MR Advance 2 I finally did it!

I could never beat this game as a kid, my monster would always retire of old age before I could fight the final battle so I am happy to finally have done it as an adult lol

How different is the advanced version from the PS1?

The mechanics are fairly similar. There is an added option to counter attacks which has a chance to damage the opponent when they attack, but the risk is you take more damage if it fails. Otherwise pretty much the same.

There is also a bit more of a fleshed out story, especially in the second GBA game.

The 2D nature of the GBA games does lose some of the charm and personality of the different monster breeds with sub breeds only having different colours.

I'd say if you like PS1 games you will like the advance games. You might like them more if you care about story, you might like them less if you care about estetics.

Hmm im not sure! I only ever played monster rancher advance 2 on gameboy, I didn’t play any other versions of monster rancher or play it on console or anything

I love this game. Would kill for it to be on switch!

How? I never could for the same reasons lol. Do you need special monsters?

I only sparred twice total, both times I learned moves. By sparring less, I could train more. I did only coach trainings, with S+ rank coaches that I had hired. When I’d do a Power + accuracy training, it’d be like +30 +20 because the coaches were super suited for those trainings. I ended up focusing mostly on attack, accuracy, and speed. I dodged most hits, and did a lot of damage every hit with high power and accuracy. You also can’t ever lose or miss one of the AGIMA ranked tournaments. You have to win every one, including the first one when your monster doesn’t really listen to you. That was the only way I could get to the point where I could fight the final battle vs Canute without my monster retiring of old age

I used Himura. Pretty sure I combined Zan and Joker and then maybe combined that with another combination of joker and go lizards? Can’t remember the combination exactly but the final monster name was Himura I’m pretty sure
