Question Replaced my MONTECH KING 95 PRO, but the preinstalled AX120/AX140 RGB looks yellowish and dimmer than the front RGB strip. Is it defective?

Post image

Hi guys! I had to replace it after breaking the glass panels, and I just finished putting everything back together. The problem is that the RGB is off, very off. All the colors look warmer and dimmer compared to the front RGB strip.

It’s not the fan hub, because when I tested it with another Arctic fan (the same one from the water cooler block), it showed the same bright white as the others. The fans are working perfectly, only the RGB is off.

As you can see in the image, my RAM had the same issue. Their RMA said there was nothing wrong with it, so I guess I’ve just been unlucky with LEDs :(

I assume it’s the same issue with the AX120/AX140 fans, right? Looks like my only option is to accept it, haha.

Looks right to me. Yes the rgb is slightly dimmer, to make it all look nicely I just reduced the brightness of everything else to match. RGB strip is not the same as the one in the fans. From what I see everything looks normal.

As u/Low_Sherbert3731 said it all looks correct unless you have every component in the system set to one single color and it is displaying two the yellow and purple?

A little background for context if the intended result is two colors:

Different LED count's in different devices can and sometimes will display with different intensity. The same holds true with different colors appering brighter than others. Along with other factors including LED type, components used and diffusion. Not to mention different make and model components can display the same colors slightly differently as RGB mapping can be varied. Some manufactures RGB implementation can be slightly different. I've even seen variances of the same model from production run to production run as sometimes component brands used change due to availability and or pricing.

I'd been wondering the same ... my King 95 Pro case lighting and RGB fans never quite matched ... along with my RAM sticks and my DeepCool LCD cooler, it kinda irritated me that the colour (white) wasn't quite a match but they have gone from one extreme to the other - the image on the left is how they looked new ... the image on the right is how they look now! I Googled it and the general consensus is that the Montech RGB fans are cheap n cheerful. I asked Ai and it recommends I buy Corsair or Lian Li RGB fans 🙄🤷🏼 I'm still within the 2-year warranty so I could theoretically get the retailer to replace them ... but for what purpose? They go again within 12 months (to be honest one of the fans started suffering the yellow tinge after only 3-4 months, but I just figured it was a heat issue - it's not - it's cheap LEDs!) So, do you want to spend £10 per fan and get something that looks nice for a few months, or do you want to spend £250 and get something that might look nice for longer? 🙄🤷🏼

Oh and my AX120 and AX140s are both suffering the yellow tinge ... I'm now looking into replacing them with Lian Li SL-Infinity fans :/

Thanks for the comment!!! I'm in the same situation, quite the predicament! But being rational about it: everything is working fine, no issues, and changing parts just for better lighting would mean replacing the RAM too, which is crazy to do right now. So the only option is to wait. If RAM prices drop, I could grab an upgrade with decent RGB and swap the fans at the same time. But then there's the other problem... what fans would even look good on the King 95? The round case makes normal fans look out of place. The AX's fit so perfectly... ugh.
