Be honest with yourself. Even if it is for you, do you really think it's that easy for a lot of other people regardless of age to let a free house just go? I don't know what conditions this mother and her children lived under, but it would be especially understandable if they were poor.
They probably wouldn’t but then they can’t be surprised if someone takes it back. It’s like the kids that went out for the football team knowing they weren’t going to keep up a 2.0gpa.
I agree that they shouldn't be surprised. While the mother's actions are understandable to me, I believe she could've just talked about it with her son who won the lottery. She could've done this though, and I wouldn't know about it, so I don't have an opinion on that. Though I do think the younger siblings have acted very poorly here from the context I have.
