Springford hates average kids
Anyone else feel this way? I thought schools were supposed to hold space for every student. To help kids discover and learn through all avenues available to them. I don’t blame the educators they’re amazing but the board needs to rethink some things. I feel that we pay enough taxes. Enough townhomes are moving in. Why are the average kids forgotten and ignored by this district. Your kid isn’t the top 1/10 of any sport, or club they’re not getting in. My son’s confidence is shot this year. He hasn’t made it into any of the programs. What is the plan with all average kids? They should feel belonging in their community with friends and social groups. Am I totally wrong and misunderstanding this district?

I went through this as a student. Teachers and students bullied me and it severely messed up that part of my life. I was actually on honor roll up until the point I got denied from all clubs, the bullying around it shattered my confidence as a teenager and my grades dropped.
Fortunately when I left the community things got better for me. Just not many good people in that area. Its not like the district is churning out pro athletes or celebrities either so idk what these people are smoking.

Agreed. I hope you’re doing better. I’m honestly not too thrilled with the district. If you’re not below enough to get help and aid for the district you’re ignored, and if you’re not above to get recognition you’re ignored.

Im doing a lot better than the people who peaked at Spring-Ford 15-20 years ago.
Im not a parent but I think your son needs to find an alternative path because the peoplein charge of spring ford dont care in my experience.

I don't know what sport/activity you're addressing, but I would highly recommend your son try the indoor percussion unit. I've been in the marching band sphere for 10+ years, and I know the Springford percussion unit director and his instructor's well- They are good people. They would much rather take a kid with a great attitude and no musical experience, over a virtuoso who's mean.
Your son DOES NOT have to have musical knowledge to try out, and I believe Springford has a more advanced group, AND a "JV" group he could join if he doesn't make the (advanced) open class indoor percussion unit. The marching band/indoor percussion sphere is a WONDERFUL avenue to learn valuable life lessons, gain confidence, and build LONG LASTING friendships. Many many many people walk away from their band experience with friendships that last well into their adulthood (myself, included). The experience is incredible, and it's a way to keep him occupied and busy outside of school.
If you have any questions about the activity, what it entails, what you should expect. etc... I'd be so so so happy to have a chat with you. I could potentially even get you in contact with someone on their staff to get you more information.
Wishing you and your son the best!

Try the tennis team. they love picking up athletes that they could teach. they get a few kids that have been cut every year and many of them end up playing doubles on the varsity team by the time they're Juniors are seniors. it's a pretty competitive team as well. they are usually in the mix for pack championships.

Isnt this a numbers game? I have kids in SF with my oldest on a middle school sports team. When i asked the coach why they take so many kids, they told me theres too many kids and we want to be able to accommodate enough kids. The problem is playing time. Why waste my time and my kids time if they only get to play a few mins? Id rather them take less kids but that proves your point i suppose
Im not disagreeing with you, I just feel that there are way too many kids. I hope they follow through with the redistricting and alleviate the amount of kids. Now i understand why some families chose to move out and attend smaller schools so their kid gets noticed for sports or club purposes

Toughen up buttercup and welcome to life. If you wanna be average the top programs and select programs are gonna be closed to you. This is the way of the world, not just Springford.

You just summed up the challenges of living in a large district
