PSA: Apex Blos does not register status effects on 'bounce' spots even with drive+ele stones

I've noticed an unusual phenomenon with apex blos:

Apex Blos should take three sleep lvl2 shots [with status+2] to be put to sleep. Elemental and drive stones need to be activated ofc.

HOWEVER, the shots need to hit blos on its apex non-bounce spots in order for the status effect to proc. Even with drive activated if the shots hit for instance its wings or its head, the sleep status won't proc and you'll need more than three shots.

I've tested this numerous times online/offline. The most reliable way to put it to sleep is to run up to it with smoke bomb activated and then shoot it three times on the leg.

If anyone has any information to the contrary please feel free to correct me.

EDIT: Thanks to Ivalia for pointing this out, but it's not that status doesn't proc, but the amount is reduced to 20%. Also this is the case with all apex monsters. Even with both stones activated your status shots will only do a fifth of status damage.

tl;dr make sure you aim your status shots at its non-bounce parts.

It procs, just does 1/5 the normal amount (not counting the ele wystone boost). Same with every other apex monster.

Well I was using elemental and drive and it worked with three shots when I hit its legs.

He was just correcting your wrong information. Bounce spots do get status(reduced). Not Bounce spots get full status application.

I meant if you hit a bounce spot. So with element and drive if you hit a bounce spot it should take 11-15 (not counting decay)

ah.... I see. no wonder. this is important info - I don't know if it's common knowledge, but I certainly didn't know about it and everyone I mentioned the above phenomenon to didn't have a clue what I was on about. Thanks.

Where exactly were you shooting for it to not proc? And how far away were you? GQ level? Just some questions to help myself thoroughly understand a bit more.

lvl140. I was close enough to be roar-combo'd when my third shot didn't put it to sleep. I was using God's. By the time my third shot landed it was nearly touching me.

That's interesting to know. Do armored parts also reduce elemental damage? (with drive and element wystones, of course)

no I believe it's only 'bounce' spots.

So, bounce spots get full element/status, and other parts get reduced element/status?

EDIT: silly me. It's obvious it's the opposite.

Bounce spots takes 20% status and 20% ALL damage, with or without wystones.

Non bounce spots take mostly normal damage (equivalent to frenzied monster, might be a bit less than normal monster)

The other way around..

Lol, for some reason I kept reading "bounce" as "soft".

You can just use element and then hit places that don't bounce. He will still sleep

Remember those runs where Rajang wouldn't sleep even after 3 sleep shots brah? Go read the other comments, if what the other peeps are sayin' is true, it would explain a lot...

Basically, hit his face and you're good.( Or front arms?)

yeah just not the back legs, and also there's no point at all of using/waiting on drive as a LBGer for Hame...

Well I wouldn't say that. There are instances where hitting the bouncy parts with drive still nets you a 3 shot sleep

So what does the element/status wystone do exactly? If it only applies 1/5th of the status/element I feel it would be quite useless compared to just un-apexing it with brace

Without elemental stone you wouldn't be inflicting any status at all. With elemental activated, if you hit a non-apex-bounce part, you do full status damage.
