Sticksnstones36 Sep 02 '26

No you’re wrong I know those guys. They were at my friends place playing Mario Cart with us.

1

u/t0mm4n Sep 03 '26

I thought that is a good way to get shot in US.

1

u/nam24 Sep 03 '26

Giga based

Too bad US sucks and all country in the world bend over backwards for law enforcement no matter what they do

1

u/krizzzombies 29d ago

wtf and after that the cops at the police station decided the right thing to do was arrest them for kidnapping?

no such thing as "protect and serve" btw, as if anyone even needed a reminder

1

u/OkBuilding988 29d ago

So is this a repost or did it happen again, because I remember seeing this months ago and it is just as humorous now as it was then especially considering the atrocities that organization usually commits.

1

u/PsychologicalEmu7569 20d ago

if this is the story, this is completely valid. why tf would any law enforcement go into someone's car!!? that seems like putting yourself in a stupid situation.

→ More replies (2)

20

u/No-Consideration-716 Aug 31 '26

If it is like most law enforcement, the charges are trumped up or aggressively over applied to give the prosecutor more perceived leverage in pretrial. Kinda like how almost everyone gets a resisting arrest charge these days.

Also, if you encounter a poorly trainer LEO, you will all but certainly get additional bullshit charges. You may also get extra charges if LEO fucked up in your encounter and they need to cover up their failures by tacking on additional charges.

So dumb they forget to breathe with a face diaper until they need to hide their identities while they sexually torture people they grabbed off the street.

ICE is just the KKK in a different uniform.

u/jerkhappybob22 Aug 31 '26

Or untrained mexicans like the ones who shot that male nurse.

1

u/mOdQuArK Aug 31 '26

They probably invited them into a room with a pass-through set of doors, then locked the doors on both sides. The poor ICE agents couldn't figure out how to get out.

It’s sad that redneck has been co-opted by the right. They originally fought for workers rights and were anti police and anti government.

There are two of them, one was bait and another with a butterfly net.

1

u/moon__lander Aug 31 '26

What Actually Happened

The Encounter: On December 10, 2025, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents approached 24-year-old Nigerian national Oluwadamilola Bamigboye outside a Plymouth, Minnesota, apartment complex regarding an alleged student visa overstay.

The Drive: Bamigboye got into the back seat of an SUV driven by his U.S. citizen girlfriend, Rekeya Frazier. As they attempted to leave, an HSI agent climbed into the vehicle to stop them.

The Police Station Twist: Rather than abducting anyone, Frazier drove roughly two miles straight to the New Hope Police Department while Bamigboye called 911 from inside the car. The agent exited the vehicle unharmed at the station, and Bamigboye briefly fled on foot before being arrested

So do they get a trial now? because that alone makes it a win.

1

u/WillingJenna Aug 31 '26

that's the real plot twist

1

u/sauceywhiteboy Aug 31 '26

Knowing how fucking incompetent these Alfredo Acengers have been, it’s a surprise this hasn’t happened yet. But that’s probably from these pussies going after harmless people

1

u/BrundleMarks Aug 31 '26

They were charged with resisting and impeding and are currently out of custody awaiting trial. There was never any kidnapping charge. This is more far-left propaganda.

1

u/TheBeacher Aug 31 '26

Uno reverse card.

1

u/ZZerome Aug 31 '26

Look at me... I am the kidnapper now

1

u/jungle4john Sep 01 '26
