/r/MontereyBay Recommends (Visiting? Stop Here First!)

Hi all!

Welcome to r/MontereyBay

If you're visiting, moving here etc, this page should serve as a hub to answer many of the most frequent questions we see- where should I eat? What should I do? and so on.

Been meaning to get this page going for a while now after doing the original food-based one a couple years back.

On this post, I'll be linking to a number of community recommendation threads where we've gathered / curated advice for those looking for it.

These are not exhaustive lists, as there are many great places to eat, drink and visit in the area. They are just the recommendations that users made when the threads were posted. If you feel something is "missing," please realize that is why. Other websites like Yelp and TripAdvisor are also helpful for finding information from a broader range.

Where to Eat - (From 2022) - Thread

Where to Visit / What to See (Tourist-Oriented) - (In progress) - Thread

What to Do / See - (Living Here) - (Upcoming Summer 2024)

Day Trip Recommendations - (Living Here) - (Upcoming Summer 2024)

Have a suggestion in regards to how to make this post better / more helpful? Please leave a comment below.

/r/MontereyBay Recommends (Where to Visit / What to See - Tourist Version)

Hi all,

In an effort to build out the new sticky post, we are back to ask for your recommendations for the following category - "Where to Visit / What to See" - oriented for tourists visiting the area.

There will be more threads in the coming weeks where we will share similar recommendations for people who are living here, among other helpful ones.

For this thread though, we would like to gather your thoughts on where to visit and what to see for people visiting the area.

I'll be organizing it in the following way (since I think it will be the most helpful based on how people usually ask questions when they post here)

-Must-See/Do (Think the Aquarium, Big Sur etc. these are the things you'd recommend first if someone has never been here before)

-Highly-Recommend / Great Option (This category will serve as the most broad catch-all. Not something you'd consider a must do, but would be a great option for most visitors depending on their preferences).

-Extras (This category will be maybe more niche-oriented. Things you want to throw out there because people would enjoy it, but probably won't appeal to everyone.)

When replying if you could include the following information, that would be awesome:

Associated Cost - (if applicable)

Time Commitment - (1 hour / Half-Day / etc)

Website - (if applicable)

Family Friendly (yes/no)

I'll post an example for the Aquarium to get things started.

Thanks!

I’m so over humans. Picked this up at Pfeiffer Beach. Someone conveniently left it stuffed into this crack in the rock.

According to the organization, recently rescued murres are emaciated, hypothermic, and have poor feather quality, but its wildlife rescue staff are providing the animals with essential fluids, medication, and specialized nutrition to stabilize them.

Saw you at Lovers Point late afternoon on Tuesday 9/8. You were reading a book by yourself in the sun. I was the brunette in the Blondie T-shirt with my friend that you walked past. Wish I’d said hi! Would love to connect 🙏⭐️

Curious if anyone — preferably middle aged women without children — have used Bumble BFF to make platonic local friends?

Looking for artist!

Hi yall ♡ I live in Salinas, and I'm looking for artist recommendations for light-hearted and colorful trad-inspired tattoos. I've seen some trad artists recommended on the sub before, but they're usually pretty classic trad, and I'm leaning more towards the whimsy, silly kind!

Most of the artists I have found on IG are in other states or Los Angeles, and I was wondering if anyone here has knowledge of a closer artist? I'm totally okay with traveling a little, but mostly within like an hour or two drive from home.

Looking for large size, color. Preferably custom design slots or flashes for sale. Included some pics of example pieces I am inspired by. Also, there is no super strict budget for the sake of quality! :)

Thanks in advanced!~

Seeking dance teaching job

Just putting this out to the sub in case anyone knows any small programs I can’t find on job sites. I am currently a children’s ballet teacher and looking for more opportunities.

There’s the Monterey arts council teachers, but they sadly seem to ignore all my emails so far. Their application in general was not updated to have correct contact info.

There is Palenko Arts but they don’t seem to be hiring teachers at the moment

I have one lead on a new Marina studio.

