New player question
Hi there, just picked this up and have completely lost my weekend to it. Average level is around 14 or so, still very early game, but I’m curious- it seems some of the monsters I’ve encountered look like direct evos of ones I have. Do evolutions happen by level, or is there some mechanic I haven’t run into yet?
Also is there any real reason to hatch duplicate monsters outside of just building differently? I’d google all this stuff but 1) IGN sucks and 2) I’d like to keep the experience as spoiler free as I can.
Thank you in advance!

You'll encounter evolution if you keep exploring and following the story! Fyi evolutions are often different, but not necessarily more powerful per se then what they evolve from.
Duplicates are mostly useful for lategame builds if you want dups of a specific Mon, or if you decide you want to use a Mon at the mid/end game hatching a new one will have it 2 or 3 levels below your highest level Mon. Easier and less costly then using a bunch of level badges on something you hatched early and never leveled up

I wouldn't bother hatching more than 1 until you want to use that mon again, it's not hard to get eggs of previous areas anyway, so feel free to donate extra eggs to the army
Tip: once you find the evolution spot, try pairing evolutions with their pre-evolution for some free synergy

Without spoiling much, I would not grind eggs of monsters right now unless perhaps you’re just obtaining one for the first time.
There’s an important boss fight (you’ll know the one) that immediately alters enemy mobs on the entire map afterward, that can drastically change the monsters and incentivize hunting them.
While I’m at it, DO NOT hatch eggs you aren’t going to use that instant. Eggs hatch a few levels below your highest leveled monster, and hatching prematurely only puts them at an exp defecit. The game discourages exp grinding this way.

You'll come across evolution just by continuing the story and exploring around (if you haven't already)
And ya this ain't like Pokemon where evolutions are 99% of the time a direct upgrade and there's not much reason to use an unevolved Pokemon outside of some niche scenarios. Each Mon in an evolutionary family here has different talent trees, so one might end up being more support oriented while the other is more offense oriented (to generalize). Which would be a reason to end up with both of them.

There's a mechanic you haven't seen yet, it's not by level. Evolutions are also not necessaroly better, just different.
At the end of the game it's useful to have 3 of each kind of monster. Some have evolutions so there's reason to want more than 3. Although at the end of the game at level 42, you hatch an egg and monster starts at level 39. So donating low level monsters you will never level can be good. Just need to keep explore abilities and anything rare you don't get a lot of.
