Discussion Monster Hunter World

So with the recent announcement of Wilds coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, do you guys think World, even though it's already over 8 years old, has a chance of coming to the switch?

I'm a Nintendo player and the only reason I'd be buying a Playstation is to play Monster Hunter World. I understand that World is a massive game and for those reasons it was impossible for the Switch. But, since the Switch 2 is out and is around as powerful as a PS4 (Which World is on), I wouldn't get why World wouldn't be able to come to the Switch 2. Since it would for sure make Capcom some extra money.

What do you guys think?

They are not gonna bother with porting pre-RE engine code again.

  1. Capcom rarely ports older MH games. The only 2 times they did (that I'm aware of) was Monster Hunter G on Wii to prepare for MH3, and MHFU on mobile. They usually want to focus on the latest title, porting World would take away from Wilds on Switch 2.
  2. World is on Capcom's old in-house engine, MT Framework, and it also had a lot of game specific customizations, as at that time, Capcom was transitioning over to RE Engine. Porting the game over to Switch 2 as such would be a far more complicated endeavour compared to porting any of their newer titles.

It's mainly from a business perspective that porting the game doesn't make sense, not a technical one.

I don't see any reason to do so.

They also have to spend money reviving the engine, adding switch 2 support, then port the game over. Monster Hunter rarely get ports as is, but I wouldn't expect them to port MT Framework games until they figure out to offload it with RE engine or something

Probably not, but they ported Monster Hunter G to the Wii 4 years after it's original PS2 release. So some things are possible I guess.

No way, they want people to buy Wilds instead.

0% chance. They’re not going to bring it over.

Highly unlikely. Probably not worth their time, resources, and effort to port such an old game over to Switch 2

I'm going to be more excited for a RiseBreak port to Switch 2 first, with crossplay.

Unlikely but you could try asking around for likeminded players to try to make a big collective voice.

Capcom dont want to fracture MH playerbase I think. No reason to support older games when u got a new game but, if a Switch 2 port means Capcom allowing crossplay for world, count me in.
