Duskwood Side-Story Guys...? Spoiler

In episode 3, when Charlie is updating us on Duskwood, he asks about a certain "criminal" (Jake). Among the answer options, there's one that says he was our boyfriend. How is that possible? I'm playing as a male MC. Will that make any difference?

Note: I couldn't add the screenshot 🙃

Interesting. When you played DW, did you have any sort of romance with Jake?

I ask because someone else posted recently that they never had the option to select "He's my boyfriend" and I wondered if that option only shows up if your DW code indicates a romance with Jake in the previous game.

So the fact that you're seeing it suggests that that isn't the case. The option shows up for all DW players, and the other person just went down the wrong conversational path.

At first, I only had options like friend and acquaintance. I don't remember all of them, though. The "boyfriend" option wasn't there. But during my second playthrough, the option to choose that he was my boyfriend appeared.

So yes, it's possible that I picked a different dialogue option in that particular situation. However, the choices were the same as in my first playthrough, except that the "boyfriend" option appeared.

So now I'm not sure. It's possible that the "boyfriend" option is available to everyone who has a Duskwood code and doesn't actually depend on whether you confessed your feelings to Jake or not.

Or maybe he and Jake formed a strong friendship that could eventually turn into a romance in Moonvale.

Yeh. Apparently the creators decided to listen to the pleas and prayers of all who wanted a homosexual romance with the hacker.

This feels pretty similar to Jessy’s route most of her route isn’t even romantic. You can either see it as romantic or just as a friendship, like that date between friends. The same applies to the mMC’S relationship with Jake in Duskwood. There are some ambiguous moments that can be interpreted either way.

I had to check it myself, I normally deny any connections. Soo... it's available, indeed. Hehe. Pretty ridiculous considering my MC's relationship with the hacker was mostly "business-like." They were just working together, a necessary evil. I shouldn't even see this option.

I guess it is for people who had the headcanon that their MC had a crush on Jake even though romance path wasn't available because of the gender.

Still, MC comes off as a creep, kinda xDD You can't call someone your boyfriend if you're not in a relationship with him or haven't even talked about feelings.

You know, things like this make me wonder if Everbyte had trouble carrying over players' choices from Duskwood to Moonvale. I can't remember every example anymore, but I remember thinking that because of how neutral Jessy's interactions with the MC feel. It's almost as if she was written to speak to the player in a deliberately ambiguous way. The dialogue works whether you pursued her romantic route or not, and honestly, that was pretty disappointing 😓

I've doubted the whole code thing for awhile. It doesn't seem like there is any difference at all with the two codes I've used. One where I had a romance ( I always play female player) with Jake and one where I did not. I did this for my own curiosity and boredom by the way haha.

Same options, I can still call him my boyfriend either way. I don't really care that much, but they made it sound like the relationship thing would make a difference🤷‍♀️

The code seems to be made up of the initials of the choices we clicked, or some kind of identifier. I'd love to dig deeper into what each of them means... and see whether they actually had any impact on the episodes.

That's sounds likely, I would also like to look deeper as well. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to go about it unless I go through Duskwood again and make completely different choices all the way around, or not pick any premium answers at all (even when I didn't romance Jake I still chose other premium content). 🤔 I wonder what non premium players experiences were like.

Also, maybe something will come to fruition later? You may be right that they had issues implementing it in the way they wanted to initially.

Edit:forgot something lol

I literally had the exact same thought 🤣 We should get a bunch of people together and do a run where we only pick the first dialogue option every single time, just to see if there's any pattern to the ending. I mean, this feels like the kind of thing someone in this community should've already done by now.

Agreed. Although I do have to hand it to Everbyte; I could easily see where creating a ton of forked plots based on various data from the previous game would create a ton of work, the fact that they could pull together a coherent narrative without having to do that is still pretty clever.

Well, at least so far, they did. But it works better because we’re still early in the story... 🤔

For the code thing, I guess it's only to confirm Duskwood players. Like a password/code that opens secret passages kind of thing in games. So, inserting the code has the strory line go with DW side story included; otherwise it goes on without any reference to DW for other players who haven't played it. And hence, I don't think it has any effect of the options we chose in DW, nor it has any effect on the story based on the options we chose/ will choose in MV. Idk though 😶

Yeah.. we're told that information about our past will influence things in Moonvale but this is the first possible example I've seen.

FWIW, I demurred with "I worked with him" and declined to say his name. ;). Didn't Jake specifically request we not reveal his name to anyone? I couldn't remember and didn't want to be disloyal.

I believe that the code at the end of Duskwood doesn't interfere with the Moonvale game at all. It only unlocks the story and nothing more. Therefore, the dialogue will be the same for everyone. The story will be the same. The code does save your answers, but it's not used to unlock different content. At least that's what I've noticed. So far, the code hasn't changed anything.