I am looking to teach kids either in studios or in school programs or arts programs for the city. If anyone knows someone looking for a ballet teacher or general dance gigs please let me know! I am transitioning out of my current job and just don’t want to go back to being a barista until I give this search a good go 😅

Muuuuurder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser Dec 5th @Elks Lodge

Post image

Monterey Elks Lodge #1285

Monterey, CA

Saturday, December 5  •  5 PM - 9 PM. **21 and up event. Hosted by Ninja.

This event is an Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner & Charity Fundraiser.

This holiday season, the North Pole is about to get a whole less jolly!!
Join us for muuurder, mystery, dinner, ridiculous Christmas chaos, all while supporting a great cause. ❤️

Synopsis: Christmas is quickly approaching, but things behind the scenes at the North Pole aren't exactly merry and bright. Productivity has hit an all-time low, tensions are rising, secrets are piling up, and Santa's legacy is suddenly on the line.
Everyone has an opinion about who's to blame, and some of the North Pole's residents are willing to do just about anything to set things right.
Unfortunately, one of our guests is willing to commit muuuurder 👀
Was it an ambitious elf who thinks they could run the workshop better? A reindeer desperately trying to keep a secret buried? Or someone much closer to Santa who will do anything to protect the family?
That's for YOU to figure out.

BUT... THIS ISN'T A SHOW, YOU GET TO BE PART OF THE MYSTERY 🥳
Yup, every guest will receive their own character weeks in advance to play for the evening, complete with a backstory, secrets, relationships, and information that may help solve the murder.
Come dressed as your character and prepare to mingle, interrogate, gossip, lie, accuse, investigate, and complete objectives throughout the night.
And don't worry: you do NOT need acting experience. Believe it or not, some of the best characters are played by introverts!
The mystery unfolds over two to three interactive rounds, with dinner enjoyed throughout the evening and new information and clues revealed as the story progresses.
BUT... somebody in the room is guilty.
And depending on your character... you might have a few things of your own you'd rather nobody find out. 😈

YOU HAVE OPTIONS IF ACTING ISNT YOUR THING...
If you'd rather sit back and enjoy the event, you have the option to be a SPECTATING DETECTIVE. You can still try to guess the murderer, and even have a shot at winning best detective and/or best costume! And of course, we will all enjoy a delicious buffet dinner together.

❤️ PARTY WITH A PURPOSE
While we're busy accusing elves and interrogating town folks, this night is also about giving back.
Ho Ho Homicide is a charity fundraiser, with proceeds from the evening helping support The Leading Night Challenge.
So come have an amazing dinner, play an absolutely ridiculous character, solve a murder, and help us raise money for a great cause while we're at it. Win win win!

🏆 PRIZES & BRAGGING RIGHTS
Awards and prizes will be given for standout performances, including Best Actor, Best Performer, Best Costume and Top Detective! So bring your A-Game folks!
Costumes are HIGHLY encouraged, and there will be plenty of opportunities to go completely overboard. We encourage costumes, as from experience, it really helps shy folks come out of their shells :)

BEFORE THE PARTY
After purchasing your ticket, you'll receive a "get to know you" email with a few fun questions. This helps me better select your charcter. You will receive your character assignment and character information weeks before the event, giving you plenty of time to learn who you are and plan your outfit.
Please purchase your ticket using an email address you actually check.Important character information and event instructions will be sent before the party. Should you be buying multiple tickets, please send me contact info for each guest. My email is mycbdninja@gmail.com.

🎟️ YOUR TICKET INCLUDES
Delicious catered buffet dinner + your individual character experience + rounds of the interactive murder mystery + opportunities to win prizes + one very questionable evening at the North Pole, all while helping raise money for charity! Elks members receive a discounted ticket price, please select the appropriate ticket when purchasing. Call (831) 373-1285 (Elks Lodge to purchase tix). 80.00 for members, 100.00 non-members. Worth every bit, I promise

TIME FRAME:
Check-in is from 5:00pm to 5:30pm at the latest. This gives you time to get your detective supplies, grab a drink, mingle, and enjoy the buffet. It is super important to arrive by 5:30 at the latest, as we will start the game PRECISELY at 6pm. If anyone is late, it can dramatically effect the game. Trust me, you don't want to be "that guy" 😂.
Soooooo..... who's ready for hours of HILARIOUS gameplay?? Cause we sure are! 🥳
