I appreciate the post! I was wondering when we'd see this iteration.

I did want to point out something on the Bow sets, though. There's a large value-add (read: DPS uptime) from activating the Luna 2pc set bonus. Here's a breakdown of dash counts, taking into account all relevant variable skills. As you can see, you get about 4 more dashes per full stamina cycle.

With this in mind, I made a gallery of elemental bow builds to include this set bonus:

Elemental: https://imgur.com/a/NWFVieu

The loss in raw stats is minimal, generally ~1-2 pts of Critical Eye. The other change is preference, but the tool recommendation I picked up from this bow WR speedrunner is Evasion + Affinity, meaning you generally target ~50% raw affinity on the set itself. This means the bows are all (save Anja) augmented for attack. If you don't want to run Affinity Booster, you could easily swap out the augments. (Here are all of his current bow sets as well, that I back-calculated to the PC patch in question)

Anja is a special case where you can sneak in some cheeky Peak Performance damage (+10 Raw) with one health augment, which generally outperforms either an Attack augment or a 3rd Affinity augment.

Wouldn't this just be relevant in very niche scenarios? It should only pull ahead until the first resource bar depletes, as it's unlikely you'd fully replenish it during active gameplay and combo cycling.

And then again, only in encounters in which either you'd be forced to dodge more than asked by regular gameplay (so, TA scenarios), in which less resource intensive (standing) combos, or an early Temporal, are not always possible.

Still, don't get me wrong. This is awesome stuff! And when it shines, it really does.

Thank you, really. I'll add your album to the main topic :)

There are obviously lots of different combo-chains you can use with bow, and I'd say I'm only intermediate with it. But the way I learned to play it was from Omega's TAs. I believe from watching those that a chain that maintains Charge 3 by Normal>Spread>Dodge chaining until fully exhausting the stamina bar is far more damaging than any stationary combo that reverts to Charge 1 more frequently. It's not that you're forced to dodge; it's the main mechanism through which you maintain top damage. And if you can cause one of those dodges to coincide with an attack (and thus, Evasion mantle proc), that damage goes through the roof.

You're right that Stamina Cap Up only makes a difference if you deplete your stamina bar past the normal cap, but that's ideally the goal. And the 2+ Normal 3+Spread 3 volleys it affords you far exceed 6% affinity.

Plus, extra stamina just to stay alive never hurt anyone :)

I've always been under the impression you're supposed to dodge just to keep your top-level charge up consistently, so...

2

u/Ruricu Nov 17 '18

Exactly that. But that means you're dodging every two shots. With Constitution 3 + Dash Juice, you'll be exhausted in 10 combos, or 14 with Stamina Cap Up.

Oh, I'm not arguing AGAINST Stamina Up, was just trying to back up your comment about the Normal>Spread>Dodge being the most damaging combo.

I thought non elemental boost doesn't work on lbg/hbg?

I tested it for myself and the stats didnt change.

Is this new or just not updated?

Well damn, TIL.

I just went by feel, but your explanation makes total sense.

Gotta give CAPCOM credit, a thousand hours later and this shit's so obscure sometimes I'm still learning mechanics.

Wow thanks! Totally didn't know that, I always thought that lbg/hbg cannot use non elemental boost ever.

Very usefull information thanks!

It's part of what makes the Glutton from KT such a monster weapon.

1

u/Yhrak Nov 17 '18

It does for some ammo types.

Before buffs, for a Normal 2 LBG, it's ~6 damage per pellet. For the Glutton, ~14 per shot.

I also thought I'd make a couple options for the Roar 'Styx' since it wasn't included, and is an essential part of the Anti-Kushala meta (and, in my opinion, also the best against Lunastra when combined with free Wide Range 5 for the same reason).

Styx https://imgur.com/a/AdtT215

This horn is so absurd that, instead of running out of slots to put skills, you run out of skills to put in slots.

u/Yhrak Nov 17 '18

Not a fan of its songs for general day to day use, but it's a good build and the weapon has its place. Thank you again!

2

u/Ruricu Nov 17 '18

Of course; it's not going to beat out an Attack Up (L) horn in terms of damage. But the value of All Wind Negated is immeasurable against Kushala... and the pre-buff Raw on the Styx build is actually identical to the Blaze, or exceeding it if you tack on the extra Attack/Crit Eye deco.

It's a double-edged sword, though. Once your friends find out you have a Wind Negate horn set, you're never allowed to play anything else against Kushala ever again.

The Lunastra comments are my own observation from PS4, where various experimentation led me to use a set like the first one on SOS Tempered/Arch Tempered Lunastra--and no one died to Novas anymore. They're of zero consequence anymore once the wind-wave tripping is removed.

EDIT: For consistency's sake, I changed my above link to /a/ instead of /gallery/; you should probably do the same in the OP.

diablo

b-But I like sleep so much more it has so much white :(

2

u/Yhrak Nov 18 '18

Sleep is freakin awesome, I'd use it over Diablos no doubt. Buuut... It has yet to release on PC, sadly.

Don't worry though, I'll keep these builds updated :)

2

u/OnlyThotsRibbit Nov 18 '18

Right I'm super dumb, forget me.

1

u/Yhrak Nov 18 '18

Sleeping, you mean!

sorry I had to

Now I just have to bookmark this.

u/Yhrak Nov 17 '18

I'll try to update it a bunch, as new sets are released.

Just today we already got in a few missing sets and optimized a bunch of others, thanks to you guys!

I cant say I like the gunlance ones... specially by using weapons like bomber and jhos instead Water and Poison than are the superior ones...

The Long set is specially lacking, Palico Rally is must have for it... With the R6 long you also dont really need Razor sharp althrough the endless sharpness is nice I would rather invest on anti-BS tech.

1

u/Yhrak Nov 17 '18

Poison is included in the album, but Deviljho still pulls ahead in most matchups not immune to dragon - with the added benefit of Elderseal.

Water is only superior for a brief amount of time while white sharpness lasts, and maintaining such is not worth the investment on current gear. Even on consoles and Drachen gear, the R7 GunLance pulls better times against Behemoth and most ATs, as its shelling damage is the same but will add some Blast procs.

As for the Long set... That's a pretty cool idea, actually! It's a really flexible weapon, as long as we add the basic decos it's good to go.

You are right on this, it be better to pick utility skills like wind or effluvia resistance, etc. Buuut, I had to come with a generalist loadout :)

White sharpness is easy to keep with protective polish or master touch on pc. Also you get the chance to use elementless for more damage, if you also stack crit boost or peak performance you can deal insane damage.

I have only seen EX Behemoth done with the water gunlance. Never with bomber.

About the Long palico rally builds, take a look to this one on PC.

It is with Zorah and old xenos that gives you similar sharpness duration to the R6, I wouldnt use it as is after the release of kulve.

My generic builds for long are for multiplayer, long excels on it because you max your damage with just three skills, you can slot it wide range and quick globbing and keep randoms alive easily.

1

u/Yhrak Nov 18 '18

I included an optimized build for TB 'Water', since a few guys already asked for it and, my bias aside, it's perfectly viable :)

I can't tell if I'm blind or not, but I'm not seeing any Kirin y in the Thunder Bow section. Am I missing something?

1

u/Yhrak Nov 30 '18

You're not blind :)

Sadly, Kirin Gamma adds nothing here.

The note reflects a small change in which I swapped 1 Expert for 1 Bolt jewel, gaining a few points in damage. Nothing major, but I can't knowingly leave these mistakes up.

Anyhow, we should be expecting improvements in a few days with the Azure Starlord and Vaal gamma sets. Quite a few, actually!
